- "The Multiverse didn't need me to intervene, Peggy. It just needed you."
- âWatcher to Captain Carter[src]
Captain Margaret Elizabeth "Peggy" Carter is a Strategic Scientific Reserve agent during World War II. When Steve Rogers, the original candidate for Project Rebirth, was wounded by Heinz Kruger, Carter disobeyed John Flynn's orders and received the Super Soldier Serum, and became the first successful super soldier. Being given the rank of Captain and donning the colors of the Union Jack, she led the Allied forces against HYDRA and Red Skull as Captain Carter. As Red Skull attempted to use the Tesseract to summon the Champion of HYDRA, Carter led an assault on HYDRA stronghold and her sacrificing herself to stop the Champion, going through a wormhole.
While it seemed like only moments to her, Carter returned to Earth to find nearly seventy years had passed, and that the war had ended. A woman out of time, Carter joined the Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D., but mourned the loss of Rogers, who she believed to be dead. When on a mission with Natasha Romanoff to retake the Lemurian Star, Carter was summoned by Watcher alongside several others to defend the Multiverse from Ultron. Afterwards, Carter was returned to her home reality, where Romanoff informed her that Rogers' Mark I HYDRA Stomper Armor had been found with someone inside it.
Discovering that Rogers was still alive, Carter learned that he had been brainwashed by the Red Room and worked alongside Romanoff to free him from their control. However, Rogers seemingly gave his life to destroy the Red Room once and for all. Soon after, Carter was suddenly summoned to an alternate 1602 by their Scarlet Witch in order to save their reality. She learned that the Steve Rogers of their time was a temporal anomaly that was causing mysterious rifts that threatened to destroy their universe. While reluctant, Carter was forced to part ways with Rogers once again for the greater good, becoming trapped in 1602 in the process.
In the aftermath, Carter was approached by her former teammate Strange Supreme and tasked with locating a supposed universe-killer that had escaped his Sanctum Infinitum. However, after apprehending Kahhori, Carter learned that Strange was planning to sacrifice powerful beings from across the multiverse to his Forge in order to resurrect his destroyed universe. Carter partnered with Kahhori to stop him, with Strange ultimately sacrificing his life to the Forge in order to save them from it and bring his universe back. The Watcher commended her heroism and brought her back to her home reality, although they took the scenic route. Carter maintained a relationship with the Watcher, who introduced her to the Hero of the Multiverse.
Biography[]
World War II[]
Attack on SSR Brooklyn Facility[]
Peggy Carter brought Steve Rogers to the Strategic Scientific Reserve Brooklyn Facility to prepare for his transformation. Prior to his presentation, she was asked by Abraham Erskine if she would be comfortable in the booth. Having a loving glance at Rogers, she chose to stay, with the other people present doing the same. As Erskine began the presentation, Heinz Kruger, getting nervous at the number of people present, decided to detonate his explosive earlier. Carter became suspicious as she noticed the explosive planted by Kruger, yet she was unable to stop him before the resulting explosion caused the deaths of several people, including Erskine. After he shot Chester Phillips dead, Kruger tried to escape with the vial of the Super Soldier Serum, but Carter came in and shot him, killing him.
Carter came to Rogers' aid, who was wounded after he got shot by Krueger. With the power to the Rebirth Pod depleting, John Flynn ordered Rogers to get back into the chamber, but Carter claimed that he was unable to do it. As Flynn argued with Howard Stark, to whom he insisted to go into the chamber, she made the choice to undergo the experiment in Steve's place. Carter then grabbed the vial and rushed to the chamber.[2]
Arguments with John Flynn[]
- "I was promised an army. I was promised peace and salvation. Instead, I get a girl."
"I understand this is not the desired outcome, but I can be more than a human pin cushion." - âJohn Flynn and Peggy Carter[src]
Against all odds, the procedure was a success as Carter emerged fully transformed into a super soldier, visibly taller and stronger. Despite the Super Soldier Serum working on Carter, John Flynn was angered, claiming that women did not belong on the front lines and thus refused to allow Carter to fight, much to her anger and disappointment.[2]
Training[]
- "Nice left hook."
"Not according to Colonel Flynn, that weapons-grade moron!" - âSteve Rogers and Peggy Carter[src]
Carter began training to become a soldier. One time, she was training with Steve Rogers right beside her and she punched a bag over and over until it detached from the chain and was flung against the wall.
Rogers told her she was getting better at this and would make a great combat machine, but Carter, who was still angered by John Flynn's words, disagreed, used her foot to flip a weight into her hand, and threw it with great force and precision against the wall, where many other weights were already lodged in. Rogers joked that it could be worse and that Flynn could try to put her in a suit and sell war bonds, which Carter took seriously. Some soldiers passed by the window marching, which reminded Rogers about his friend Bucky Barnes fighting without him.[2]
Howard Stark's Gift[]
- "Your covert skills need work."
"Then this is gonna be awkward." - âPeggy Carter and Howard Stark[src]
At a bar, Carter was drinking when Howard Stark suddenly appeared. Stark joked about how British people were supposed to be resilient, when suddenly he handed Carter a box. Carter opened the box and found a suit with the colors of the Union Jack what was supposed to be her USO uniform, but upgraded by Stark. He then put a matching hefty shield over the table. Carter saw her reflection on the shield and smiled.[2]
Capture of Arnim Zola[]
- "Wh...Scheisse!"
