At 9-years-old (8-years-old before Season 7), Lucy is the fifth youngest of the Loud siblings and the eldest of the younger sisters. She has a habit of popping up and scaring people, a running gag in the series. Lucy attends the fourth grade (third grade in Seasons 1–4) at Royal Woods Elementary School.
In "Time Trap!", Lucy and her siblings altered history, causing their parents to decide not to have any kids in the future. As a result, Lucy got deleted out of existence, although she returned when Lisa and Lily prevented this timeline alteration.
Early life[]
When Lucy was a baby, she didn't cry very often. She also had a habit of staring eerily at her family, which led to her parents growing her bangs over her eyes.[8] When she was one, she buried Geo III in the yard, which was described by her parents as "having trouble letting go".[9] She first began to actually plan out funerals at the age of two.[10] She also became a big sister when the twins were born. When Lucy was four-years-old, she enjoyed sleeping upside down.[11] Up until her ninth birthday, Lucy disliked celebrating her birthdays due to her family's traditions. On her eighth birthday, Lucy was given ghost-shaped pancakes for breakfast, was joined by Lincoln dressed as a Vampire to watch Vampires of Melancholia with her and was given a jar full of spiders from Lana.[12]

Lucy is a gloomy, cynical, deadpan, and mysterious goth girl who is almost always seen with a stoic frown. She is interested in occultism, poetry, and the works of Gothic authors. She has an uncanny ability to seemingly teleport to different places, which often spooks her siblings, especially Lincoln. Some of her siblings refer her as a "spooky" girl. She frequently uses words to describe her actions, such as saying the word "Sigh" instead of actually sighing. Occasionally, she feels left out that nobody listens to her and everyone thinks she is weird (despite their obvious quirks), however this is likely not the reason for her gloominess, because "The Whole Picture", "The Crying Dame", and "Not a Loud" prove that Lucy frowned and wore black even as a baby. She also generally has no problem with being seen as weird because she uses the word "normie" in a derogatory way.
Lucy usually speaks very monotonously, very rarely showing any emotion within her voice with few exceptions. Despite that, there are some times when Lucy does show prominent emotions.
Though typically rather gloomy, she is shown to be happy and act accordingly on several occasions. She squeals and giggles in "Heavy Meddle", along with her sisters, upon learning of Lincoln's romantic situation. Also in some other episodes she can be seen smiling from time to time (as opposed to her usual smirking), like in "It's a Loud, Loud, Loud, Loud, House", where she is joyfully celebrating the money finding with her other siblings, and in "In Tents Debate", where she is happy that she gets the option to go to Aloha Beach. She is also shown to be rather compassionate, as she shows sympathy for Lincoln's dilemmas, and always shows her appreciation for his kindness.
In "Sleuth or Consequences", it is revealed that she was responsible for clogging the toilet with her book Princess Pony, stating that even she needs "a break from the darkness" once in a while. Despite her stoic attitude, she seems to enjoy being with her siblings, and sometimes departs from darkness to have fun with them.
Lucy normally retains her monotonous demeanor when angered, but she has been shown to openly express anger (namely by growling) in "Spell It Out" when her siblings walk all over her. Also, despite her tendency to scare others, she too gets frightened by sudden appearances of others, as shown in "Back in Black", "Insta-gran", and "The Loud Cloud", as well as a flashback in "Bye Bye Birthday". Additionally, despite her usual reputation against it, she is shown crying in "The Green House", "Fed Up", “Pets Peeved”, “Fandom Pains”, and "Bye Bye Birthday".
In "A Grave Mistake", Lucy was revealed to be determined and never gives up as she wanted to become the president of Morticians Club. After her actions at Ricky the Rooster's funeral causes the audience disgust, she becomes more acceptable and lets Haiku take her place along with her. In "She's All Bat", Lucy tries many ideas to get Lola to leave the Morticians Club even going as far as forging the school club policy.
Lucy Loud loves all things spooky and dark. She can usually be found reciting her moody poetry or sharing her morbid point of view. If you haven't seen Lucy in a while, don't worry... she has a knack of mysteriously appearing when you least expect it!

