~ Quadri taunting Olivia Benson. |
Saliyah "Sunny" Quadri is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Dirty". She is a corrupt D.A. Investigator who sets up the murders of a colleague and two informants in order to steal three million dollars in drug money.
She was portrayed by Shohreh Aghdashloo, who also played Gozer in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Stefania Vaduva Popescu in Grimm, Bellafrancesca Lobo in Renfield, and Khaevis in Damsel.
Biography[]
A twenty-five year veteran of the Brooklyn District Attorney's Investigative Office, Quadri is working on a case when she witnesses her friend and colleague, Assistant District Attorney Page Ferguson, fall to her death off the roof of a parking garage. She sees that Ferguson's body is covered in razor cuts and shows signs of sexual trauma, so she calls the Special Victims Unit. She tells Detective Olivia Benson that she suspects that Angel Rivera, the leader of the Latin Kings gang whom Ferguson put in prison, ordered her death.
After medical examiner Melinda Warner autopsies Ferguson's body, however, she says that the cuts were self-inflicted and that her death was likely a suicide. Quadri vehemently rejects the notion that her friend had killed herself, even as she admits that Ferguson had been depressed after undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer and getting into an abusive relationship.
Benson talks with Quadri's supervisor, who says that she and Ferguson had been suspected of stealing drug money seized during Rivera's arrest. Benson then finds out that Quadri tampered with surveillance footage of Ferguson recorded just before her death, and arrests her for evidence tampering. Quadri admits to stealing the tapes, but claims that she only took them to make sure none of her colleagues were involved in Ferguson's murder.
Benson locates two of Ferguson's confidential informants, Lakeisha Watkins and Damon Merced, but they are both gunned down before she can interrogate them. she then questions Quadri's partner, Sean Riggs, who turns out to have been Ferguson's abusive boyfriend. He denies taking the money, but says that Rivera's girlfriend Gina visited him right before the murders of Watkins and Merced. After Benson and ADA Christine Danielson threaten to send Gina, who is pregnant with Rivera's child, to prison, Rivera tells them that he had the informants killed after Quadri sent him their location. In return, he let her keep his drug money.
When Benson goes to Quadri's apartment to arrest her, Quadri says that she is entitled to the money because she has spent her whole life locking up criminals, with nothing to show for it but a dead-end career and a non-existent personal life. She then says that Ferguson had found out about the money and told her to turn herself in and give it back. Quadri threatened Watkins and Merced with prison unless they tortured and killed Ferguson, while she drove to the site just moments before Ferguson's death to give herself an alibi. Quadri then takes an axe to her wall, revealing that she hid the money in her apartment's crawl space. As she is taken into custody, Quadri spitefully tells Benson that she will end up like her one day.
