Biography[]
"Future Guy" was a mysterious figure from the 28th century who was involved in the Temporal Cold War. Unable to physically travel through time and only able to appear as a shadowy figure to communicate, he recruited the Suliban Cabal to be his agents in the 22nd century, providing them with genetic enhancements as payment for their assistance. He had Suliban leader Silik manipulate the Klingon Empire in an attempt to drive them to civil war. A group of renegade Suliban provided evidence of this to a Klingon named Klaang and despite the efforts of Silik and Future Guy, the newly-launched Enterprise was able to deliver Klaang and his evidence to the High Council.
As punishment for this failure, Future Guy had some of Silik's enhancements removed. He had Silik board Enterprise again since he had learned one of their crew, Daniels, was a 31st century time agent working undercover. Silik retrieved a device containing vital information from Daniels' quarters but was forced to flee without it following an encounter with Captain Archer. Future Guy later had Silik wipe out a mining colony in a way that meant Enterprise would believe they were to blame. This nearly led to Enterprise's mission being cancelled, but Future Guy had apparently miscalculated, since his attempt to have Silik abduct Archer, and Daniels' subsequent attempt to save him by bringing him to the future, led to history being radically altered and Silik losing contact with his benefactor until the timeline was restored.
When a rival faction, the Sphere-Builders, made an attempt to alter history by manipulating the Xindi into destroying Earth, Future Guy contacted Enterprise following the Xindi's initial attack on Earth and spoke to Archer for the first time, explaining the situation and convincing him to enter the Delphic Expanse to stop the Xindi. His fate after the Temporal War was averted is unknown.
Trivia[]
The character was initially referred to as "Humanoid Figure" in behind the scenes documents. Fans nicknamed him "Future Guy", with the term becoming so widespread that the production team began using it themselves.
The character's true identity is never revealed. The production team have claimed they never decided themselves whilst also claiming that he was intended to be a Romulan or a future version of Jonathan Archer (or, less seriously, JJ Abrams). The Department of Temporal Investigations novels name him as Jamran Harnoth.