Appearance[]
Lucy is slightly taller than Lana and Lola, but shorter than Lincoln.
She has very pale gray skin and black hair long enough that her bangs cover her eyes.
She wears a black dress on top of a black and white striped tank top, alongside likewise black and white striped sleeves and stockings, and black shoes.
Her nightwear is a white t-shirt and black-and-white striped pajama pants. Her swimwear consists of a striped swimming dress with black leggings.
In the alternate dimension where the sisters are boys, Lucy's counterpart is a male goth named Lars. Like Lucy, he shares the same room with Lynn but also shares with Lincoln (as Lincoln's original bedroom is still a closet), and instead of a bed, he sleeps in a coffin. Unlike Lucy, however, Lars is disrespectful towards Lincoln, obnoxious and aggressive, as shown when he punches the latter on his head after he accidentally scratches his coffin bed after getting a rude awakening.
Eight of Spades[]

In the minicomic Deuces Wild!, Lucy dons the superheroine alter ego, the Eight of Spades, who is also one of Ace Savvy's sidekicks. She uses a shovel with a spade-shaped head. In the comic, she is summoned by Savvy (played by Lincoln) alongside the rest of Savvy's deck (played by the rest of her sisters) to help him and One-Eyed Jack (played by Clyde) to defeat the gas monster. After they defeat it, they prepared to fight against a garbage monster. (In reality, all Lucy and her siblings were doing was changing Lily's diaper and taking out the trash.)
The Eight of Spades made another appearance in the comic Lincoln wrote in "Pulp Friction". In this appearance, she dug a hole in which two thugs were thrown into by The Night Club's music. This is also the episode where Lincoln came up with the Eight of Spades.
In "Kings of the Con", Lucy shows up at the convention dressed as the Eight of Spades, impressing everybody there along with her sisters.
Coincidentally, her alter-ego name also represents her age. It comes from the spade suit in a deck of cards and the fact that Lucy digs graves with a spade. She wears a dark grey cloak, long black gloves, black boots, and a dress and tights like Lucy's usual ones.
Bella is one of the rabbit sisters and a rabbit version of Lucy. She appears in "White Hare", and is the only rabbit who isn't white.
Lucinda[]
Lucinda is a version of Lucy she imagines in "No End in Bite". When Lynn told Lucy to imagine an ending for her book after the last page was torn out, Lucy imagined herself as a stowaway on the pirate ship, named Lucinda.
Lucinda stowed away on the pirate ship and was mistaken for a ghost by one of the pirates. She then locked said pirate into a coffin and climbed into the crow's nest, sicced Fangs on the other pirates, and used the sail to protect Edwin from the sun. Afterwards, Edwin prepared to turn Lucinda into a vampire as a reward, but then the fantasy was interrupted.
Lucinda looks exactly like Lucy, but wears a black ball dress with a red trim, and a black necklace with a red gem.
Dominic Dunkster[]
Dominic Dunkster is Lucy's alter-ego in the story the children made up in "A Dark and Story Night".
Like Lucy, Dominic has black hair and a white body. Unlike Lucy, he is male, a ghost, good at basketball, and has a blue 5 on his body. He is said to be the ghost of a famous basketball player.
In the story, Tricksy (Lynn's alter-ego) agreed to give the protagonists of the story the crystal shards she was using on her shoes if they beat her at basketball, so the protagonists summoned Dominic to help them win the game.
The Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come[]
In "A Flipmas Carol", Flip dreamt that Lucy appeared to him as the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come (who refers to herself as the "Ghost of Christmas Future"), who resembled a cross between Lucy and a specter.
He tried to flee, but she appeared in his van. Then, she showed him an alternate future, in which his customers stopped going to his store due to his scams, he became penniless, his store became a wreck, and he eventually died from an accident in his store and no one came to his funeral.
Lucy Beast Head[]
In 10 Headed Beast, she and the rest of the sisters are represented as a hydra.

