Lightning is a character from Final Fantasy XIV who appeared exclusively during the limited time event Lightning Strikes to commemorate the release of Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.

Final Fantasy XIV producer, Naoki Yoshida, said the sidequest was tied directly into the Lightning Saga, but not linked with the lore and story of Final Fantasy XIV.[1]

Gameplay[]

Lightning is a rare type of character not functioning as any of the jobs in Final Fantasy XIV. She wields her iconic gunblade, the Blazefire Saber, and maintains her Commando fighting style and animations from Final Fantasy XIII.

Triple Triad[]

Lightning appears as a legendary (5-stars) card. It used to be the most powerful card with its total number of 36 (9 A 7 A) before Square Enix quickly decreased it to 27 (9 1 7 A) during an emergency server maintenance they had shortly after the Gold Saucer update.

Behind the scenes[]

Her Final Fantasy XIII attire, hairstyle, and weapon were available for players during the Lightning Strikes event. Currently, they are on sale in Online Store.

Though in appearance she looks like a Midlander Hyur, Lightning's character model is actually a special one, being her original model.

To date, two NPCs have reused Lightning's hairstyle: Ascian Igeyorhm, and a lalafellin woman from the Beauty Is Only Scalp Deep sidequest.

In the A Nocturne for Heroes event, Kipih Jakkya mentions Lightning if the player has participated in the Lightning Strikes event. In The Rising (2021) event, she also mentions a "visitor from another world" whether the player has completed any of the two collaboration events, referring to either Lightning or Noctis.
