“ | A Rathian so mighty, it was crowned an Apex. It is eternally possessed by wrath and terror, possibly due to the myriad wounds that cover its body. Its tail oozes a venom far deadlier than any of a normal monster. The call of an Apex unleashes its tortured anger on nearby beasts, driving them into a frenzy. | „
Apex Rathian is an Apex Variant of Rathian introduced in Monster Hunter Rise.
Physiology[]
Apex Rathian is extremely similar to a Dreadqueen Rathian, having multiple red scars on her body and red eyes. The eyes and scars glow bright red when enraged. Her teeth are a lot sharper than a normal Rathian, and her wings and legs have either new or bigger spikes. Furthermore, similar to the Dreadqueen, her tail has much bigger spines than normal.
Abilities and Behavior[]
Just like her male counterpart, Apex Rathian is exceptionally brutal, ferocious and aggressive, and will attack anything on sight. She has largely the same attacks as normal Rathian but with a few alterations from other Rathian's form. She can also impale poisonous spikes onto the ground, which will release a cloud of Venom, a more powerful version of poison. She may perform diagonal tail strikes, while her roar is much more ear-piercing and louder, and can drive monsters into a panic
When enraged, she will do a dangerous triple tail swipe attack that will do heavy damage and spread multiple spikes.

In-Game Description[]
Hunting Tips[]
“ | An angry Apex Rathian will trigger a devastating move, spraying poisonous thorns in all directions, creating toxic fields wherever they land. Push on against an enraged Apex to quickly rid of its rage and steady its temper | „
Notes[]
General Notes
- Apex Rathian will appear in random 6 star rampages upon unlocking High Rank.
- Her roar is based off of a frenzied Rathian, while its color, tail, spike usage, and attacks are based off a Dreadqueen Rathian.
- Unlike Dreadqueen Rathian, however, several of the tail strike attacks can throw out venom spikes, but never release poisonous cloud.
- After the first Title Update, Apex Rathian can be encountered in Quests outside of Rampage Quests after HR40 is obtained.
- Poison constantly seeps from her tail. If the tail is severed, the tail itself will not show poison, but what's left of her tail on her body will still spew poison.
- Apex Rathian was voted 177th place in the Hunters' Choice for Top Monster during Monster Hunter's 20th Anniversary.[1]