Trivia[]
Her name can be taken to mean "light", which is ironic because she is a dark goth. It can also mean "of light complexion", which she does have.[13]
She shares a first name with Lucy Westenra from the novel Dracula. This is coincidental since she also likes vampire-related stuff.
She and Lynn are roommates with the biggest age gap, five years apart.
This is because they are the only roommates who are not consecutive children, respectively the seventh and the fifth, with Lincoln being the sixth.
According to Rita and Lynn Sr. in the episode, "The Crying Dame", the reason why Lucy's hair conceals her eyes is because they were uncomfortable with her staring at them mindlessly, and let her grow her hair out, under the assumption that she will not stare at them anymore. However, Lucy claims she can still see perfectly fine through her hair, which petrifies her parents.
Before that, her parents said that she is the only Loud who did not cry often when she was a baby.
In the pilot and "Left in the Dark", her hair was shaped differently than it is in the series. She was also given black gloves in development, but they were removed in the final production.
Lucy's name came from creator Chris Savino's wife's plans for a name in case they had more daughters, but it was never used as they later had three sons.
A running gag of the series is that Lucy always appears suddenly, scaring her siblings or other people.
As shown in "Left in the Dark" and "Changing the Baby", she can scare her sisters out of their wits just by saying "boo" to them. So far, she has done this to Leni, Lynn, and Lisa.
She sits in the vents to think for writing her poems.
The back corner in the attic used to be her "secret dark place", but now it is the basement.[16]
When Lucy grows up, she wants to be an "undertaker by day, vampire by night".
According to episode 20 of the Nick Animation podcast, Lucy's favorite movie is Edward Scissorhands.[29]
In "The Whole Picture", Lucy is shown in her goth attire as a baby which means that she has been goth for most of her life, and she is not just going through a phase.
However, she is shown singing in "Out on a Limo", "11 Louds a Leapin'", "The Crying Dame", and "Write and Wrong", the second and third instances being solely for the purposes of cheering somebody up. In "Really Loud Music", she is shown reciting what she calls a "song", but it more closely resembles a poem, and it was only a hallucination experienced by Luna. She also sings in "Guessing Games", but only as part of a challenge.
Up until "Sand Hassles", Lucy did not enjoy the beach due to the heat and brightness of the sun, the sand, and having to play sports. While she did want to go to the beach in "In Tents Debate", that was only because of the shark attacks, and Luna expressed surprise that she wanted to go.
In the comic "It's Just a Phase", it is revealed that at age one, she had trouble letting go of the past and buried Geo III in the yard.
In "Sleuth or Consequences", she gives Lincoln a comic she herself drew and composed, possibly suggesting she also reads comics (though this could just be indicative of her drawing and creative writing skills).
Unlike her younger siblings, her neck is visible.
She is the only character to not smile in the Listen Out Loud intro.
Until they were established to exist in "Ghosted!", Lucy was Lincoln's only sister to believe in ghosts.[37]
She is shown to have a high tolerance for low temperatures. In "Snow Bored", she enjoys lying in the snow and pretending to be a corpse, and in "She's All Bat", she is the only Morticians Club member not to find the seats too cold. An implied instance of this is when she throws her blanket into the donation box in "Heart and Soul".
Despite this, she is not immune to hypothermia.[38]
She enjoys getting to "shine" as leader of the Morticians Club.[39]
Interestingly, whenever Lucy hangs upside down, her bangs stay in place.
She has occasionally told Lincoln, "I have no brother" when she's angry with him.[40]
She apparently secretly likes pink.[41] However, when her siblings painted the bathroom pink, she expressed disdain for it even when alone[42], indicating that she only likes pink in moderation and still dislikes large amounts of it.
She sometimes hunts ghosts[43] but refrains from hunting ghosts she knows personally.[44]
She can play the pipe organ[45] and the electric guitar[46][47] skillfully.
Lucy and Lincoln are the only Loud siblings to not have blonde or brown hair like the rest of their sisters.
When she gets homesick, she hugs a pillow for comfort.[48]
