—Bunet in Chapter 12
Bunet is a character from Fire Emblem Engage. He is a royal knight from Solm, and Fogado's retainer and personal chef.
Profile[]
Hailing from a Solmic port trading town, Bunet is the son of a couple that ran the local bistro. He met Fogado during this time, engaging in long chats with the traveling prince. But when bandits raided the town, the bistro was destroyed and his parents were killed, forcing Bunet to flee with the rest of the villagers.
He traveled about working as a mercenary for some time after that, until entering a contest to become a royal chef. Despite losing the contest, Fogado decides to hire his old friend as his knight and personal chef. As a result, he joins the Sentinels as well.
While performing Sentinel duties in the Tullah Desert, word reaches the Sentinels that an unidentified group had entered Solm from Elusia. Fogado goes off to investigate, leaving Pandreo and Bunet behind. Fogado returns to his retainers shortly after and introduces one of the travelers to be Alear, the Divine Dragon.

Personality[]
Being a chef, Bunet is a passionate cook who is on the lookout for inspirations for dishes. He operates on his own wavelength and makes comparisons to people with food, such as comparing Alear's eyes to a tomato and blueberry. Inquisitive by nature related to food, he can also show surprising interest and makes odd, yet intrusive means of gathering information such as asking Alear to if he can taste a stain on their clothes that piqued his interest and asking Jade multiple times if he could lick her armor.
Despite his bizarre methods, Bunet is passionate about rebuilding his deceased parents' bistro, taking great pride in his cooking and especially in his role as Fogado's retainer, personal chef, and best friend. His pride as a chef led him to immediately deny Chloé's request to make folk-food as she describes it since it violates his standards as a cooking artisan. At the end though, he made food like it for her, but in his own style and quality after seeing her genuine appreciation for food on par with his own. He is also eager to experience cuisine and ingredients from all nations, quickly learning how to make onigiri from Kagetsu and integrating Firene flowers from Alfred into a salad.

Arriving in the middle of a midgame power spike for units that the player can recruit, Bunet is a modestly decent unit, though is overshadowed by many of the other units who enter the game at the same time. His bases and growths in Dexterity, Defense, and Luck are acceptable, but his base Strength and especially Speed are poor and leave his overall damage output low compared to some of the higher impact units. His Personal Skill, Seconds?, gives him a chance to not entirely consume a Leftover. While not the most high impact skill, it does save money from having to give him Vulnerary or Elixirs, especially when money is tight.
His starting class, Great Knight, gives him solid defenses and can potentially allow him a slight niche as a mobile physical tank, though there are other units who can serve as a solid wall long before him. He can contribute well in the battles after he is recruited, though he can often struggle to keep up and excel in the long run compared to some rather stellar units obtained around the same time.
Like most units, Bunet can be paired with strong Emblem Rings to alleviate his shortcomings - The Ring of the Radiant Hero is one that synergizes reasonably with his starting class by improving his Bulk, but does nothing to fix his Speed. The Ring of the Lady of the Plains can fix his Speed to the point where he will not be routinely doubled by enemies, but otherwise the ring's abilities are wasted on him as his offensive abilities are still low. He can work passably with supportive rings such as the Rings of the Princess Exalt and Instructor. Bunet's strongest, and most interesting synergy is between his Personal Skill and the Ring of the Caring Princess' Favorite Food skill which gives him a full Engage meter when he consumes Leftovers. This means that Bunet on his own has a chance of staying constantly Engaged throughout a battle and is the overall best efficient user of specifically Leftover items. If DLC is accessible, the Bracelet of the Brash General completely focuses him as an enemy phase unit and can actually start to use his powers much more effectively.
Overall, Bunet is a decent unit who can certainly fill a need for defensive units. He is mostly very gimmicky in nature, especially since he has a very specific, and limited, personal skill which also gives him a very unique synergy with an equally specific and limited Emblem skill to make great effective use of Leftovers. As such, he can potentially remain in a near constant Engage state with enough luck. If looking for a more interesting tank unit, Bunet serves the role decently, if not in a very unorthodox manner.
