Scientific name | Taraxacum rovinia | ||
Family | Chrysanthemum |
The Creeping Chrysanthemum is a member of the chrysanthemum family that, when dormant, greatly resembles the Margaret, but can still be told apart from the normal flowers. When Pikmin or leaders get close, it will spring out of the ground and attack by attempting to eat them, although it can miss, which results in it toppling over and struggling for some seconds. It can replant itself by sucking itself into the ground until only the its flowers remain visible.

The Creeping Chrysanthemum returns in Pikmin 2... Again?, retaining its Pikmin 4 incarnation's appearance. It is a green frog-like creature with two two-toed legs, a long tongue, and two eyestalks resembling margarets and other plants, as well as two light cheeks. It mimicks margarets, but can easily be identified by its open eyes, which occasionally blink. Once prey comes near, the Creeping Chrysanthemum will look at them as an ominous tone plays, shortly after which it will come out of the ground. The Creeping Chrysanthemum will then launch its tongue at them, and if it catches any Pikmin or leaders, they'll be eaten, but it will always spit leaders back out, damaging them. If it misses, however, it'll try to pull its tongue out of the ground, and the force causes its tongue to hit it in the face, stunning it. A species based on its Pikmin 2 incarnation is known as the Bumping Chrysanthemum.

Notes
Olimar's observations
- “Despite how large and awkward this creature is, it shouldn't be underestimated in terms of power. Maybe it's just because we have to fight them without Purple Pikmin this time, but they really do seem to be more intimidating.”
Cookin' with Louie
- “When thinly sliced, this predator's sizeable bulb makes a sumptuous pizza topping.”

Attacks | Eats Pikmin |
The Creeping Chrysanthemum is conceptually unchanged in Pikmin V, but its body has been made skinnier and less squishy to appear more like real root vegetables. Its arm-roots support its whole body weight now, with the top and bottom swiveling around the connection point. It emerges from the ground by sticking the roots out, which then pull the body, and does that in reverse to return to the earth. It scoops its head down to eat Pikmin, with the inertia toppling it forward to the ground if it misses, and it shakes Pikmin off by swinging its body to throw them all in front of it.
Notes
Brittany's notes
- “Until recently, the Creeping Chrysanthemum was classified as a real species of chrysanthemum. It has since been discovered that the body is an independent organism on which actual chrysanthemums grow in a parasitic yet symbiotic fashion. The flower handles reproduction with a hybridized seedling containing both offspring, and the predatorial Impostflor fends off pests and provides nutrition for the both of them during life. It's fascinating creatures like this that have expanded my interests beyond just botany!”
Olimar's notes
- “It can be distinguished from a normal Margaret because it has only the three flowers that become its face and eyes; the eyes are also visible on the flowers, even while buried. Its poor balance and elevated head make rushing its body an effective strategy to topple it.”

Attacks | Eats Pikmin |
The Creeping Chrysanthemum is a returning enemy appearing in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. The creature retains its appearance from Pikmin 4, but in the Nostalgic Dive, it resembles its Pikmin 2 incarnation in both appearance and behavior. Normally, the creature disguises itself as a large patch of white daisies. When approached, the beast will pop out of the ground and wander over to the squad, shooting out its long, sticky tongue at an extreme speed. This can catch up to ten Pikmin, which the Chrysanthemum will eat. If it doesn’t hit anything, the tongue will be stuck for five seconds, allowing for Pikmin to attack the creature's main body. When killed, the creature petals will wilt away, and a plant matching the Chrysanthemum's disguise will remain there for three days, disappearing the day after the enemy reappears.
In the Nostalgic Dive, the Creeping Chrysanthemum is much different. It disguises itself as a Margaret, popping out when approached. It will attack Pikmin by slamming down its large, bulbous mouth, eating up to five Pikmin at once. If there are no Pikmin, the beast will slam its mouth onto its body and fall down, wriggling around for a bit before getting up. If attacked, the creature will squeeze itself very tightly before drastically shaking off Pikmin in every direction. If killed, the creature does not leave its main body; it instead leaves the bulbous mouth to collect.

