Biography[]
Early Life[]
Son of a Serial Killer[]
Daimon Helstrom and his sister Ana were born to Victoria Helstrom and a demonic serial killer named Marduk Kurios. Daimon attended school where Louise Hastings taught, although he often got distracted during Bible studies classes.[3] Although the family moved around somewhat often, their final place ended up being the one which felt most like home. His father would help Helstrom with his homework and take him to his Little League games whenever he was home.[4] One time, Daimon swung from a branch using a rope, pretending he was Tarzan. However, the branch snapped, knocking the wind out of Daimon.[3]
Kidnapping of Ana Helstrom[]
Marduk Kurios decided he was going to bring Ana Helstrom to torture and kill several people with him,[3] and Helstrom and Victoria Helstrom found him trying to burn her. They demanded he let go, and he eventually did and Ana ran.[5] Ana hid in a corner in the basement while Helstrom attempted to defend her. However, Marduk used a special dagger to wound Helstrom, who laid on the floor panting in pain.[3]
Marduk went to stab Helstrom again, but he pushed the dagger out of his father's hands, causing it break in two. Marduk picked up one half and walked toward his daughter.[4] Helstrom watched as Marduk pushed his mother, Victoria Helstrom, to the ground and approached Ana.[3] Ana eventually returned to them, and while they remained in contact, she always kept Helstrom at arms' length, never discussing with him what happened while she was with their father.[6]
Sending His Mother Away[]
- "Mom? I have to tell you something. You're not gonna like it, but I need you to know..."
- âDaimon Helstrom to Victoria Helstrom[src]
Victoria Helstrom was marked for possession during the kidnapping, and started to lose her sanity fighting against Kthara for control. Helstrom became worried for her, so he called the Behavior Health Department to ask them to help her. He went upstairs and asked his mother to eat something, so the two ate dinner together. He prepared Ana Helstrom's favorite dish, upsetting Victoria when he explained that he had not set a place for Ana since she would not be returned. Victoria lashed out, scaring Helstrom, and decided to save her food for her daughter, folding it into a napkin.
Helstrom began to tell her about the call he made, but the Behavior Health Department interrupted him, knocking on the door. Victoria rushed to the door, thinking it was Ana, and Helstrom rushed after her, apologizing for what he had done. Daimon as Dr. Meyer arrived, asking to talk to her. Victoria insisted that she could not leave, until she realized that Helstrom was the one who called them. Helstrom watched her mother get taken away, as another member of the department closed the door on him.[7] He began experiencing night terrors.[8]
Feeling guilty about his sister getting taken and being the person who committed his mother, Helstrom rode his bike to St. Johns Bridge. He looked down the bridge as he heard his family's words in his head from the day Ana was taken. He brought himself to the other side of the bridge and jumped off. However, when he was about to hit the water, he felt himself stop, before his father stopped his fall and assured him that he would always be his son. He then released Helstrom, who fell safely into the water.[5]
After her mother was sent to Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, Helstrom received power of attorney, splitting the family's money to take care of himself, Ana, and Victoria Helstrom.[9] Helstrom came to feel guilty about having his mother committed, developing a sense of need to protect her.[7] Helstrom himself was evaluated at Saint Teresa's, and Louise Hastings took him in while his sister was sent into the foster care system.[8]
He was met with bullying at school, as kids continually made fun of him. Overwhelmed, Helstrom used demonic powers, which he did not know he had, to throw the boys and several objects across the room, setting a backpack on fire. Hastings came up from behind him, realizing that he also had abilities. He broke down crying, and Hastings comforted him. He called himself a monster, and Hastings told him that there was no such thing and hugged him.[4] He continually met with his mother, eventually determining that he could help her regain control of her body by telling her about a happy childhood memory.[10]
Family Reunion[]
Archer Cavallo's Exorcism[]
Daimon Helstrom was contacted by email sent to exorcise Archer Cavallo, and found Gabriella Rosetti talking to Cavallo's father. Cavallo led Helstrom and Rosetti inside the house and attempted to introduce them to his wife, who expressed her apathy while holding a bottle of alcohol. Rosetti explained Archer's symptoms, and Helstrom went upstairs looking for him after getting water from the restroom. He told Rosetti and Cavallo not to follow him into Archer's room. He sensed the lack of demonic presence in Archer's bedroom and then entered, aware that he was faking.
Cavallo chanted in Latin, and Helstrom responded sarcastically. Cavallo tried to demand food, although Helstrom doused Cavallo in water from the bathroom, claiming it was holy water. Cavallo began writhing in pain and pretended to have been saved until Helstrom revealed the ruse. Helstrom attempted to make Cavallo admit his deceit to his parents, apologize, and clean his bedroom, although Cavallo tried to get Helstrom to leave. Cavallo attempted to punch Cavallo, although Helstrom stopped him and ignited a fire using his demonic abilities, which convinced Cavallo to listen.
