~ Gabe pleading with Zoey and his villainous breakdown. |
Gabe Miller is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Turn Me On Take Me Private". He is a man who became obsessed with a webcam exotic dancer named Zoey Carrera.
He was portrayed by Alex Brightman, who also portrayed Betelgeuse/Beetlejuice in Beetlejuice: The Musical and Teen Titans Go!, Adam and Sir Pentious in Hazbin Hotel, the Watcher in Dead End: Paranormal Park, and Robo Fizz in Helluva Boss.
Biography[]
Past[]
Gabe worked as a certified paralegal.
He became obsessed with webcam exotic dancer Zoey Carrere - or, rather, her online persona, "Kendra" - and grew to believe that they had a romantic relationship. He sent her gifts and paid more money for her videos, willfully ignoring the fact that Zoey thought of him only as another customer. Gabe tried to find out where she lived, but the site owner denied his request out of concern for Zoey's privacy.
However, Gabe found a way by recommending a care facility to Zoey after she told him about her ailing father during a webcam session. From this, he discovered her real name and address, giving him free roam to stalk her. He even made a shrine to her on his wall.
"Turn Me On Take Me Private"[]
During one of Zoey's cam sessions, Gabe breaks into her house while wearing a mask and proceeds to handcuff and rape her. He calls her by her cam persona and tells her that she knows she likes it before escaping. Many of the viewers think it is part of the show, but one in particular knows Zoey always works alone and reports the assault to the NYPD's Special Victims Unit.
SVU Detectives Fin Tutuola, Amanda Rollins, and Kat Tamin question several of Zoey's subscribers, eventually talking to Gabe. He admits he broke into Zoey's apartment, but he claims that they had planned together to perform a fake rape scene to drive up her click-thru rate. The detectives search Gabe's apartment, where they find a shrine he constructed dedicated to Zoey and arrest him.
While he is being interrogated at the SVU station house, Gabe insists that he and Zoey are in a relationship before abruptly asserting his right to privacy. He then reveals that he is a certified paralegal and will not answer any further questions. Eventually, he agrees to plead guilty to sexual assault in return for a reduced sentence.
When he appears in court, however, he refuses to plead guilty, declaring that he did not do anything wrong and that he will represent himself. He promises to abide by the restraining order against him, but he is nonetheless able to exploit a loophole in the discovery process in order to harass Zoey. He ends up violating the restraining order by visiting her ailing father.
During the trial, Gabe introduces Zoey's webcam recordings in order to discredit her in the eyes of the jury. In response, Assistant District Attorney Dominick Carisi Jr. calls in Zoey's other subscribers as witnesses, who all say that they knew Zoey's webcam performances were just fantasy and that they never tried to find out where she lived, adding that it would be sick and crazy to do so.
As Carisi intended, their testimony makes Gabe angry and jealous, so he calls Zoey as a witness once again as an attempt to prove that she has genuine feelings for him. He reads her replies to the other users' comments aloud and demands that she confirm she wrote them before the judge orders him to move on. Gabe then shows his comments, and demands that Zoey reply to them, but she refuses. Enraged, Gabe screams at Zoey, whom he calls "Kendra", to tell him she loves him, until the judge orders the bailiffs to remove him from the court. As the bailiffs take him away, Zoey yells after him that he does not really know her and that she did not want what he did to her. Breaking free of the bailiffs, Gabe accuses her of leading him on and tries to attack her until he is once again detained and dragged out of court, literally kicking and screaming. His pleas echoing through the halls, leaving everyone disturbed. This ultimately exposed him as the obsessive and delusional person he really is.
In the end, his lawyer stepped in and Gabe is ultimately sentenced to seven years in prison for burglary, stalking, harassment, and rape.