"Exactly." - âArnim Zola and Captain Carter[src]
Carter, now wearing her new suit, went on a mission to retrieve the stolen Tesseract and capture the scientist Arnim Zola. She waited on top of a building watching a fleet of HYDRA trucks and motorcycles slowly approach. When one of the motorcycles got close enough she threw her shield, knocking the two men off and sending them sprawling. The shield came back to her hand and she jumped down off the building.
The truck in the lead tried to run her down, but she used her shield to flip the truck. She then gave it another go and flipped one more. Men streamed out of the trucks and off the motorcycles but she took all of them down easily. As the remaining men tried to take her down, one last man emerged and quipped that the United States of America were sending a "fragile FrÀulein" to fight for them. She responded that she was far from fragile and took him down in three punches. She opened the rear of his truck and found Zola, so surprised that he cursed, to which Carter responded, "Exactly."[2]
Liberation of Allied Prisoners of War[]
Carter and Steve Rogers discussed the last intel report to determine the whereabouts of Bucky Barnes and the Howling Commandos after being captured by HYDRA. After telling Rogers that he owed her a dance, Carter went to the mission. She stole a HYDRA soldier's motorcycle to get to the place and break the outer fence. After fighting a bunch of soldiers, she made it to the cells, where she met Barnes. She broke all of them out of the prison and exited the place, only to run into even more soldiers and tanks.
They hid behind some dirt and Carter requested to her forces they send air support. Much to the group's surprise, Rogers came flying wearing the HYDRA Stomper Armor: Mark I that Howard Stark had built. Together, Carter and Rogers fought the remaining HYDRA forces. Everyone started to cheer for Captain Carter, to which she said they should wait until the victory parade. Together, they went on several missions against HYDRA throughout Europe to disrupt their operations.[2]
Losing Steve Rogers[]
- "If our intel is correct and the Red Skull, the very head of HYDRA, is on that train..."
"We can end the war?" - âCaptain Carter and Bucky Barnes[src]
Carter would rejoin Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes, along with a few other men went on a mission to infiltrate a HYDRA Train that supposedly Red Skull was in. Barnes, his men, and Carter saw the train and took a Zip-Line Gun to land on it.
Rogers, in the HYDRA Stomper Armor: Mark I, went inside of one of the wagons, and with horror realized there were only detonating explosives inside. These then started to explode, which most of the group saw and was able to jump off the train safely. However, as soon as they were off, the ground underneath the train collapsed and set off an avalanche. Rogers was lost in the snow, which filled Carter with sadness.[2]
Attack on Castle de Krake[]
- "I have to. I can end this."
"You owe me a dance lesson."
"Yes, Saturday night." - âCaptain Carter and Steve Rogers[src]
Having lost Steve Rogers and the Tesseract, John Flynn became very mad and disappointed, and started arguing with Howard Stark about how what he said about the Tesseract and the HYDRA Stomper Armor: Mark I. In the midst of the desperation, Carter went up to Arnim Zola's cell. Zola, while not surprised by being visited by her, initially was not willing to tell anything, but he eventually complied. He told her that Red Skull was planning to use the Tesseract to unleash an Interdimensional Force and use it as a weapon of mass destruction. He also told her that HYDRA was planning to do this at Castle de Krake in the Black Forest. After telling her group, they went to the location to face Red Skull.
At the castle, Carter jumped over one of the walls to open the main door for the others. After fighting a whole lot of soldiers, the group had to split, leading Carter to go with Stark. However, they eventually found out that Red Skull had already opened the wormhole to allow the Champion of HYDRA through. The monster, not following HYDRA's command, crushed Red Skull to death, leading Carter and Stark to think of a plan. They noticed the panel control, which Stark could use to reverse the suction of the portal.
Carter began fighting the beast, using a sword from the wall, however the creature was overpowering her. When Stark figured it out, the portal began to suck the beast in, as Carter tried to resist its clutches. Then, Rogers in the HYDRA Stomper armor and the Howling Commandos arrived and helped Carter, until the beast roared loudly, stunning them. Rogers had to get them out of the castle to safety. The beast was trying to keep the portal by holding it open, to which Carter decided to start pushing it to the wormhole, even though it meant entering the portal herself. Rogers tried to help, but his suit became powerless quickly. Rogers exchanged with Carter his last words before she entered the portal and it closed.[2]
New Life[]
Back on Earth[]
- "Where's Steve Rogers?"
"The war ended almost seventy years ago. You going to be okay?"
"Of course... we won the war." - âCaptain Carter and Nick Fury[src]
Carter was transported out of the portal created by the Tesseract and landed in the year 2011 at the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility. She was met by Nick Fury and Clint Barton who were monitoring the Tesseract. Immediately, Fury told her to put down the sword. Barton then recognized her as Captain Carter and told Fury. As Carter asked the whereabouts of Steve Rogers, Fury told her that the war ended almost seventy years ago.[2]
Battle of New York[]
- "You go high, I go low?"
