Virazahn is a character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is the member of the Passage of the Unbound who stole the Perch of the Apex. Virazahn calls himself the Justiciar, the savior of Radz-at-Han. He is the antagonist during the Magical Ranged DPS role quests in the Dawntrail expansion.
History[]
Before Dawntrail[]
Virazahn was obsessed with stories of legendary heroes from a young age. He studied archery and his arrogance led him to believe that he had become as skilled as the heroes he admired. Instead of honing his skills, Virazahn came to rely on sophisticated equipment and exotic potions. His father gave him enough money to support his luxurious lifestyle and told Virazahn never to speak to him again.[1]
Virazahn was one of Apyaahi's guests who joined her villainous group, the Passage of the Unbound. Apyaahi revealed the existence of sacred artifacts around Tural. These artifacts contain the essence of fearsome beasts called Tural Vidraal, and said that with the power of the artifacts they could achieve their goal.[2]
Under the guidance of their new allies, Virazahn disguised himself as a merchant and infiltrated a Hhetsarro village. During his stay, Virazahn persuaded Tepeke to tell him about the sacred artifact. Tepeke told him about the Perch of the Apex and that his father, Nettse, was the guardian of the treasure. With the information he needed, Virazahn attacked Nettse and stole the Perch of the Apex. With the artifacts in hand, Virazahn returned to Radz-at-Han so that he could become the hero he believed himself to be.
Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail[]
Virazahn called himself "Justiciar" and began making speeches in the smaller settlements in the region, promising to personally exterminate the beasts infesting the Thavnair jungle. After making a speech in Yedlihmad, Justiciar went out to face the beasts alone. A Radiant Host who overheard him could not let someone run the risk of facing a beast alone and followed him into the jungle. Justiciar came across a small creature, and tried unsuccessfully to activate the artifact's power. When the Radiant warrior drew his sword to protect Justiciar, the relic activated its power and dropped stones from the sky, killing the small creature and knocking out the Radiant. Justiciar distorted the situation and started saying that he had defeated a monster that had knocked out a Radiant Host.[3]
Virazahn visited his father and told him about his new allies and the power he had acquired. Virazahn stole maps and valuable materials from his father, and with the rare alchemical materials, Virazahn cultivated monsters to attack civilians and merchants so that he could save them. Justiciar quickly gained popularity, especially among young people.[1]
Justiciar sought out the merchant Zasshal in search of a map to open the way to Uznair. Zasshal took advantage of him and sold him all the maps he had, assuring that the one he needed was among them. Justiciar sent copies of the map to his followers to meet him in the canals. When a pair of thieves who had infiltrated brandished their weapons, Virazahn wielded the powers of the Perch of the Apex against them, wounding friend and foe alike. Virazahn made a grandiose speech, declaring his intention to become known as Radz-at-Han's greatest hero, before retreating behind a shower of stones, leaving the wounded behind.[4]
Virazahn appeared in public and made another speech declaring his intention to become king. Those present were perplexed by his performance, which was interrupted by the appearance of his father. The merchant begged his son to give up and surrender to the Radiant Host, but Virazahn unleashed the power of the treasure, dropping stones on his father. He left, declaring that he would soon challenge the Warrior of Light to a battle.[5]
The Radiant Host had organized an arena for the battle with Virazahn at the mountain pass towards Khadga. Tepeke had spread rumors about the location of the battle, and as predicted, Virazahn appeared. After a speech, Virazahn drew his bow. The Warrior of Light and Tepeke destroyed Virazahn's armor and defeated him. Virazahn tried to flee, only to be knocked down by a stone falling from the sky. The Radiant Host soon arrived to take Virazahn prisoner, and Tepeke recovered the relic stolen from her village.[6]
Characteristics[]
Appearance[]
A pale Thavnairian man with bright yellow hair and green streaks, he possesses olive-colored eyes and wields, and an Archeo Kingdom Bow. He wears Augmented Slipstream Mail, Gauntlets, and Breeches of Maiming respectively, and wears Augmented Torrents Boots of Scouting.
Personality[]
Virazahn is an arrogant glory-hungry charlatan with delusions of grandeur, believing himself destined to be as skilled and legendary as the heroes of stories he heard about during his youth. However, Virazahn is lazy, for instead of honing his skills and working hard, he used alchemical potions and powerful equipment to make himself look skilled and powerful. Worse, Virazahn has luxurious tastes, relying on his father to fund his lifestyle rather than earn it himself, leading his merchant father to be disappointed with his son.
Virazahn is naturally narcissistic, caring little for the well-being of innocents, even his admirers, and revels in the admiration they give him. He also possesses little, if no, self-awareness or sense of responsibility, and is seemingly ignorant that his own callous acts of harming his followers played a large part in ruining his reputation. He has a penchant for giving grand speeches, which, combined with his scheme to be seen as a protector, left a positive impression on younger Thavnairians, but older citizens saw through his act.
After stealing the Perch of the Apex and gaining its power, yet not understanding how to use the relic, Virazahn's arrogance and delusions worsen, thinking himself invincible and capable of making himself king. He believes himself capable in defeating the Warrior of Light in a duel, but after the Warrior and Tepeke gain the upper hand, Virazahn's bravado turns to panic, leading to a fear-induced breakdown and an inability to accept that he could defeated. After his armor is destroyed and the Apex recovered, Virazahn is humiliated and exposed for the fraud he is, leading to his arrest.
