Yellow Pikmin are a yellow species of Pikmin, with the special abilities of increased throw height and electricity resistance. The defining feature of this particular Pikmin is what would appear to be large ears. Their petals are white, and their main method of production is through the Yellow Onion. In Pikmin 1, Yellow Pikmin are the only Pikmin able to handle bomb rocks. In Pikmin 2, Yellow Pikmin are resistant to electricity but are unable to carry bomb rocks. In Pikmin 3, Yellow Pikmin retain their resistance to electricity and can conduct it, becoming flowered in this process.

Yellow Pikmin are the third Pikmin type discovered in Pikmin Forever. They are found early on in the Scalding Thicket. They retain their immunity to electricity, their high throwing trajectory, and their conductivity. However, they can now also store electricity, like a battery, for up to thirty seconds, unless recharged at an electric arc. This electric charge increases their speed slightly and allows them to power disconnected circuitry, such as in a magnetic bridge.

In Pikmin Kart, Yellow Pikmin are items that are commonly found from item boxes. They can be thrown in front of the kart of the player that received them, and they will latch onto any kart in their range. Their range is one-hundred-eighty degrees instead of one hundred twenty degrees, allowing them to latch onto karts to the side of the player that threw them. The driver who gets hit with one has to swerve wildly to shake it off. They also won't fall off if the driver drives into an electrical wire. As with all Pikmin items, the Whistle item can protect a player from Pikmin attacks, but with Yellow Pikmin, they can't steal them!

“ | It's the Yellow Pikmin! They seem to be coursing with energy. I hope they still have their usual immunity to electricity. As you saw from them being on the tree ledge, I can assure you they can still traverse great heights! | ” | – The ship, upon discovering the Yellow Pikmin |
---|
Yellow Pikmin are a returning type of Pikmin in Pikmin: Decayed Leaf. They are one of the first types to be discovered. Like most Pikmin types, the Yellow Pikmin has an obtuse head and small body, with two stubby legs and feet with three toes, along with two arms with hands that have four fingers. They have two eyes with white sclerae and large black pupils, and a tall stem on the top of their head that can sprout into a leaf, bud, or flower. The Yellow Pikmin, as their name implies, has yellow skin, and most notably, two very large, pointy ears. The voice of a Yellow Pikmin has a slightly higher pitch. They have their own Onion, the Yellow Onion, which can be merged into the Master Onion. To create more Yellow Pikmin without an Onion, throw other Pikmin types into a Golden Candypop Bud. When an ultra-energetic spray is used, Yellow Pikmin are especially boosted by it and gain more out of the spray than other Pikmin types.
The Yellow Pikmin has a variety of traits that make it a valuable asset. They have slightly faster walking speed, although it cannot match the speed of White Pikmin normally. They can match such a speed when they are carrying a small bomb rock, due to how volatile the explosive is. Yellow Pikmin can also be thrown to greater heights not accessible by other Pikmin types. Some treasures may be located at higher heights by strings or webs, or hanging off of trees, which allow them to be collected by Winged Pikmin. If the treasure is far from a ledge and is a high distance, the Winged Pikmin won't be able to lock on, and only Yellow Pikmin can be used. Electrical hazards may also be nearby, which halts the Winged Pikmin advancements. Another notable trait of the Yellow Pikmin is their increased digging speed, making them a valuable asset in digging up treasures when Fur Pikmin or White Pikmin aren't nearby.
Yellow Pikmin can survive and utilize one hazard; electricity. Any form of electric current, whether it comes from a hazard like an electricity generator, an electric current like from an Anode Beetle, or the enemy is surging with electricity like the Electric Dumple, the Yellow Pikmin are completely immune to being shocked and killed. This means only Yellow Pikmin can take out hazards like electrical gates, and electrical wires. Massive bursts of electricity, like the thunder from an Thunderous Blowhog, will not knock back Yellow Pikmin. If there are electrodes present, then the Yellow Pikmin can interact with them. If enough Pikmin connect their arms in a line, forming the missing wire piece, then they will reform the severed electrical current between the electrode. This can cause a variety of things to happen, depending on what the electrode is connected to. Mainly, it can light up giant lightbulbs, which can blind members of the aerodentia family, or sprout Bloominous Stemples. When Yellow Pikmin reform an electrode, it will cause them to bloom their flowers, and give the entire squad of Yellow Pikmin present a temporary mobility boost. Overall, Yellow Pikmin are crucial for solving puzzles involving electrodes to access bosses and treasures.
In Overlord mode, Yellow Pikmin move and dig slightly slower than usual.
Notes
Data file #1: Yellow Pikmin can withstand and utilize electricity!
Data file #2: Yellow Pikmin can dig slightly faster, compared to most Pikmin types.
Data file #3: If carrying a bomb rock, Yellow Pikmin will move much faster.
Data file #4: Yellow Pikmin can generate electrical currents through electrodes.
Data file #5: Can't reach a height? Try throwing Yellow Pikmin up to it!
Olimar's notes
- “Yellow Pikmin, like most Pikmin, come from the Ambuloradicis class, which are creatures that exhibit plant-like characteristics. They have a noticeable pair of lamellae on their head, which allow for them to dig through dirt easier, and aerial momentum to reach higher places when jumping. In this case, we're throwing them to even greater heights. This Pikmin type can utilize anode currents and let them pass through their body to conduct electricity. Interestingly, it blooms their flowers immediately when they generate electric currents. More likely than not they have their own neural transmission methods that are far different than Hocotatians possess.”
Louie's notes
- “Sour! Sour! Don't ask how I know this information.”
President’s notes
- “They have pointy ears like us Hocotatians. They are also the color of Pokos... and gold! Perhaps, these are lost ancestors of the Hocotatians, and can lead us to great riches! TELL ME WHAT YOU KNOW, YELLOW PIKMIN!!!”
Overlord’s thoughts
- “I've already learned my lesson of grabbing these Pikmin without gloves. I grabbed a handful of these Yellow Pikmin, and they generated an electrical shock so massive, you could see it from outer space! Remind me to grab Yellow Pikmin one at a time.”