"Or we could just punch him a whole lot." - âCaptain Carter and Black Widow[src]
During her time in the modern world, Carter joined S.H.I.E.L.D. and met Natasha Romanoff. They soon formed a bond and became best friends. Carter was also saddened to learn that Steve Rogers died in 1953. In 2012, Loki invaded New York City with the Chitauri. Carter helped form the Avengers, consisting of her, Romanoff, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Wasp and Loki's brother, Thor.
While fighting the chitauri, Carter displayed her combat skills, telling Romanoff she learned it in Berlin. Romanoff displayed her own, saying how she had a weird childhood. The Avengers then met up and Carter told Hawkeye and Wasp to get high ground while Iron Man and Thor help below. Carter then turned to Romanoff and told her they were taking a ride. Carter then leapt up onto a Chitauri Chariot and made her way to Stark Tower where she met up with Romanoff in front of Loki. Carter asked if she should go low while Romanoff went high, but Romanoff said they should just punch him. The two lunged at Loki, defeating him.[3]
Retaking the Lemurian Star[]
By 2014, Carter had made a bigger name for herself at S.H.I.E.L.D. and made even bigger friends with Black Widow. On a sunny morning, Carter found Romanoff jogging outside the Washington Monument and pulled over, telling Romanoff to get in as they had a mission.
Carter and the STRIKE team were tasked with infiltrating the Lemurian Star, hijacked by Georges Batroc and liberate the hostages. Carter gave a debriefing in the Quinjet while she joked with Romanoff. She then gave instructions to Brock Rumlow and the STRIKE operatives and ordered to launch a mission. Beforehand, Romanoff teasingly told Carter that Bernard was asking about her but Carter replied that she was not interested, as she still could not let Steve Rogers go.
Carter jumped out of the Quinjet and landed on board of the Lemurian Star where she took down several pirates, before being confronted by Batroc himself. Batroc mocked Carter, saying that she could not compete without her shield, so Carter put the shield away and engaged with Batroc in the close combat. Despite Carter's super soldier physiology, Batroc was able to keep up the fight due to her martial art skills. Suddenly, Carter witnessed Watcher appearing in the sky behind Batroc's back, which startled her, although Batroc did not react to it. The Watcher told Carter that she had been chosen for his cause, so he transported Carter out of her universe.[4]
Guardian of the Multiverse[]
Recruited by the Watcher[]
- "You have been chosen... for a mission that is both highly dangerous and absolutely necessary for the continuation of life as you know it."
- âWatcher to the Guardians of the Multiverse[src]
Carter was brought to a pub, along with Star-Lord, Gamora, Erik Killmonger, and Thor. She was familiar of that location, including a portrait of Steve Rogers hanging on the wall. Strange Supreme informed Carter that he had recreated the pub from her memory, so she could adapt to the situation quicker. Watcher explained to Carter and the others that an AI, known as Ultron, was threatening to wipe out all life in the entire Multiverse, in the name of bringing peace. As Ultron was nearly unstoppable because of the Infinity Stones, the Watcher and Strange made a decision to put together a team of the most remarkable individuals from various universes, proclaiming Carter and the others the Guardians of the Multiverse, the last hope for all universes.
Although initially, the Watcher's words were made with skepticism, Carter and the others eventually agreed to take Ultron down. Gamora suggested to use the Infinity Crusher to destroy the Stones and strip Ultron of his powers, so Carter and the Guardians made a plan to lure Ultron into the trap and fight him. The Watcher brought the group to the deserted planet.
Whilst conversing, Carter also asked Strange about her counterpart in the other universe, to which Strange replied that in his universe, Steve Rogers successfully received the Super Soldier Serum and became Captain America. The group then made a toast to the Guardians of the Multiverse. In excitement, Thor let out a lightning strike, alerting Ultron of their location.[4]
Battle for the Multiverse[]
- "We're from another universe. Universes. We're here to stop Ultron. I can prove it. Your father is Ivan. Your da's Alexei. And you're the one woman I trust to have my six, including now. There are three people you trust in the universe, and I count myself lucky enough to be one of them."
- âCaptain Carter to Black Widow[src]
In preparation for battle, Strange Supreme supplied the Guardians of the Multiverse with a protection spell. This spell came in handy as Ultron immediately caused the cliff to collapse on top of Carter. Carter grabbed onto Star-Lord, who flew who towards Ultron. She then was supplied with a spell on her shield, allowing her to create a damaging strike to Ultron.
She then watched as T'Challa attempted to grab the Soul Stone, only to be sent flying. Carter ran to T'Challa, who in fact did get the stone. They then reconvened with the group as Strange opened a portal to Ultron's universe. Arriving in the new universe, they immediately found another version of Black Widow. Carter tried to calm the confused Romanoff down and said how Romanoff's father is Ivan Romanoff and her dad is Alexei Shostakov. This convinced Romanoff.
Suddenly, Ultron arrived and the group went back to work. Carter charged at Ultron and struck at his legs while Romanoff struck at his head. She then fought Ultron and was knocked down. On the ground, she saw the Soul Stone but was unable to grab it. She got a second chance, but just when she went to grab it, Ultron activated the Time Stone, stopping Carter mid-air. He then grabbed the soul stone and applied it to his armor.
