“ Methinks we could do a tradeoff. Scratch me back, I scratch yers. „
~ Finnegan Hood making a deal with Phoenix Wright.

Finnegan Hood is a character from the Ace Attorney fangame, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Conflict of Interest. He is a former attorney who used amoral means to get clients off the hook. He is the adoptive father of Jane Hood.

He was voiced by Lind.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • He is genuinely affable and is very good at making friendly conversation with other people.
  • He cares for his foster daughter Jane Hood so much that he is willing to protect if she was involved in murder - even frame an innocent person for murder. He adopted her after her father (his final client) was killed by Shelly de Killer because he felt bad for her. He also taught her some of his own manipulation tactics. In fact, he taught her so well that she is worthy of being an MB in her own right.
  • While he is an amoral attorney, he is actually rather honest about that fact and doesn't hide it which provides some charm to his character. He even advises Phoenix not to trust him.
  • He is very manipulative and it shows when he is testifying in court. For instance…
    • He makes a deal with Phoenix where he will share his testimony of the crime in exchange for some information on it. This is a win-win situation for him as he can always check with the court to be sure that the information he received is accurate so he can use it against Phoenix.
    • When testify about the crime, he doesn't directly accuse the defendant, Allen Yossarian (really Fransisco Mendirez) and instead claims he couldn't identify the two men. This allows him to feign ignorance in case something doesn't add up.
    • When Trucy argues that he actually saw a woman instead of a man, he uses this to his advantage and accuses Galdys Porter who was a witness to the crime.
    • When Phoenix points out that Galdys Porter wouldn't help the Rivales Family due to them murdering their sister, he argues that there is no proof that the Rivales Family was involved with the murder since there was no calling card near the crime scene.
    • When Phoenix claims he was in the woods the entire time instead of in his house like he claims, he wriggles his way out by claiming that because of that fact that the murder was month ago, he simply had a slipped memory and that he told Jane to stay put before going outside for an unknown reason before going back inside. He also pointed out how there was not enough time to do all that and commit the murder within that amount of time.
    • When he argues that the shouting man he saw couldn't have been Virgil Black due to him being stabbed in the lung, he uses this to say that the man he did see could have been the one during Steven Jameson's murder which in turn shifts the blame to Mendirez.
    • When Phoenix accuses Jane for the murder, he testifies about that they have a rock-solid alibi for the murder in which a bottle of wine broke and Jane was cleaning it up when he left and was still home when he good back.
    • When Phoenix proves the accident actually happened during Jameson's murder, it seems like Jane might be the killer after all….. Until it's revealed that was Finnegan's actual goal all along since it gives them an alibi during Jameson's murder. This in turn weakens the odds of them being the culprits since the same person killed both Black and Jameson.
    • During his final testimony where he tries to prove that Galdys Porter killed Virgil Black, he also draws attention to Mendirez to get the prosecution on his side.
  • While he does lose his composure during the trial, he ends up regaining it.
  • When he meets Phoenix again, he tells him that he isn't mad about the trial and has no hard feelings towards him.
  • He is so good at manipulation that he leaves Trucy unsure if he is a step ahead or not.
  • He put Shelly de Killer's calling card in Mendirez's house to convince the police that he is the culprit.
  • If Phoenix decides to trust him when he asks for the second time, he tells Phoenix that while they will never be friends, he still likes him. He also visits Phoenix during the final trial to tell him that since he is trusting him despite him being a liar, he is placing his trust in him since he and Jane are in danger of being killed by Carlo Lucanio.
  • His plan to prove that Jane wasn't the murder is successful and while he is getting a perjury charge, he clearly isn't too upset about it.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • He was an amoral attorney who used unethical methods to get his clients off the hook.
  • He tried to frame Gladys Porter for the murder of Virgil Black and Steven Jameson.
  • While well intended, his advice towards Jane heavily warped her mindset.

Trivia[]

  • He is an evil parallel to Phoenix Wright
    • Both used to be defense attorneys until they were disbarred for forging evidence. Whereas Phoenix was innocent and got his badge back, Finnegan really did do it and still hasn't got his badge yet.
    • Both put trust in their clients.
    • Both care for their daughters and both daughters share their intellect.
    • Both are extremely good at figuring stuff out and are use their intellect against foes.
