Spider-Man 4 is an upcoming superhero film, based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. The film is a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, Spider-Man: Far From Home, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.[3] It is the fortieth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the third installment of Phase Six. The film is set to be released on July 24, 2026.[2]

On June 26, 2016, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman Tom Rothman announced that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios were committed to making more Spider-Man films after Spider-Man: Homecoming.[4]

On August 20, 2019, Deadline reported that a fourth Spider-Man film was in development alongside Spider-Man: No Way Home.[5]

On November 29, 2021, Amy Pascal confirmed that Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios were set to begin development on a fourth Spider-Man film. She revealed that more Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland and set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be developed and that the fourth Spider-Man film would be the first in a new trilogy.[3]

On December 18, 2021, Kevin Feige officially confirmed that a fourth Spider-Man film was in active development.[6]

On December 21, 2022, Sony Pictures Motion Picture Group chairman and CEO Tom Rothman confirmed that the film was still in development.[7]

On February 14, 2023, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige revealed that the film's story had been completed and that writers were beginning to pen the film's script.[8]

On May 31, 2023, in an interview with Variety, Amy Pascal revealed that the development of the film had been paused due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike and that the film would resume development after the strike was resolved.[9]

On July 19, 2024, in an interview with io9, Kevin Feige revealed that the film's writers would be delivering a draft of the film's script "relatively soon".[10] The next day, in an interview with CinemaBlend, Feige revealed that Jon Watts would likely not be returning to direct the film due to his busy schedule.[11]

On September 9, 2024, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Destin Daniel Cretton would be directing the film and that Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers would be writing the film's script. It was also stated that the film was expected to begin production in early 2025.[1]

On October 22, 2024, during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Tom Holland revealed that the film would begin production in Summer 2025.[12]

On October 25, 2024, Variety reported that the film would be released on July 24, 2026.[13] That same day, Sony Pictures confirmed the release date.[2]