Doctor Strange started attacking and the two went head to head. Eventually, they got Ultron on the ground and Gamora used the Infinity Crusher. Much to their surprise, the crusher destroyed the stones in her universe, as each universe was different.
Therefore, the Guardians assembled and started fighing again. Suddenly, Romanoff got an idea. Under Romanoff's orders, Carter ran to Ultron and jumped on him. Romanoff then shot an arrow at Ultron as Carter lifted up his helmet. The arrow hit Ultron in the eye, injecting Arnim Zola into Ultron's conscioussness. Zola then defeted Ultron. Much to the group's surprise, Erik Killmonger suddenly took Ultron's armor, wearing it himself.
Killmonger then activated the stones and set off an explosion. Carter and Romanoff took cover as Arnim Zola stood up in Ultron's body, wanting the armor himself. Carter recognized Zola immediately and Romanoff explained HYDRA never died. Zola and Killmonger then fought over the stones, allowing Strange the opportunity to trap them in an orb for eternity, which he did. The Guardians then stood triumphant.[4]
No Happy Ending[]
- "It's time to go, Captain. You'd rather return to another time."
"Haven't I earned my happy ending?"
"Trust me, that world, that time, needs Captain Carter." - âWatcher and Captain Carter[src]
The Guardians of the Multiverse went back to Whip & Fiddle where Watcher thanked them for their efforts. He then opened a door for them to return to their respective universes. Carter looked at the photo of Steve Rogers and looked back at The Watcher, asking if she had deserved her happy ending as she wanted a world with Rogers. The Watcher simply told her that her world needed Carter. With that, Carter stepped out the door.[4]
Reunion with HYDRA Stomper[]
Returning to Her Universe[]
- "I found what the pirates were after. Peggy, you might want to brace yourself."
"I can promise you, Nat, this won't be the strangest thing I've dealt with today." - âBlack Widow and Captain Carter[src]
Transported back to the moment she left her universe, Carter was caught off guard by Georges Batroc and knocked down, before he was electrocuted by Black Widow. Relieved to see her Widow, Carter proceeded to embrace her, leading her friend to question if she sustained a head injury, which she cryptically answered without explicitly referring to her multiversal adventure.
Romanoff then proceeded to show Carter what the pirates were after and cautioned that she might be in for a shock, though Carter believed that nothing could surprise her after her recent experience. As she took a peek inside a cargo container, she was surprised to see the HYDRA Stomper armor. Furthermore, Romanoff stated that someone was still in there.[4]
Carter looked at the armor in awe until the armor started lighting up red. Black Widow grabbed Carter and lunged out of the way as a blast came through the steel doors. Romanoff remarked how it was more like Robo-Cop, much to Carter's confusion at the pop culture reference. The duo rushed through the Lemurian Star, dodging HYDRA Stomper's missiles. HYDRA Stomper then flew up into the air to get momentum. As it came rushing down, Carter threw her shield at the enemy, unveiling it's mask. As the enemy flew by, Carter could clearly see that it was actually Rogers in the suit.
Before Carter could process, what she had seen, HYDRA Stomper shot missiles at her. Carter and Black Widow ran through the ship and jumped into the water, narrowly missing the missiles as they sank in the water. The two then made it out safely as the HYDRA Stomper left.[3]
Attack on the Triskelion[]
- "I'm Peggy Carter, and we're talking about Steve Rogers."
"Even if only one tenth of those rumors are true, it still makes the Stomper the world's most dangerous killer." - âCaptain Carter and Nick Fury[src]
Carter angrily went to Nick Fury's office in the Triskelion. She called Fury out for lying to her about Steve Rogers' death. Fury tried to assure her that he did not lie as he was unaware of this information. He did reveal that there had been rumors of Rogers' survival. Carter got angry she was not debriefed on this and wanted to go find Rogers despite Fury and Natasha Romanoff saying that Rogers is responsible for many awful acts.
Later, Carter saw HYDRA Stomper arrive at the Triskelion and jumped in front of Secretary Bucky Barnes just as the Stomper shot at him. As Carter helped escort Barnes to the stairs, she asked him for information as the Tesseract was not powering the suit. Barnes revealed that after the war, they changed it to plutonium and pomade. Suddenly, Rogers crashed through the bottom of the staircase. Carter jumped at him and the two began fighting in the air as they crashed through walls, forcing Carter to slip from Rogers' grasp.
Carter then ran up the stairs and made her way to Barnes. As HYDRA Stomper aimed at Barnes, Carter leapt at him and the two fought once again. HYDRA Stomper flew high up in the air with Carter on him. Carter soon lost her grasp and threw her shield at the Stomper, temporarily disabling the suit. As Carter found herself in a free fall, she grabbed onto Rogers and guided them into Black Widow's Quinjet. They then left Washington, D.C.[3]
St. Kilda[]
- "We don't have time for Banner and Stark to play mad scientist. After today, every government on the planet is hunting Steve."