As Helstrom left the Cavallo house, Rosetti and Cavallo's parents demanded to know what happened. Helstrom explained that Cavallo was lying and mocked the Cavallo's parenting techniques. Helstrom defends himself, explaining that his time was wasted and that he cannot offer emotional support. Rosetti explained that the Cavallos simply wanted hope, but Helstrom said that everybody is. He then gave a suggestion for driving back as he left.[3]
Visiting Mother[]
The next day, Helstrom taught about Lawrence Kohlberg's stages of moral development, when he found Louise Hastings outside of his lecture hall. Although he was temporarily distracted, he resumed and finished his lesson.
After class, Hastings apologized for distracting Helstrom, and they joked about his tendency to get distracted as Hastings' student. Helstrom complained about Gabriella Rosetti's lack of experience, although Hastings defended Rosetti and asked him to give her a fair chance. Helstrom explained that he wanted to continue working with Hastings, although she suggested telling Rosetti that demons truly existed, which Helstrom refused to do. Hastings then told Helstrom that Kthara had orchestrated an escape which resulted in the death of a security guard. Helstrom told Hastings that he would be covering the guard's funeral expense and walked away from Hastings.
Helstrom went to Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, where Ellis showed him and Gabriella Rosetti footage of Spivey visiting Kthara before breaking out the two patients. Helstrom told Rosetti that the patient being visited was his mother, Victoria Helstrom, although he refused to allow Rosetti to enter his mother's room with him. He entered the room and told her a story about when he was younger in order to coax out his mother. However, it did not work, so Helstrom confronted Kthara about the symbol she showed Spivey to manipulate him, and Kthara refused to cooperate, so Helstrom left, frustrated.
Helstrom told Rosetti and Hastings what happened with Kthara, and Rosetti began asking questions which Helstrom could not answer, causing Helstrom to get annoyed. Rosetti asked to see Helstrom's mother alone and verify that it isn't theater, which offended Helstrom as Hastings verified that Kthara was indeed dangerous. Rosetti became frustrated with Helstrom, so she left to write a report for Archbishop Terrazi. Hastings scolded Helstrom for his treatment of Rosetti, and Helstrom admitted to treating her poorly. Hastings listed Rosetti's merits, and Helstrom expressed his disappointment in not being able to help his sister, who had sworn to never return to Portland. Hastings said it might be better that way, causing Helstrom to leave, upset. In his car, he texted his sister, who didn't respond. He went to a tattoo artist and attempted to get a tattoo, although his skin immediately healed whenever she tried. He told her to keep trying as he reflected on his sister's kidnapping.[3]
Feeling Remorse[]
The next day, Helstrom returned to the Cavallo Residence, where he watched Archer Cavallo and his father go into the father's car together. While watching them, he called Gabriella Rosetti to apologize for the way he treated her the previous night, although she did not answer. Helstrom reflected on his behavior while Cavallo and his father got into the car.
He returned to Gateway University, where he had his students taking an exam and wrote the symbol he found in Kthara's room on the wall repeatedly. He stayed long after the test ended, although the paper interrupted him when it suddenly got consumed in a fire. He returned to Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, where Louise Hastings told him that Rosetti had stolen her ID badge and visited Victoria Helstrom. Hastings and Helstrom ran into her room and found Kthara attempting to kill Rosetti. Helstrom attempted to exorcise Kthara to no avail. However, his mother managed to resume control of her body long enough to warn Helstrom and the others to flee, which they did, despite Helstrom's desire to be with his mother.
Helstrom and Hastings explained demons to Rosetti, and Helstrom then explained the meaning of Kthara's ideogram - "consumption." Rosetti commented on Kthara's nature, and Helstrom simply reminded Rosetti that she was the one who wanted to learn about demons. He drank the alcohol that had been poured for Rosetti and left.[3]
Reunion with Ana Helstrom[]
- "I thought maybe you might have softened over the years, but no, you're incapable of that."
"And you're incapable of moving on." - âDaimon Helstrom and Ana Helstrom[src]
Helstrom went to his Jeep, when he found that Ana Helstrom had take a trip to Portland. Ana asked Helstrom for confirmation that their mother was dead.[3] Helstrom took her to a local restaurant, where they briefly discussed Ana's love of biscuits, and the two ordered their meals. Ana explained to Helstrom that she was there because him reaching out likely meant that their mother's health condition was worsening, which Helstrom confirmed, expressing hope that they could exorcise Kthara together. Helstrom tried to convince her, although Ana complained about their mother's apparent favoritism toward Helstrom. Annoyed, Helstrom asked for the true reason for Ana's visit, and was told that she wanted to talk to her mother in case she really was dying. Ana revealed that she wanted Helstrom to grant her alone time with their mother, and Helstrom was hesitant to do so, although he eventually allowed it.