Yellow Pikmin appear in Pikmin: Return, and they are the second type of Pikmin found. They can still be thrown high, and both are immune to and conduct electricity. Much like in Pikmin Forever, they can store electricity, except now it lasts an extended forty-five seconds and can be lost more easily. They are slightly faster and have an increase of attack power when they are charged, and can stun most enemies, although this removes the Pikmin's charge. Another use of this electricity is that it can be used to power disconnected wires. This energy can be lost by attacking enemies, attacking electric gates, and getting dropped in water, which will all discharge a charged Yellow Pikmin. The only way to charge Pikmin are electric arcs. Charged Pikmin will release small sparks, will have a higher-pitched voice, will be separated from the group when disbanded, and will have a different throw icon than normal Yellow Pikmin.

Yellow Pikmin are the first type of Pikmin discovered in Pikmin: Return to the Distant Planet, at Serene Terrace. They are resistant to electricity, making them ideal for dealing with electrical traps and enemies. This natural resistance also gives them some electrical conductivity, meaning they can complete circuits to turn on lights or other electronics connected by wire. They are thrown higher than other Pikmin types, making them useful for reaching objects out of the reach of other types. Yellow Pikmin have what appear to be large ears. It is unknown if this improves their hearing in any way, however, their large ears do help them be thrown higher than other types. They also act as a sort of shovel when digging, giving them the fastest excavation times compared to other Pikmin.

Their petals are white, their height is thirty-three millimeters, and their carry capacity while under the effects of ultra-sour spray is four.
Notes
Olimar's notes
- “This type of Pikmin has a lower body density than other Pikmin types, which gives them their high throwing capabilities. With such big ears, maybe they're used for throwing as well? Hearing even? Not enough evidence has been compiled in which this can be said true.”
Tang's notes
- “Not the Pikmin you would want exclusively in a battle unless up against an enemy with electricity. However, if put in the same group with other Pikmin of higher strength, or in big numbers, these little guys can be used for fighting. It's just the variables at this point.”
Robin's notes
- “That electricity immunity sure does look useful to me, and the ability to conduct it makes them that just more fun to entertain a machine powered by a long line of conducting Pikmin. I'll add it to the ideas book.”

Yellow Pikmin are the first main Pikmin species to be found in Pikmin: Wide World. They are discovered at Balmy Highlands, by Shacho. They are resistant to electricity and can conduct it as well. Yellow Pikmin have average attack power and mobility, and high throw range and digging speed. A Yellow Pikmin's defining features are its large, pointed ears and white petals. The voice of a Yellow Pikmin is more cheery-sounding than that of other Pikmin. Golden Candypops can be used to convert other Pikmin types into Yellow Pikmin.
Yellow Pikmin can be thrown higher than any other Pikmin type, making them useful for elevated targets other Pikmin can't get to. They also dig up buried objects and clear out tunnels faster than any other Pikmin type. Yellow Pikmin will automatically absorb the electrical current flowing through a nearby electrocuted Pikmin's body, returning them to normal so leaders don't have to. However, they are not flowered by absorbing electrical energy.
When in direct exposure to electricity, Yellow Pikmin become charged for 5 seconds, glowing white. Like this, they have a chance to very briefly stun enemies on contact. This state is instantly canceled by physical contact, including trying to throw affected Yellow Pikmin without the Anti-Electrifier equipped. Charged Yellow Pikmin can power up other Yellow Pikmin on contact with a diminished duration of 3 seconds, and those Yellow Pikmin for 1 second, before the charge can no longer be spread.
Notes
Data file #1 (all difficulties): Yellow Pikmin are unaffected by electricity, and can conduct it too.
Data file #2 (all difficulties): A Yellow Pikmin's ears grant it a superior throw height and digging speed.
Data file #3 (all difficulties): Yellow Pikmin can return electrocuted Pikmin to normal.
Data file #4 (all difficulties): Yellow Pikmin are charged by electricity, giving them a chance to stun enemies.
Olimar's comments
“The skin of this pikmin is capable of absorbing and conducting electricity. Using this ability, it can assist pikmin that endanger themselves in its territory, and power electrical devices using nearby power sources. Its unique ear-like growths catch much wind, allowing it greater height when thrown or launched.”
Shacho's comments
“I was terrified at first because I thought their mothership would eat me, but I'm glad I ended up where I did after Olimar ejected me from the Lander. He ought to read the manual sometime!”
Marie's comments
“Having these pikmin out with me always perks me up when I'm feeling down. They sound so cheery, I can't help having a smile on my face!”
Louie's comments
“I licked one once. It was like sticking a fork in a power outlet, but the fork was my tongue.”
Dolphin Lander's comments
“As much as it would disappoint Shacho, Sagittarius did not get the chance to write a user manual for his father to read. Not that Olimar would get much time to read it, anyway... Or be able to read it in the first place. Sagittarius writes in scribbles. Like a doctor's signature.”