- âCaptain Carter to Black Widow[src]
The group finally arrived at a lighthouse in St. Kilda, Scotland as Black Widow explained it was a safe house. They soon set up shop in the lighthouse. Romanoff did some tests on HYDRA Stomper, only to conclude that the armor was the only thing keeping Rogers alive. The two ended up having a drink as Carter concluded they should go to the Red Room to confront Rogers' enthrallers.
Suddenly, Rogers woke up forcing Carter and Romanoff to stand their guard. Much to their surprise, Rogers was lucid and greeted Carter, asking for their date. Rogers eventually flew in front of the group as he led them to the KGB Sokovian Base, under the Red Room Academy.[3]
Losing Rogers Again[]
- "I don't wanna fight you. This isn't us. I am done fighting, Steve. I've been fighting for so long. To end the war. To forget what I lost. I'm, I'm tired."
- âCaptain Carter to HYDRA Stomper[src]
Arriving at the KGB Sokovian Base, the group noticed the creepy aesthetic as Black Widow explained that it was supposed to mimic an American town. As the sun set, Steve Rogers and Carter stood at a gazebo and talked about their experiences. Carter revealed that she never had sat down and had a life even though Bucky Barnes did just that.
Suddenly, the American mannequins all set up in front of the duo, revealing their hidden guns. Carter hopped on HYDRA Stomper's back as Rogers flew at the enemies, destroying them. Carter then went back to back with Rogers as they blocked incoming attacks until Romanoff arrived. Suddenly, Rogers' armor was disabled, so Carter ran at him, only to be pummeled by incoming Widow Bites. This caused her to lose consciousness.
Carter woke up only to see the Red Room Academy looming ominously above her. Carter and Romanoff then faced the Black Widows as Melina Vostokoff walked towards them. The Widows then fired upon Carter, forcing her to flee as a now enthralled Rogers fought as well. Carter went head to head with Rogers and tried to get high ground by leaping onto the water tower. Rogers soon fired upon her, causing the tower to collapse. Carter jumped off just in time.
Carter and Romanoff hid again until Carter got the right moment to strike Rogers. The two fought some more until Rogers opened fire, forcing Carter to shield herself from the many rounds. She eventually charged forward towards Rogers so she could get close. Carter then removed Rogers' mask and gave herself up, saying that she was done fighting him. Rogers, with his missiles ready to fire, looked at Carter, who surrendered herself.
Carter told Rogers she wanted to be with him, which made Rogers wake up from his trance. He stepped back and let his guard down before he started thinking. Carter realized what Rogers was going to do and begged him not to, but Rogers made up his mind. He then flew up at the Red Room Academy and shot at it before flying through it, causing the academy to explode and collapse into pieces witn Rogers seemingly along with it.
Carter watched in agony at Rogers' sacrifice, but ran over to Romanoff, shielding her from the debris. The two then ran away from the destruction.[3]
Saving a Dying Universe[]
A New Mission[]
- "I thought I'd go out. It's Friday night, after all."
"Without saying goodbye?"
"Steve's out there somewhere. And I know you don't believe he can be saved, but I do." - âPeggy Carter and Natasha Romanoff[src]
Days later at Avengers Tower, Carter walked over to Tony Stark's car, planning to leave. However, she was stopped by Natasha Romanoff. Carter claimed she was going out for a Friday night. Romanoff at least wanted a goodbye and Carter explained that she knew Steve Rogers was out there somewhere. Suddenly, a red portal appeared below Carter and sucked her through.
Carter was transported to 1602 in another universe and looked up to see Sir Nick Fury and Wanda-Merlin standing over her with Maximoff stating that Carter would save their queen. An annoyed Carter called for Watcher to intervene.[3] Once she calmed down, Carter learned that the universe she was sent to was dying and she was summoned to stop it.[5]
Death of the Queen[]
- "Sorry? You speak to me of "sorry"? My sister is gone, lost to the storms that are tearing our world apart. The storms the Scarlet Witch summoned you to stop. But they've only grown stronger each day. She is cursed. Seize her."
- âThor to Captain Carter[src]
Having lived in 1602 for a few weeks, Carter attended Globe Theatre to watch Loki's play of Hamlet. Suddenly, a rift opened, forcing Carter into battle at the order of Sir Nick Fury. As Loki was sucked into the portal, Carter lassoed him with a rope, causing him to fall into his arms.
Suddenly, Queen Hela was sucked up by the rift. Carter leapt up to her, using the rope to stop her from going into the rift. She grabbed Hela's hand, only for it to slip, killing Hela. Carter fell to the ground and looked up to see Thor pick up the Scepter as he was crowned king. Grief stricken, he ordered the Einherjar to arrest Carter as she had been failing to do what she was summoned for. This forced Carter on the run. She grabbed Yorick from Loki and fought her way out.[5]
Soldier on the Run[]
- "A king marred by loss. A soldier on the run. A world on the brink of oblivion. The year is 1602. She is Captain Peggy Carter. But how does a time-displaced super-soldier end up in such a strangely familiar reality? The sad truth is that there are worlds among the Multiverse simply meant to die. But every once in a while, a glimmer of hope can emerge."
