In the late 1980s, it was rumored that She-Hulk would appear in the television film The Death of the Incredible Hulk, but that did not happen. Around that same time, a television series centered on the character was planned for ABC, but the project was eventually declared dead.[2]

In the early 1990s, Larry Cohen was set to direct and write a She-Hulk film with Brigitte Nielsen cast as the title character. Although Nielsen had posed for promotional photos dressed as the character, the film was scrapped and never happened.[2]

On August 23, 2019, at D23 Expo 2019, Kevin Feige announced that Marvel Studios was developing a limited television series centered on She-Hulk for Disney+.[3]

In November 2019, it was reported that Jessica Gao had been tapped to serve as the head writer of the series.[4] Gao had previously met Marvel to give pitches for Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Marvels,[5] and stated that her idea for Black Widow was downright outed by Brad Winderbaum as "She-Hulk movie with Black Widow in it".[6]

In December 2019, Kevin Feige revealed that the series was expected to wrap production in late 2020.[7]

On September 15, 2020, it was reported that the series would begin production in February 2021 in Atlanta.[8] That same day, Deadline reported that Kat Coiro was in negotiations to direct several episodes of the series, including the pilot, and that she would serve as an executive producer of the series.[9]

On September 17, 2020, Deadline reported that Tatiana Maslany had been cast as the title character in the series.[10]

On October 15, 2020, in an interview with The Sudbury Star, Tatiana Maslany denied that she had been cast as She-Hulk saying: "That actually isn’t a real thing and it’s like a press release that’s gotten out of hand. It’s totally not — I’ve been connected to these things in the past and press has gotten onto it, but it’s not actually a thing, unfortunately."[11] However, showrunner Jessica Gao had confirmed Maslany's casting in September.[12]

On November 20, 2020, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the series would begin production in March 2021 under the working title "Libra"[13] alongside Moon Knight.[14]

On December 10, 2020, during Disney's 2020 Investor Day, Kevin Feige confirmed Tatiana Maslany's casting as She-Hulk. He also announced that Mark Ruffalo and Tim Roth would be reprising their roles as Hulk and Abomination, respectively, in the series.[15]

On January 3, 2021, it was reported that the series' first season would consist of more than six episodes and that production was scheduled to begin on March 29.[16]

On January 11, 2021, in an interview with Collider, Kevin Feige revealed that the series' first season would consist of ten episodes.[17]

On January 19, 2021, Deadline reported that Ginger Gonzaga had joined the cast of the series and that she would portray Walters' best friend.[18]

On March 3, 2021, it was reported that the series was scheduled to start production on April 12 and wrap on August 30 in Atlanta under the working title "Clover".[19]

On April 9, 2021, Deadline reported that Renée Elise Goldsberry had joined the cast of the series and that she would portray Amelia.[20]

On April 10, 2021, it was reported that the series had begun production in Los Angeles.[21]

On June 10, 2021, Variety reported that Jameela Jamil had joined the cast of the series and that she would portray Mary MacPherran/Titania.[22]

On July 21, 2021, Deadline reported that Josh Segarra had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role.[23]

On August 18, 2021, Monique Ganderton revealed that the series had wrapped production.[24]

On May 17, 2022, it was announced that the series had been retitled from She-Hulk to She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, that the series would premiere on August 17, and that Benedict Wong would be reprising his role as Wong in the series.[1]

On May 31, 2022, it was reported that Griffin Matthews had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed recurring role.[25]

On July 7, 2022, it was reported that Amie Doherty had composed the series' score.[26]

On July 23, 2022, at San Diego Comic-Con 2022, the series' second official trailer was released and it revealed that Charlie Cox would be reprising his role as Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the series.[27]

On August 3, 2022, it was announced that the series' premiere was pushed back one day from its initial premiere date to August 18.[28]
