---|
The Flying Spotted Jellyfloat is a species of jellyfloat in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. Like other jellyfloats, they resemble small jellyfish, having a blue, translucent body with white dots and markings, two glowing, yellow antennae, and numerous small tentacles that come out of the bottom of their body. The jellyfloat can float in the air, just like all other species of its kind.
Flying Spotted Jellyfloats will wander around idly in their territory. They are found much higher in the air compared to other aerial enemies. Once the Jellyfloat ends up above a group of Pikmin, it will gently descend for a few seconds before tensing up and falling to the ground with a thud. They can crush up to three Pikmin with this attack, and they will pop out of the ground after around ten seconds of rest, soon returning to the air.
Flying Spotted Jellyfloats are relatively easy to take out. Once they fall to the ground, swarming them with Pikmin will cause them to quickly perish and shrivel up. Sending Winged Pikmin to fight the creature is also effective, as they have the ability of flight and can attack the jellyfloat in the air.
In Overlord mode, the Flying Spotted Jellyfloat will not only crush more Pikmin, but fool leaders by slowly rising back up for two seconds before quickly slamming back into the ground again.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “When I first saw this creature on a previous expedition, I suspected it was a juvenile Lesser Spotted Jellyfloat. But it’s been classified as a much smaller, separate species. Due to their smaller size, they can’t suck up prey with their mouths, instead choosing to crush them. The jellyfloat will transfer all of its mass to the bottom of its body, falling to crush its prey. This is their main strategy of hunting for food.”
Louie's notes
- “This species has a rubbery texture, but not a lot of flavor. Using seasoning is recommended. Make sure to sear this jellyfloat on a pan to help harden its slimy texture, before cutting into small cubes to make it easier to eat. Tastes better when chewed thoroughly.”
President’s notes
- “So this jellyfloat was a creature Olimar found on another expedition? So he went on an expedition without MY permission?! OLIMAR!!!”
Overlord’s thoughts
- “I thought this was a baby jellyfloat, but I was wrong. I thought the same for the Pygmy Spectralid too, they’re just so tiny. I think about fifty of them can fit on one of my fingernails. I wouldn’t recommend holding jellyfloats, though. Some of them shock you. I’m looking at you, Galvanic Jellyfloat...”

In Pikmin: Shipwrecked Stargazers the Flying Spotted Jellyfloat has been adapted into a three-dimensional environment. It often flies in diagonal directions when in pursuit to confuse the squad, and abruptly falls on top of Pikmin it may be hovering over to crush them. When defeated, they die similarly to the Lesser Spotted Jellyfloats in Pikmin 2, flying around erratically through the air for some moments before bursting into a shower of sparkles.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “A smaller species of jellyfloat that thrives in humid or moist areas. The flying spotted jellyfloat is particularly common in the rainy season and nestles its polyps within its bell. This ensures they have a moist hideaway to grow safely in, and they are harmlessly expelled from their parent after three years. Underneath the bell is a hard, marble-like growth that is too tough to chew on, and even harder to resist blunt force from. It uses this peculiar growth to incapacitate would-be predators while its brood incubates.”
Louie's notes
- “Although flavorless, this creature's natural dye can be repurposed into an alternative for blue food coloring. If you're getting fresh samples, however, be mindful of any parent jellyfloats. As expected, they're much more aggressive than others.”
Ship's comments
- “I'm frustrated that I can't analyze that chitinous growth of its. No normal jellyfish has anything solid on it, so what gives? There could be a scientific revolution in progress as a result of this creature, and I won't get the credit for it!”