- âWatcher[src]
Carter ran through the city, using roofs as her platforms. She then hid behind a chimney as she heard Watcher narrating her troubles.
She spoke up, telling The Watcher she could hear him, much to Uatu's confusion. Uatu told Carter she did not belong here and did not know anything of the universe. Carter then explained that two years of 1602 and 2018 are stuck together, causing the rifts. Despite this, Uatu held out his hand, planning to take Carter home. Carter refused to do so.
Carter then got to the Royal Hall and eavesdropped on Wanda-Merlin, explaining to King Thor that there is an unknown Forerunner who is causing the universes to be stuck due to their slipping through time. They decided to find the Forerunner, which Carter decided to do. Sir Nick Fury, who knew Carter was behind him, told Carter to do this as well.[5]
Finding Another Steve Rogers[]
- "It cannot be. This must be some trickery or a ghost. For my Maid Margaret passed to the other side many moons ago."
"I'm dead in this world? That's great." - âRogers Hood and Captain Carter[src]
The next morning, Carter arrived at Tony Stark's barn and woke him up with a pale of water. She then showed him Yorick, which had green particles on it, which gave off energy. Carter explained that she believed the Forerunner would give off the same energy as the rifts. Carter asked Stark if he could trace the energy, but Stark explained that there was not enough power even though he heard the Scepter carried enough power. Therefore, they concluded they needed someone to steal it.
Carter arrived in the woods and found the Avengers, consisting of Rogers Hood, Winter Soldier and Ant-Man. Rogers became astonished when he laid eyes on Carter as she looked like his late Maid Margaret Carter. Upon hearing she had died, Carter was happy, only to switch up, telling Rogers that was terrible news. Suddenly, a carriage came rolling at them. Carter pushed Rogers out of the way and landed on top of him, nearly getting intimate.[5]
Reunion Cut Short[]
- "My lady, I will not abandon you here."
"Getting the scepter is all that matters. You need to trust me. Go. Find Stark. I'll be right behind you." - âRogers Hood and Captain Carter[src]
The group went to a restaurant placed in the forest where Rogers Hood and Carter began to talk about their lives. Rogers then asked if there were another Steve Rogers in her universe and asked what he was like. Carter told him that she will not tell him as it was still a hurt part of her heart. Carter then asked for Rogers help and Rogers agreed as that was what his Margaret Carter would have done.
Suddenly, a Royal Yellowjacket landed on Carter's mug followed by an army. The group started fighting the Yellowjackets led by Sir Happy Hogan. Carter and Rogers soon teamed up as Carter used a sword and Rogers used her shield. They continued fighting until the Yellowjackets abruptly retreated. Ant-Man believed they won, but his celebration was short as Destroyer started shooting.
The Destroyer destroyed the treehouse, leaving only the Avengers looking upon the Einherjar. Carter told Rogers to get to Tony Stark. He obliged as he trusted her plan. Carter then went head to head with the Einherjar, but was captured as they were too much for her.[5]
Helped by the Monster[]
Carter was brought to the Tower of London where she was planned to be executed by Red Skull. In her cell, she was greeted by Watcher, who offered her a way out. He tried to reason with Carter, only for the super soldier to still refuse an easy way out. She then broke free and made her way down the hall until she found a door.
She was happy to be correct in her assumption that Bruce Banner was in there. Carter tried to get him to help her, but he refused. In a last ditch effort, he called the guards over, forcing Banner to hulk out. She then hitched a ride on his back as Hulk leapt out of the prison and into the night.[5]
Storming the Castle[]
Carter arrived at Tony Stark's barn and the two helped Bruce Banner recover. They were then met by the Avengers and created a plan to get the Time Stone to place it in Stark's invention to reveal the Forerunner. This plan would involve storming the Royal Hall.
Arriving at the Royal Hall, the group dressed up to blend in. Suddenly, a rift emerged in the hall. Just then, Hulk came running in signaling to start the plan. As commotion started, Carter approached King Thor, who grabbed the All-Father from his guards in order to use it against Carter. Carter started fighting the Asgardian and kept up with the powerful Odinson.
However, he started getting mad and caught Carter's kick. Just as he planned to finish her, Wanda-Merlin intervened and attacked her king, allowing Carter to go. Carter then stood by Stark as he managed to get the Time Stone and insert it into the invention. Even though it took longer than expected, the machine worked. Carter then placed her hands in it to reveal the Forerunner.[5]
Soldier Stuck in the Past[]
- "It never gets easier. We never get our happy ending."
"I'm sure somewhere out there we do." - âCaptain Carter and Rogers Hood[src]
The whole room started glowing green as Rogers Hood started glowing green, revealing that he was the Forerunner. As Rogers' memories came back, he explained that in 2018, he struck the Time Stone while fighting Thanos, which sent them all to 1602.
Realizing Carter was right, Thor ordered her to do what she was summoned for. Afraid to lose Rogers, Carter hesitated to press the button to save the universe. Rogers assured her it would be okay. Carter was saddened as she exclaimed it never gets easier and they will never get their happy ending. Rogers tells her that there must be some universe out there where they do. She then pressed the button, sending everyone home.
