Hutch Mansell is the titular main protagonist in the 2021 action-thriller film, Nobody. He is a former "auditor"/professional assassin of the CIA who retired to live the rest of his life as a simple, ordinary family man who is happily married and with children. However, a series between a robbery at his home and a group of Russian thugs causing a ruckus on a bus gave Hutch the opportunity to relive his thrilling urges and finds himself going up against the Russian mafia boss, Yulian Kuznetsov.

He was portrayed by Bob Odenkirk.

What Makes Him Magnificent?[]

  • In courtesy of Bob Odenkirk's brilliant and outstanding performance, Hutch is memorable for his badassery and genius tactics, one that is familiarly comparable to that of fellow MB, John Wick.
  • He used to be a professional assassin for the CIA who is so feared for his reputation that the slightest chance of someone recognizing his tattoo would immediately go into hiding, such as an old man from a tattoo shop. Despite his retirement, Hutch maintained his skilled prowess, fighting style, brutal techniques, and keen intelligence after years of living a normal life.
  • He's proven to be a family man. He has a stable relationship with his wife, Becca, and truly cares about his children, Blake and Abby, even when they think rather less of him, he's able to rekindle with them afterward and is protective of them for their sake. He even adopted a cat and took care of it, knowing his daughter wanted one.
  • To say how he's such a badass is an understatement considering his family lineage. His father, David, was a war veteran with a love for shotguns, and his brother, Harry, is just as skilled and practically more cautious than Hutch. It's even implied his son Blake inherited Hutch's instincts since he was able to fight back against one of the robbers (before Hutch stopping him at that time).
  • He has moral standards, always making sure no civilian gets caught in the crossfire. These involved asking a bus driver to get off for her safety and not call the cops, saving a young girl from being possibly raped by Teddy Kuznetsov and his gang, and sparing the same couple who broke into his house after finding out they had a sick baby to take care of.
  • He's a suave negotiator, he gave Yulian a choice between backing out on working for his clients or continuing their feud, advising him there's always a chance to rebuild everything. He even made a deal with his father-in-law, Eddie Williams, to buy his company building with dozens of golden bars he kept for occasions like this.
  • Proven himself to be merciful as he genuinely believed Alan, one of his targets, truly regretted what he had done and came back a year later to check on him for that matter.
  • Thinking back on what he wanted in his life after seeing Alan and his beautiful family, he decided to retire to live the rest of his days as an ordinary family man despite the CIA's protests against him.
  • He was able to realize that the robbers were unarmed due to seeing no bullets in their gun's holster, not acting in self-defense knowing they weren't a threat to him, and only allowing them to get away with very little cash he had. He only goes out of his way to find them when his daughter's bracelet is lost, using his dad's FBI I.D. and handgun to impersonate himself as an investigator, coming around several tattoo shops in hopes of finding the two.
  • He fought and took out Teddy and his gang unarmed, brutalizing them where the former was at death's door and the latter was hospitalized as he intended. It's hard to feel sorry for them considering they set eyes on a young girl, implying their intentions to rape her, and had Hutch not been on the bus at that time, it likely would've happened.
  • He's capable of MacGyvering, getting his grip together, and going back on his feet despite being taken out twice. One is when he tries to focus his composure against Teddy's gang and quickly recovers after they throw him out the window despite his injuries. Then when Pavel tased and kidnapped him, he was able to make a comeback surprise by launching himself out of the trunk and using a fire extinguisher to cause their car to crash, escaping as a result.
  • Expecting Yulian's men to invade his home, he's revealed to have a bunker inside the basement and guided his family to safety in no less than seconds, telling Becca not to call the police. It's even indicated he built that bunker in case something bad was going to happen to them and he would later have them driven out to somewhere safe.
  • Manages to warn his father, David, about two assassins sent by Yulian coming after him. This succeeds as David kills the two with a shotgun.
  • Burnt down Yulian's men's corpses by setting his entire house on fire to leave no trace of evidence back to them or him, which the first thing he grabs while making it out is a portrait of his family.
  • Single-handedly took down Yulian's entire organization, massacring hundreds of his union members and guards, as well as burning down his art collection and the Obshak money, taking down the entire money laundering operation.
  • As a brilliant craftsman in setting up traps, he turned his father-in-law's company building into an enormous death trap, setting up explosives and installing contraptions all around the architect to lure Yulian and his entire mob to their deaths later on.
  • Manages to lure Yulian and his mob into his death trap, backed up by his father and brother, Harry, assisting him as they massacre dozens of mobsters left and right, as well as luring them to said traps.
  • When backed into a corner with Yulian being the last one standing, he strapped a bomb to a bulletproof glass, using it as a shield to block Yulian's shooting and finish off the sociopathic mobster.
  • He was able to get out of police custody after presumably calling the CIA to be bailed, though it's implied he has to go back to working for them again, knowing the risk.
  • While he has a slip-up on realizing his daughter's bracelet was underneath the couch this entire time, he never thought or knew it'd be there in the first place and his reaction was to be both surprised and amused. It doesn't detract from his magnificence either.
  • His brutality and killing instincts are more that of a thrill-seeking degree than a visceral sadistic one, considering he doesn't harm or get innocent people involved, chooses to do so against those who deserve it, and the only time he enjoyed it was when he burnt the Obshak money, of course, it's justified given Yulian sent his men to invade Hutch's home with his family still there at that time.

What Makes Him a Baddie?[]

  • Hutch had a history of likely hundreds of assassinations, some of which were graphically brutal. As shown through files from a hacker Yulian hired, the bodies were found hanging, floating on a river, or covered in cloth wrapping all tainted in blood.
  • Threatening the same couple who broke into his house in a hostile manner, assaulting the husband to retrieve his daughter's bracelet (which he thought at first), though he does spare them after knowing they did it for their sick baby.
  • Punched his brother-in-law, Charlie, in the stomach for protesting against a deal Hutch was making with his father-in-law. Though, Charlie was reaching out to hit him, so one could argue it was self-defense.
  • Stole his neighbor's expensive sports car and exclaims the same words he used to boast at the former. To be fair, the car of said neighbor was an inheritance of his father before his passing, which he felt no grief over.
