Glide Guys Take to the Skies is the sixth level of World 1 in Yoshi's Island DS, an Orange Yoshi takes control in this level. Like Hit the M Blocks!, this level is shown to take place at night once again retaining a good view of the sea. This level utilizes Baby Peach's wind-floating abilities and primarily involves utilizing the wind to reach greater heights, this level also has several Glide Guys which also utilize the wind and marks the debut of the Baseball Boys as well as the Koopa Troopas in this game.

Walkthrough[]

Starting off the level, advance to the right and use the wind to fly skyward to the ledge above (going right is also an option but you will miss some key collectibles if you do) whilst avoiding the Glide Guys, there is a Stork Stop here, you can use this to switch to Baby Mario to hit the M Block (and grab the Coins by it) to grab the nearby Baby Coin and the Red Coin by it. After this, immediately switch back to Baby Peach as you will be needing her for the rest of the level, glide upward from here to reach the top ledge above the Baby Coin and toss an egg at the hovering Winged Cloud to earn yourself a 1-Up. Continue to the right and grab the Coins along the path of the right ledge, drop down to grab the rest of the Coins, next defeat the Piranha Plant on the Pipe and then enter it to reach the underground cavern, this underground cavern has several Coins along the bottom and heaps more stashed at the top, use the wind to glide up to the higher ledge, there are also two Fly Guys in this room and one is holding a Red Coin, either toss an egg at this Fly Guy or swallow him or the Red Coin to obtain it. Upon collecting all the goodies, hit the Egg Block to fill your egg supply then exit through the Pipe.

Upon reaching land, use the wind to reach the Smiley Flower in the air and advance to the left and grab the two Red Coins above the Pointeys, next, move on back to the right and hit the Winged Cloud to activate the wind, there is a Stork Stop and Egg Block to the right, you can use these to switch out to Baby Peach (if you haven't already) and grab some eggs and then glide up to the upper ledge, from here, dispose of the Pointey blocking your path and use the wind to glide even higher (this wind periodically stops so be sure to glide with it when it blows), after this grab the Red Coin in the Coin line and advance to the left ledge and hit the Winged Clouds to grab some Coins and a Smiley Flower. After this, move to the right and fill your egg supply with the Egg Block, you will encounter a turf of Green Gloves and Sluggers (the Baseball Guys from Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3), these guys will either toss your eggs back at you or bat them away and they can hit you if you get to close to them so be careful. They can be defeated with either three stomps or a ground pound. Some rare Yellow Yoshi Eggs and Red Yoshi Eggs are also found here, you can use the eggs to hit the five hovering Winged Clouds above, most of these Winged Clouds contain Coins, Stars, or 1-Ups but the one on the far end contains a Smiley Flower (using the Baseball Guys egg-tossing abilities also works to hit the Winged Clouds but their chances of hitting the clouds are lower than yours, be sure to also hit the Fly Guy holding the Red Coin above as well. After this, advance to the right and use the wind to reach the ledges, the left ledge leads to a Stork Stop and a vine which leads to a room with a huge stash of Coins (there is nothing you can do about this room on your first visit as you need Baby Donkey Kong's climbing abilities to reach this room but feel free to come back here once you unlock him by beating Baby DK, the Jungle King!, don't worry, there are no Red Coins or Smiley Flowers in this room), next advance to the right and use the wind (when it activates) to glide to the next area.

Upon reaching the higher skies, tag the Middle Ring and you will come across a Morph Bubble, hit it to transform into the Yoshi Helicopter. Fly around the room collecting the stashes of Coins in the skies as well as in the niches whilst avoiding the Cloud Drops be sure to search every niche as there are plenty of Coins in this room, this area contains seven Red Coins and one Smiley Flower, there is also a Winged Cloud at the bottom lefthand niche which contains a 1-Up, once you're done, tag the Yoshi Block to transform back into normal Yoshi and continue onward.

Back along the main path, in the next room, you will encounter some Koopa Troopas walking along the path, swallowing a Koopa Troopa will allow you to use it's shell as a tossing tool for plowing through other foes, stomping on a Koopa Troopa will eject it from it's shell making it susceptible to attacks. Advance to the right and either use the Plaform Wheel to reach the other side or flutter there grabbing the Coins and three Red Coins along the path (as the distance is close enough to reach the other side with some flutter jumps) (below the platform is a flooring with several Piranha Plants and Shy Guys but these can easily be disposed of), the next Smiley Flower is on a "cheese" block platform by a Paratroopa, grab it and continue onward, move down and continue to the right beating the Shy Guys along your path, move to the path's end to grab a couple Coins and then move back to where the wind is and glide skyward grabbing two Red Coins in the Coin line, then advance to the left on the platform to grab the Coins and hit the Winged Cloud for some Stars, next advance back to the right and use the wind to fly to the ledge, after this use the next wind gust you see to glide upward grabbing the last of the Red Coins, the GOAL! Ring should be in sight now but before going to it, drop down and hit the ! Switch and drop down to grab the Coins that appear (and swallow any Shy Guys that emerge from the Pipe for some eggs), after grabbing the Coins fly back up to the high ledge where the GOAL! Ring is and jump through it to finish the level.

Baby Coin Location[]

You will need Baby Mario for this Baby Coin, near the beginning of the level, use the Stork Stop on the first ledge to switch to Baby Mario and hit the M Block on the neighboring platform to make a Flower Plant grow, climb up the plant and jump to the niche to grab the Baby Coin.

Enemies Encountered[]

Trivia[]

  • Despite this level having many Stork Stops by the wind gusts, there never really is any need to use them as Baby Peach is required for virtually the whole level.