Carter then stood in the empty Royal Hall having saved the universe, but leaving herself alone. SHe made her way to a pub where she sat and heard a portal opening. She told Watcher that she was not in the mood for him. However, she looked up to see that it was actually Strange Supreme who was there. The two talked as Strange explained that he needed her.[5]
The two talked some more as Strange remarked how Carter was getting tired of the time period. He then summoned some malt for them to drink despite it being a few years too early for the beverage. Carter then asked if he could give her a ride home. Strange gladly agreed, saying that he would do anything for the Guardians of the Multiverse. They then stepped into his "office", which was the Sanctum Infinitum.[6]
Helping a Friend[]
Hunting a Prisoner[]
Carter was immediately struck by the rustic nature of the Sanctum Infinitum and relayed this to Strange Supreme, who revealed he was not there all alone as he had been busy. He then showed her the many prisoners stuck in orbs on his walls, explaining that they are all beings who wanted to destroy their universes, but Strange captured them.
Strange then asked for help, as one of the beings escaped and he needed Carter to get them. However, Carter just wanted to go home. She also talked about how she knew Watcher would not be happy with her meddling. Strange eventually convinced her to help as she had saved the world in 1602 when she was not supposed to.
The two walked over to the Rotunda of Gateways where Strange opened it to another universe, saying how he lost the prisoner's trace there. Right before going in, Carter asked by Strange could not do it himself. He stated that the prisoner knew him so she would know that he was there. Carter then asked how she would know who the prisoner is. Strange told her that she would know right away.
Carter walked into the barren world to find Mount Rushmore National Memorial replaced by Red Skull. She was then annoyed to hear The Watcher behind her. Carter asked if he was there to help or judge. The Watcher simply told her that in that universe, HYDRA's destruction of Project Rebirth was successful, meaning there was no super soldiers, allowing HYDRA to win the war.
The two then argued about The Watcher's purpose, with Carter sticking up for Strange as he is watching and acting so he serves a purpose; The Watcher just watches. Before disappearing, The Watcher told Carter to be careful as he could not bare to narrate what happened next. Suddenly, Carter saw a blur of blue running around her.
Carter then got pushed from behind then knocked off her feet by the prisoner. Carter then studied the prisoner's movements and threw her shield at a calculated angle, which hit the prisoner. She then threw it again, but the weapon was caught by the prisoner. She peacefully gave the shield back to Carter and explained that her name was Kahhori and Strange was lying to her. Suddenly, a portal opened up beneath them and they were sucked back to the Sanctum.[6]
Strange Supreme's Truth[]
- "Oh, come on, Peggy. You know you'd do the same thing for Steve!"
"I would never do this for Steve. And Steve Rogers wouldn't want me to. The cost is too high." - âStrange Supreme and Captain Carter[src]
Once in the Sanctum Infinitum, Strange Supreme started blasting Kahhori, thanking Carter for her work. As Carter tried to ask Strange what the deal was, Kahhori explained that Strange was not just getting "universal killers", but also "righteous heroes" to feed to the Forge. Strange tried to convince Carter she was lying, but Kahhori explained further that he was trying to use the energy from the prisoners to resurrect his universe.
Carter then realized that Strange was trying to get Christine Palmer back. Strange confirmed this, claiming that Carter would do the same for Steve Rogers. Carter thought for a moment, but then jumped in front of the blasts, saying that she would never do that for Rogers.
Strange stopped and calmed down. Carter said that she would not do it because Rogers would not want her to. The price was too high. Strange responded that in the grand scheme of things, its a small price to pay. He then tried to blast Carter, despite her pleading for him to stop. She ran around the blasts and tried to hit Strange only to find he had a forcefield protecting him. Thinking of something else, she looked at all of the prisoners and threw her shield, breaking the orbs and causing them to escape.
Carter then grabbed Kahhori and the two agreed to stop the Forge before Strange fed the prisoners to it. Kahhori then grabbed Carter and started running, allowing Carter to utilize her super speed as well. They found a big corridor full of a prison riot. Carter admitted that this was maybe not her best idea. They then ran some more around the hallways of the sanctum until they were stopped by a red glow.
The group looked on and saw zombie Wanda Maximoff. They fought Maximoff and the zombies until they all stopped and turned green. Confused, the duo looked and found Hela controlling them. Hela was interrupted by Surtur, allowing Carter and Kahhori to escape the skirmish. They were stopped once more by Thanos, who grabbed Carter's shield.
However, Thanos was abruptly killed by none other than Erik Killmonger with the Infinity Armor. Kahhori quickly disposed of him, leaving the armor and Infinity Stones behind. Carter then grabbed the stones and they put themselves onto her, making Carter very powerful. They then made their way to the Forge.
At the Forge, they faced off against Strange. Carter threw her shield, only for it to do no damage. They then fought Strange, until Kahhori told him there were more of them then there were of him. Therefore, Strange cast a spell to duplicate himself. Seeing this, Carter did the same, causing many Stranges to fight many Carters. Carter then had her duplicates jump at Strange, only for Strange to single out just her, destroying the duplicates.
