Episode Information

"Waking History" is the first episode of the seventh season, the two-hundred-ninety-sixth episode, and the seventh-season premiere of The Loud House.

Plot[]

Eager to uncover secrets from the past, Lisa uses her technology to wake up a frozen caveman.

Synopsis[]

At the Loud House, Lisa is trying to get a good broadcast signal so she can catch The Dream Boat. After instructing Todd, who is controlling the satellite dish, to get into a certain pose, they manage to find a signal, but a squirrel suddenly arrives and distracts Todd, causing the TV to change to the news. On the news, Katherine Mulligan announces the construction of a new fusion restaurant named Guten Morgen Vietnam, and then introduces Dr. Alvarez, who reveals that, while doing some archaeological digging on the construction site, she and her team have uncovered a fully intact Neanderthal woman frozen in a block of ice. Amazed with this discovery, Lisa proclaims that she wants to bring it back to life with her reanimation machine.

S7E01A Oh, I can't wait to take her DNA sample

The prehistoric cavewoman is put on display within the museum.

At the museum, where the Neanderthal is on display, Lisa approaches Dr. Alvarez to congratulate her for the discovery. When Dr. Alvarez states that she wants to extract a DNA sample from the frozen body, Lisa makes the suggestion that they instead revive her. However, Dr. Alvarez declines the offer, worried that the Neanderthal wouldn't adapt well with today's time. When Dr. Alvarez leaves to go play in a volleyball match, Lisa decides to go against Dr. Alvarez's words and revive the frozen body, intending to freeze her back just before Dr. Alvarez returns.

Later that day, Lisa and Todd sneak into the museum and, after entering the Neanderthal display, manage to bring the frozen body to life with Lisa's reanimation machine. With Todd translating her grunts into English (where they learn her name is Frances), Lisa becomes awestruck by the amount of knowledge she holds, like how to make fire, eating dodo birds (by trying to eat a fake model of the bird), having art critiques, making weapons, and knowing what wheels are (by fastening new wheels on Todd after breaking his original ones by accident). Suddenly, while exploring more of the museum, Frances encounters the fossil of a dinosaur and becomes freaked out by its gargantuan size. After jumping into a garbage can for safety, Lisa notices her calming down after eating a discarded bag of cheese puffs. At that moment, Mr. Grouse, who is waiting for Scoots to cross the crosswalk, begins honking his horn impatiently. Freaking out from the loud noise, Frances rams out of the museum and starts to attack Mr. Grouse's car, where he proceeds to launch her into Gus' Games and Grub. After being told of Frances' whereabouts by Mr. Grouse, Lisa and Todd discover her playing on dance machine. Frances, who is shown to be a master at the game, succeeds in getting the high score. However, Frances, seeing the flashing high score lights as a threat, promptly destroys the machine and runs out.

While running, Frances arrives to Flip's Food & Fuel. Upon entering the store, she becomes enamored by the Flippee machine and decides to drink some of it. However, she suffers from a brain freeze, and when Flip arrives to see what the commotion is, Frances, thinking he's her old cave neighbor who stole her mammoth, attempts to attack him. This causes Flip to quickly seek shelter on his rooftop, and Lisa and Todd trying to calm Frances. However, Frances proves to be too strong for them to handle (especially when she breaks off Todd's arms), making Lisa realizes that the only one who can help them is Dr. Alvarez. After calling up Dr. Alvarez, who is in the middle of her volleyball game, Lisa tells her that she needs help. Later, Dr. Alvarez arrives with a net in an attempt to catch Frances. However, when Frances still proves to be too strong to handle, Dr. Alvarez begins to question how they could possibly calm her down. Seeing a bag of cheese puffs in the store, Lisa remembers that the synthetic cheese snack calmed Frances earlier and manages to use it to calm the raging Neanderthal down with success.

S7E01A Frances starts smashing the TV after watching The Dream Boat

Frances begins to adapt to the modern world... almost.

Arriving back to the museum, Lisa, Todd and Dr. Alvarez say their goodbyes to Frances before refreezing her. Suddenly, Frances refers to Lisa and Todd as "friends", and Lisa realizes that she's learning English, prompting her to ask Dr. Alvarez if Frances can stay unfrozen, saying that this is proof that she is capable of adapting. Sometime later, while giving a tour of the museum, Dr. Alvarez showcases an adapted Frances watching The Dream Boat alongside Lisa and Todd to the patrons. However, while watching the show, Frances becomes angered when a female contestant chooses a certain man over the other, prompting her to destroy the TV in rage, scaring the museum patrons away, and making Dr. Alvarez sheepishly declare that Frances is "almost adapted".

Trivia[]

S7E01A Frances sees the mammoth

Truly a wonderful thing on display.

  • This episode reveals that among the 600 different languages that Todd was mentioned to be fluent in "Making the Grade", he is also fluent in over 1,000,000 dialects out of them.
  • The museum has an elephant skull on display with a plaque that reads "Giant cyclops?! No, just an elephant skull."

References[]

  • Waking History - The title of this episode is a pun of the expression "making history", which means to accomplish a task that will hopefully be remembered by many.
  • I'll be a monkey's uncle - Lisa's line, "I'll be a primate's uncle!", is a pun on this idiom used to express complete surprise.
  • Good Morning, Vietnam - When translated into English, the name of the fusion restaurant that started construction in this episode, Guten Morgen Vietnam, shares its name with this 1987 war comedy film.
  • Encino Man - Frances being found frozen in a block of ice and later brought back to modern times is almost similar to the 1992 comedy film.

Errors[]

  • The plot for this episode states that Lisa thaws out a frozen caveman, but in the episode, she actually thaws out a cavewoman.
  • When Lisa tells Todd to turn his arm 55 degrees, he turns his arm 125 degrees.
  • Lisa refers to Frances' time as the Palæolithic era. The time period named Palæolithic was actually a period on the geological time scale, not an era.
  • When Frances throws a javelin attempting to hit the museum's recreated mammoth, the javelin hits Todd, taking off most of his bottom parts. However, when Frances gasps at the damage she has done, Todd's bottom parts that did not get chopped off are missing.
  • Frances knows how wheels work, and Lisa points out that the people of her time had already invented the wheel. In real life, the wheel was invented in the fourth millennium BC in Lower Mesopotamia.