The Creeping Chrysanthemum is an enemy in Pikmin: Interstellar Cryptid. It resembles its Pikmin 4 incarnation, with its Pikmin 2 incarnation appearing as a seperate enemy. They remain buried in the ground, resembling white daisies in disguise, until approached. Afterward, they'll jump out of the ground and begin lashing out with their massive tongue. If dodged, the tongue will get stuck on the ground before slinging back into the Creeping Chrysanthemum's body, stunning it briefly.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “Most plants in the ecosystems they live in fulfill the role of producers, providing nourishment for herbivores that in turn feed larger predators. However, certain members of the ambuloradices class have evolved into taking the role of consumer due to impairments disallowing them from siphoning nitrogen from the soil. It uses its flowery eyestalks to maintain a facade of harmlessness, before striking at prey items with its massive, amphibious tongue. Interestingly, Pikmin do not seem to be tricked by its disguise, perhaps because of their close relation.”
Louie's notes
- “The tongue of this creature should be severed and peeled. Mash it with a bit of honey and sugar, and let them marinate. This marmalade tastes best when spread onto crumpets and toasted bagels.”
Bentley's notes
- “You can't even pick the wildflowers without at least a mild smidge of concern. This beast is a chilling reminder of the cruelty of beauty, and the abject danger of the natural world.”
Eloise's notes
- “If my dearest grandma hears of this creature, she'll uproot her entire garden in fear. I should keep this one a secret.”

“ | AUGH! Where did this frog thing come from!? | ” | – The ship, upon discovering the Creeping Chrysanthemum |
---|
The Creeping Chrysanthemum is a returning species of chrysanthemum in Pikmin: Pitstop. They have a round, green body with a light green front and bright green cheeks. They also have two frog-like feet with an orange coloration, and a long, red tongue covered in thorns that they can shoot out to eat Pikmin. Its most noticeable feature is the bunch of white daisies on its head, which also has two eyes instead of the usual yellow center of the flower. The flowers are the only part visible when it’s buried, as the rest of its body is concealed.
The Creeping Chrysanthemum will remain concealed, disguised as a normal bunch of daisies. Once approached, however, it will suddenly burst out of the ground, knocking away any Pikmin that approach it. The Creeping Chrysanthemum can shoot out its long tongue to capture and eat Pikmin from far away. If it doesn’t capture any Pikmin, its tongue will stay in place for a few seconds, allowing an opening for attack. The shake of a Creeping Chrysanthemum is particularly strong and can shake off Pikmin to far distances.
The Creeping Chrysanthemum is quite dangerous if it manages to get in a sneak attack. Be cautious around plants it disguised itself as. One discernible feature is the eyelids of the chrysanthemum, which can be seen as a slit along the yellow center of the flower. When the Creeping Chrysanthemum fires its tongue, dodge it, and charge the beast with Pikmin when it’s stuck to ensure an easy victory. Another strategy is utilizing Willow; after sending her to any plants that look suspicious, she will uproot them with her claws. If she manages to pull and uproot a Creeping Chrysanthemum, it will be forced out of the ground and stunned for a short period.
Notes
- Data file #1: Be cautious of suspicious-looking plants, a chrysanthemum may be hiding among them.
- Data file #2: Send Willow to any plants to uproot them and thwart the Creeping Chrysanthemum’s disguise!
Louie's notes
- “Willow has a keen nose, so she can spot these imposters underground. I wonder if she has a keen tongue for my delicacies as well...”
Overlord’s insight
- “This species of chrysanthemum has more amphibious traits, like its feet which it uses to dig into soft ground. It’s not entirely aquatic, like the Bogus Barnacle, but it does have wet, sticky skin which it uses to absorb nutrients from the soil when it’s hiding. I have to admit, this animal's disguise is the best I’ve seen, I can barely tell it’s a Creeping Chrysanthemum! It’s kind of a bad thing, I took home a daisy one day to add to my garden... and I didn’t know it was a Chrysanthemum until it started eating all of my whiskerpillars. Lesson learned.”