Strange then put Carter in an illusion of Project Rebirth. In the illusion, Carter and Rogers walked towards Abraham Erskine, who asked if Carter would be more comfortable in the booth. Carter hesitated, but Rogers told her to stay with him. He then told her that they could finally be together. Carter got sad then noticed a butterfly in the distance, she then realized it was an illusion. Strange revealed himself and punched Carter, only to be surprised by Carter catching his punch and throwing one back, destroying the illusion.
Strange then started the Forge, causing many beings to fall into it, despite the women duo trying to stop it. Even though she was blocking an attack, Carter activated the Time Stone, which stopped all of the victims from falling. She was then interrupted by Strange, so she tried to use the Power Stone despite Strange still overpowering her. When all seemed lost, the prisoners started throwing their weapons at Carter and Kahhori to help. Carter was able to grab Hela's Crown and Hulk's Sword and Axe. The two then overpowered Strange, causing him to lose control over his inner demons.
They blasted Strange as he started taking on a demon appearance. In the scuffle, Carter lost control on the Infinity Stones, but she still knew she needed to stop him. She then jumped in the air as Kahhori used her telekinesis to give Carter the Infinity Stones. With a fist full of stones, she punched Strange, causing all of the demons that he absorbed to pour out of him. Carter tried to find a way to stop the Forge, but Strange's grief was too strong. He absorbed the demons again and charged at Carter.
Carter took the full force of the tackle, which sent them both over the edge into the Forge. The two fought in the air until Carter jumped off of Strange back onto the edge of the cliff. Now hanging for her life, she watched Strange fall into the Forge, dying. Carter soon woke up with The Watcher by her side.[6]
New Missions[]
Taking the Scenic Route[]
Carter looked and saw she was in the Nexus of All Realities. Carter then finally saw where Uatu does all of the watching. The two then went to the new resurrected universe that was created by Strange. They saw Christine Palmer at the park as Uatu explained that Strange's actions created a new universe without him in it. The Watcher then said that the Multiverse did not need him to intervene, it needed her.
The Watcher then reached out as a butterfly landed on his finger. He asked if she was ready to get back to her universe. Carter was very ready but wanted to take the scenic route home. The Watcher was glad to hear this request and unveiled how the Multiverse looked like. Carter was then returned to her world.[6]
Recruiting the Hero of the Multiverse[]
- "Watcher, if you keep this up, you're gonna to have to start to do employee evaluations. Well then c'mon hero, we have a Multiverse to protect."
- âCaptain Carter[src]
Later, Carter was contacted by Watcher as there was someone he would like her to meet. Carter then saw the Hero of the Multiverse and understood what Uatu wanted of her. She tested their skills by throwing her shield at them, which the hero caught. Impressed, Carter told the hero to join her as they had a Multiverse to protect.[7]
Personality[]
- "You've always been a fighter. In a way, the outside finally matches the inside."
- âSteve Rogers to Peggy Carter[src]
Carter is very confident and brave, showing as she stepped in to receive the Super Soldier Serum without hesitation. She is also easily discouraged as shown when John Flynn told her that they wouldn't have "a girl" fight for them. Peggy likes a good fight and visibly enjoys being Captain Carter. She can sometimes be menacing, as shown as when she started to push the Champion of HYDRA back into wormhole the Tesseract had created, and when she angrily asked Nick Fury where Steve Rogers was after she was teleported to the 21st century. Carter deeply cares for her loved ones as she mourned Rogers after he was caught in the avalanche. She seems not to be remorseful of the ones she kills, as she is used to it.

Captain Carter displayed the ability to briefly release a sudden bubble of time to reverse the flow of time within the Sanctum Infinitum.
- Soul Manipulation: As the temporary wielder of the Soul Stone, Captain Carter would've wielded the power to control and manipulate the souls of others. However, she never actively displayed any usage with the Soul Stone itself likely due to the danger that the stone could pose in critically harming or otherwise damaging Strange Supreme.
- Mind Manipulation: As the temporary wielder of the Mind Stone, Captain Carter would've wielded the power to control and manipulate the minds of others. However, she never actively displayed usage of the Mind Stone likely due to the power that Strange Supreme held which would've rendered the properties of the Mind Stone unnecessary or otherwise useless.

Trivia[]
- Captain Carter is partially based on the alternate version of Peggy Carter who became Captain America after being injected with the Super Soldier Serum, who first appeared in the video game Marvel Puzzle Quest as part of the celebration for Captain America's 75th Anniversary[8][9]. The character was later introduced in the Marvel Comics as well, as a member of the Exiles[10][11].
- A different version of Captain Carter was introduced to the comics in March 2022.
- Certain elements of Captain Carter's origin, particularly disappearing while stopping HYDRA from summoning an interdimensional creature instead of being cryogenically frozen, also resemble Samantha Wilson, who serves as Captain America in Earth-65.
- Her Uniform and Shield consisting of the Union Jack is reminiscent of the mantel of Captain Britain, who's title was taking up by various individuals, one of the earliest known individuals to take up that mantel is Brian Braddock.
- Prior to being injected with the Super Soldier Serum, Carter was 5'7ft tall (or 170cm) and weighed 150 pounds.
