Pashenine is a character in Final Fantasy XIV. He appears during the Wachumeqimeqi Deliveries for Fisher in the Dawntrail expansion.
History[]
Pashenine arrived at Fish Fancies Donuhanu in Tuliyollal on a crucial mission. As part of a rite of passage for his people, he sought a powerful fish to aid him in defeating a giant toad. His mastery of blue magic was still developing, and this trial was his chance to prove himself and bring honor to his community. Determined, Pashenine explained the importance of finding the right fish to exploit the toad's weakness, and despite his inexperience, he placed his trust in Donuhanu and the Warrior of Light to help him succeed.[1]
Pashenine was captivated by the fish before him, especially the sharp king puffer that Donuhanu suggested. To absorb its power, he explained that he needed to eat the fish whole, spines and all, as part of his blue magic training. After preparing and consuming the puffers, Pashenine felt their energy take root within him. Grateful for the help, he prepared to continue his journey, now stronger and more determined to face his trials.[2]
Donuhanu welcomed Pashenine's return and quickly offered a solution when the mage asked for a fish strong enough to face a stone-shelled tortoise. He suggested the Yok Huy pleco, famous for its tough scales, and was thrilled when the Warrior of Light delivered it.[3] Pashenine's cooking skills impressed him, but the real excitement came with the mention of the Qor pirarucu, a massive fish perfect for Pashenine's next test. The Warrior of Light managed to catch a large one, and Donuhanu was amazed by its size. Watching Pashenine prepare the fish, Donuhanu realized how valuable the mage's recipes would be for his business, drawing in more customers and boosting the shop's reputation.[4]
Having just digested his latest meal of fish, Pashenine knew the final test of his rite of passage awaited him. Though he would face it alone, he wished for Donuhanu and the Warrior of Light to witness his accomplishment. Pashenine's journey would take him to Uyuyub', where he planned to demonstrate the power of the phantasmic fish he had mastered. While Donuhanu and the Warrior of Light arrived early, it wasn't long before Pashenine appeared, proudly bearing the corpses of gargantuan beasts, all felled by his summoned fish. Donuhanu was ready to celebrate, but Pashenine revealed his hardest task yet: to defeat a carnivorous tree, a foe deadlier than any he had faced. His newfound confidence faltered at the prospect, but Donuhanu, unwavering, believed that every challenge had a corresponding fish. Donuhanu, driven by a desire to help Pashenine, impulsively set off to catch a Cenote Shark for the Whalaqee's final trial. Injuring himself in the process, he left Pashenine and the Warrior of Light to handle the deadly cenote shark, which the Warrior expertly caught. Grateful but puzzled by Donuhanu's reckless support, Pashenine learned that the fishmonger's passion for rare and misunderstood fish mirrored his own struggles to prove his worth. With the cenote shark in hand and his confidence renewed, Pashenine was now fully prepared for the final trial, backed by Donuhanu's unwavering belief in him.[5]
Later, Pashenine returned in defeat, disheartened by his failure to fell a carnivorous tree in his trial. The cenote shark he had used proved ineffective, and he couldn't imagine a fish that could match the beast's power. Donuhanu, ever supportive, reassured him and suggested a new course—catching the raging Hanuhead, a fish known to rejuvenate the spirit. With the Warrior of Light's help, Pashenine received six of these rare fish. Reflecting on his Whalaqee roots and the nature of the Hanuhead, Pashenine prepared a meal to restore his strength, hopeful once again for his final trial.[6]
After recovering his strength from the Hanuhead meal, Pashenine felt renewed and ready for his trial again. However, recalling how the cenote shark had failed him, he recognized that brute force alone wouldn't suffice against the carnivorous tree. Donuhanu and the Warrior of Light agreed that a new type of fish with arcane power was necessary. After much searching, Pashenine prepared for the ultimate test, wielding the fulmisturgeon, a fish charged with lightning energies. In a battle of both wit and strength, Pashenine triumphed, defeating the monstrous tree, and proving himself worthy in the eyes of his tribe. As the trial concluded, Pashenine reflected on how much he had grown since arriving at Fish Fancies Donuhanu. From a novice seeking guidance, he had become a confident warrior, mastering the command of both sharks and sturgeons. Grateful for the unwavering support of Donuhanu and the Warrior of Light, he expressed his deep appreciation.[7]
