Very seldom will a character, even of the Magnificent kind, perform perfectly without a single mistake to their name and, in fact, being too flawless can often result in a character becoming less interesting and enjoyable for the audience as the story becomes too predictable.
Therefore, even among Magnificent Baddies, mistakes are very common. Sometimes, however, those mistakes can deviate from mere inevitable imperfection and be large missteps or bad decisions that could be potentially fatal to the Baddie. In other moments, the MB may have moments of letting their emotions getting the better of them or even have a full-blown Villainous Breakdown. Other times yet, the MB may be played for a fool from another character (sometimes a fellow MB) or have moments where they allow themselves to be petty.
These moments, called Slip-Ups, are instances where the Magnificent Baddie temporarily deviates from their usual cunning or respectability, and have been involved in a misguided situation.
While they are instances that can hardly be overlooked, they never go as far as to become disqualifying factors as they're very brief, have decent reasoning behind them and the MB will often make up for them, repair the damage they caused to their schemes or even learn and grow from their mistake.
Examples include:
- Severus Snape, who has his shoes barfed on or getting his cloak set on fire by Hermione, but neither instance does he seem to break down. In fact, it adds a comedic element like how he punishes McLaggen calmly or him trying to stamp out the fire.
- Stanley Pines, who has various instances where he'll choose very dumb hills to die on (some of which are not even feigned stupidity on his part) and almost caused Bill Cipher to win due to a petty quarrel with his brother Ford.
- Silco, who had a violent breakdown after Vi escaped him, was completely at Sevika's mercy when Finn attempted a coupe on him before winning her over again with a speech on loyalty and was willing to throw all his dreams and Zaun's victory away for Jinx's sake.
- Gale, who fell for Poncho and North Star's booby trap before being freed by Pueblo.
- Meta Knight, who was deceived by Magolor and has fallen under the Possession or Brainwashing of more than one villain.
- Gus Fring, who briefly startled by Hector Salamanca's bomb, but soon regained his composure, blew himself halfway, and stood up to straighten his tie to death.
- Mettaton, who foolishly turned around when Frisk tricked him by telling him there was a mirror behind him, allowing Frisk to flip his switch.
- Mr. Wolf, who got into some humiliating moments such as getting hit by a truck or having his pants ripped off after attempting to escape with a grappling hook and was manipulated by Professor Marmalade.
- Slim Cognito, who nearly got caught after selling a suck cannon upgrade to a minor who he thought was older.
- Sasha Waybright, who got her face thrown in a mud by Sprig to stop her from manipulating Anne and failed to send Anne back home to Earth because she had no idea how to use the Calamity Box.
- Shadow Moon, who often got held back by the Creation King and also got outsmarted by Black for a while which led to him almost having a breakdown, but he recovers from it and manages to "redeem" himself and outsmarts his archenemy, alongside making his brainwashers pay.
- Fennec Shand, who attempted to convince Toro Calican to free her, only to be shot by him and left for dead.
- Bloodsport, who violently killed a group of rebels after thinking they were Corto Maltese soldiers.
- El Macho, who got ran over after he attempted to kill Gru and Lucy.
- Shadow the Hedgehog, who failed to operate a simple printer and exposed his gift for Amy Rose's birthday.
- Nightmare, who fell for Vucarik's distraction tactic, allowing the rival demon lord to invade his realm, injure his family's children, and free and release William Afton from Hell, and also had his plan to intimidate Fazbear Entertainment's executives into compliance backfire when one of them threw a wrench into his and his ally Mike Schmidt's plans by revealing Fazbear Entertainment's secret project and resigning as an executive.
- Goldilocks, who foolishly thought that Puss was a different cat rather than being him and thought he was dead.
- Dr. Loboto, who foolishly got tricked by Mr. Pokeylope disguised as a brain which got him blasted off into a hole which would have killed him and got tricked again at the beginning of Psychonauts 2 into thinking he is employee of the year and that he is going on a vacation.
- Nolan Booth, who foolishly mistook Jurassic Park for a Bull documentary and only realizing the mix-up after he and John were fighting a bull.
- The Cat in the Hat, who accidentally chopped his tail off during a argument with himself.
- Zeke Yeager, while he had a breakdown after Eren betrayed him and used him to create Titans, he recovered from it and let Levi kill him to stop the Rumbling without hesitation.
- Titan, who did an incredibly poor job at hiding Astrodude being on his surface from the Moon before recovering from it by successfully delaying his release to the point where he got what he wanted from the astronaut.
