Nerva yae Galvus is a non-player character in Final Fantasy XIV. He is the grandson of Solus zos Galvus, and the son of Titus yae Galvus and Arrecina wir Galvus. He is also the cousin of Varis zos Galvus.
History[]
Nerva yae Galvus opposed Varis at every turn. Following Solus's death, Nerva and Varis would engage in a civil war for the throne, with Nerva eventually losing and retreating to the provinces under his command. After the death of his cousin, with the loyalty of the IIIrd Imperial Legion, Nerva claimed the throne for himself, starting a civil war. The Telophoroi, however, would inflict incalculable ruin on Garlemald before his reign could begin, and the anguish of seeing the Empire unravel before his eyes was too much for him to bear. After Anima's death, Nerva turned into a blasphemy, a mockery of an emperor driven by the desire to seize that which was denied him. He stalked the Tower of Babil, hungry for power he would never possess, and attempted to use Varis's heart to repower it. The Grand Company of Eorzea, accompanied by Nero tol Scaeva, stormed the Tower of Babil and put Nerva to rest.[1]
Personality[]
Little is known of Nerva yae Galvus. However, it can be assumed he was a patriotic Garlean. He was described as having loved the Empire and sought to bring it lasting glory. Nerva was also ambitious though Nero did scornfully describe Nerva as being hungry for glory, desiring to make a name for himself that would be remembered. Without an official successor, Solus's death left a vacuum of power at the throne, with Nerva being one of the contenders to the throne and fighting Varis in a civil war for it.
While Nerva himself had no aptitude for military combat in comparison to his rival, he had a close relationship with the Legatus of the IIIrd Imperial Legion, Vergilia Corculum, who supported his bid for the throne and would be saddened when she learned of his fate.
Upon returning to Garlemald and seeing the capital city, as well as the empire, brought to ruin, his despair turned him into a blasphemy driven by his ambitious dreams and a desire to rule over what was left of Garlemald. Whatever sense of self Nerva possessed would be utterly consumed by the blasphemy he would become with only vague traces left.
Behind the scenes[]
Nerva's blasphemy form is identical, save for coloring, to Therion, the final boss of the dungeon Amaurot, in Shadowbringers.
