Pirate Guys are a semi-recurring variant of Shy Guy. They are pirates often found traveling the seas on a Shy Guy Galleon. They first appear in Yoshi's Story. Regular Shy Guys wearing pirate outfits can be ambiguously interpreted as Pirate Guys, or at least as an alias.
Physical description[]
Pirate Guys appear the same as Shy Guys except they wear a pirate bandana on their head. In Yoshi's Island DS, the color of the bandana varies between either red, blue, yellow, or light green. Pirate Guys generally wear a red robe like regular Shy Guys, but were each given a white robe in Yoshi's Island DS, allowing for further distinction.
In Yoshi's Story[]
They only appear in one level, Shy Guy's Ship, and are equipped with Bob-omb cannons, Bill Blasters, and several other utilities for offense against the Yoshis.
In the Mario Party series[]
A pirate Shy Guy in Flagging Rights in Mario Party 8
One Shy Guy wearing a captain's hat appears in two minigames, Shy Guy Says and Flagging Rights, which debuted in Mario Party and Mario Party 8 respectively. In both minigames, the Shy Guy raises either a red flag or a white flag. As either minigame progresses, the Shy Guy begins to fake pulling out either a white flag or a red flag to trick the characters. Whoever holds the wrong flag or does not raise a flag with the Shy Guy is eliminated from the minigame. In Shy Guy Says, when a character is eliminated, the Shy Guy cuts a rope of the barrel that they are in, causing that character to drift off into the sea. In Flagging Rights, a different Shy Guy not wearing any pirate gear cuts a rope that kept the character on the plank, causing them to fall into the ocean.
Pirate Guys also make an appearance in Mario Party 2, on the Pirate Land board. Here, if a character lands on a Happening Space on a bridge, Pirate Guys shoot cannonballs at the character, causing them to fly off back to the start of the board.
In the Mario Kart series[]
Pirate Guys are featured in the Shy Guy Beach course, introduced in Mario Kart: Super Circuit. Here, a few of them are seen sailing on a Shy Guy Galleon in the background, and they shoot explosive cannonballs onto the course. In Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Pirate Guys additionally appear in Koopa Beach 1.
In Yoshi's Island DS[]

They appear on ships or rafts in World 3. Pirate Guys of each four bandana colors first appear in the level The Goonie Coast Isn't Clear!. They stack themselves on top of each other, but otherwise do not act much different than regular Shy Guys, and can be defeated using the same methods.
