The Kangaroo is an ally of the Yoshis who appears in certain levels of Yoshi's Island DS. It is used as a vehicle, even being classified as such in the instruction booklet, but is the only one to be a living creature. Kangaroos are only found in a specific area of a level.

The Kangaroo has a large pouch on the front that a Yoshi can climb into. The Kangaroo can bounce around very high, allowing a Yoshi to collect several coins that are otherwise unreachable due to how high they are. The Kangaroo can also briefly float in midair if the player holds the button, similar to Princess Peach's ability from Super Mario Bros. 2.
