The Plump Sheargrub is a mandiblard found in the files of Pikmin 3. It vaguely resembles a fat Male Sheargrub in color and size, and has a small, purple body, beady green eyes, a tan and brown underside and mandibles, a lavender-colored mouth, and what appears to be four small nubs that act as feet. The Plump Sheargrub is possibly a prototype of the Swarming Sheargrub, as it exhibits similar behaviors. It moves very quickly and has extreme difficulty catching and eating Pikmin as a result. It is unable to damage leaders. Damaging a Plump Sheargrub is practically impossible and can only be done by throwing Rock Pikmin at it or using bomb rocks against it.

The Shearsprint is a springjab in Pikmin 2... Again?. It is similar to the Shearflea, but its mouth is more like a Male Sheargrub's and yellow. It is one of the fastest enemies, but its speed drastically reduces the accuracy of its bites. However, Pikmin it catches in its jaws are eaten instantly, with no chance of saving them. A single Pikmin throw is capable of killing one, though its quick and unpredictable movement may make aiming difficult.

Attacks | Eats Pikmin |
The Plump Sheargrub is a mandiblard appearing in Pikmin: Wide World. It remains buried in soft ground in groups of 5-6, each Plump Sheargrub's position indicated by a small mound. When Pikmin or leaders approach, the entire group emerges to investigate, starting from those closest. Plump Sheargubs slowly pursue Pikmin to eat them and leaders to deliver a powerful bite. It is large enough to eat most juvenile parasitic Pikmin hosts but can not grasp Rock Pikmin, which it merely knocks back with every bite. When their prey leaves their territory, every Plump Sheargrub in a group gradually burrows back into the ground, starting from those furthest away. Plump Sheargrubs burrowed near a stick bridge or climbing stick will emerge to chew at it until it returns to its original form and will not turn their attention to nearby Pikmin or leaders until they are done.
Like most mandiblards, the Plump Sheargrub has a simple body structure. Slightly larger than most of its kin and rotund, it has a smooth tan head and rump, and bloated ribbed, purplish midsection. Its face features light blue eyes, and hooked pincers.
Plump Sheargrubs can take a beating due in no small part to their slightly larger size and their blubbery being. Landing Pikmin on top of a Plump Sheargrub is only instantly lethal to it if a Purple Pikmin is used, but throwing a few Rock Pikmin at it is a good strategy. Swarming naturally remains the optimal strategy, capable of felling an entire group in moments with enough Pikmin. Hardy as they are, Plump Sheargrubs gradually recover health while buried, which they may take advantage of at least once in battle. Specifically, they burrow when their health drops below 1/3rd and only come out when it reaches at least 1/2. Upon death, a Plump Sheargrub will twitch several times, and go limp. If crushed, it simply goes limp instead.
In ultra-spicy difficulty, a Plump Sheargrub resists 20% of non-instant-kill damage at all times except while eating, be it Pikmin or wooden obstacles.
Notes
- Data file #1 (all difficulties): A Plump Sheargrub eats quickly and has a powerful bite.
- Data file #2 (all difficulties): Nothing else matters to a Plump Sheargrub while it's eating.
- Data file #3 (all difficulties): While burrowed, a Plump Sheargrub will recover health.
- Data file #4 (all difficulties): It's better to swarm Plump Sheargrubs than land Pikmin on them.
- Data file #5 (ultra-spicy difficulty only): A Plump Sheargrub is far less resilient while eating.
Olimar's comments
- “This obese mandiblard has a thick layer of fat that keeps it warm and protects it from harm. It has slow movement but that does not stop it from devouring prey quickly.”
Shacho's comments
- “Some people might say I'm as round as this bug, but I'm pretty quick when I need to be!”
Marie's comments
- “Plump sheargrubs inch along the ground at a slow pace and eat like they're at a buffet. They scarf food down as fast as possible, so watch your fingers!”
Louie's comments
- “Not worth hunting for meat, but the fat is great for frying food in.”
Dolphin Lander's comments
- “It's always funny seeing these crawl along the ground, but not when they start devouring the multicolored and multitalented pikmin helping us survive.”