However, Ana recklessly attempted to coax out their mother, eventually slapping her. Helstrom arrived at Saint Teresa's and scolded her, ignoring Gabriella Rosetti as he passed her. Ana tried to defend herself, but the two continued to argue. He nearly compared Ana to their father, prompting the argument to get worse. Their combined powers began shaking one of Hastings' coffee mugs, causing her to get nervous. She stopped their fighting and yelled at both of them, and Rosetti explained that a man had been possessed and needed Helstrom's help. The two left, as Helstrom told Hastings to keep their mother sedated and Ana not to go near her.[10]
Exorcism of Alex Tilden[]
While Helstrom and Gabriella Rosetti drove to help Alex Tilden, Rosetti asked about Helstrom's sister. Helstrom explained that she did not have the same nurturing environment growing up as him. Rosetti also asked about the source of their demonic powers, which Helstrom explained was their father, who was worse than Kthara. Helstrom attempted to explain to Rosetti that prayer would not help exorcise anybody, and Rosetti posed a theory that if a person was a man of faith, then prayer might work, despite Helstrom's protests. He asked whether Rosetti was up to the job of stopping real demons, and Rosetti explained that she had already seen the worst of humanity while working with the Talitha Kum.
Helstrom and Rosetti arrived at the site of the car crash, where they met with Father Sean Okamoto. Okamoto explained that when he tried to deliver Tilden's last rites, the demon possessing Tilden bit the priest and attacked him with a car mirror. While Okamoto explained that Tilden should have already died, Helstrom approached the car crash. Rosetti joined him, and Helstrom sensed that the demon possessing Tilden was old and strong. Rosetti asked to keep him alive, but Helstrom explained that it was impossible since the demon was the only thing keeping him alive.
Helstrom explained that only older demons born of flesh can mark people for possession, and that being possessed by a lesser demon can take a toll on a person, killing them. While Helstrom investigated Tilden's body, Rosetti looked at the driver of the car Tilden was in, although the demon used his abilities to throw the body towards the window, scaring Rosetti. The demon laughed about it to Helstrom. Magoth explained that he caused the crash because he enjoyed it and tried to kill them with part of a truck, but Helstrom deflected it.
"Tilden" mocked Rosetti when he learned that she was new to working with demons, and Helstrom stood up for her. However, the demon revealed the he, like all demons, knew Helstrom as a traitor and said that his name was Magoth. Helstrom demanded to know who marked Tilden, but Magoth interrupted when revealed that Tilden's family had arrived. Rosetti, having surmised that Magoth was once human, pled with him to let Tilden say goodbye to his family. However, Magoth only momentarily pretended the ploy worked before revealing that Tilden cheated on his wife with various prostitutes. He also revealed that Ana Helstrom had become a murderer.
Rosetti attempted to use prayer to give Tilden enough strength to resume control over his body, and when Helstrom saw that it was working, he grabbed Magoth's mark so to hurt the demon, who lit a fire around them in hopes of distracting them. While Rosetti continued praying, Helstrom cleared a path through the fire. He noticed the flames get stronger, as Magoth grew more powerful, and rushed back over to Tilden's body. Before he could exorcise Tilden, Magoth warned Helstrom that the demon who marked him was very strong and would be coming, and Helstrom exorcised the demon from Tilden's body. This took a told on Helstrom and caused the fires around him to go out.
Helstrom watched as Rosetti and Okamoto expressed their condolences to Tilden's family, and Rosetti joined him in his car. Helstrom asked Rosetti what she told the family, and Rosetti said that she only said what they needed to hear. Rosetti expressed hope that the family would get closure, and Helstrom explained that not everybody receives that.[10]
Victoria's Return[]
The next day, Helstrom visited Victoria Helstrom at Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, where he learned that after Ana Helstrom's conversation with Kthara, Victoria had managed to regain control of her body for the first time in years. He was excited to learn that she was lucid enough to be rambling and ask for Ana. Helstrom called Ana to tell him the news and convinced her to stay in Portland and help him get their mother back.
Helstrom and Ana visited their mother, who began asking them whether they had fun playing in the snow. Daimon suggested that the three of them build a snowman some time, but Victoria said that if their father saw them outside, he would be angry and there was not enough time. Victoria had a breakdown and Ana planned to leave, but Kthara had suddenly returned and said that their father was back, revealing to Helstrom that Ana had never told him, despite her already knowing. Helstrom tried to explain that their dad had been cremated, but Kthara explained that he had unfinished business, which Gabriella Rosetti and Louise Hastings determined referred to Zoe Richards, a young girl who had supposedly escaped their father. Although Ana did not believe this, they decided to warn Richards, and Ana suggested using her as bait to draw their father out.[6]
Helping Zoe Richards[]
While in the car, Helstrom, Ana Helstrom, and Gabriella Rosetti discussed their plans for approaching Zoe Richards. Ana began flirting with Rosetti, although Helstrom cut her off. When they arrived at the Richards Residence, Richards answered the door and refused to talk to them, changing her mind a moment later. She welcomed them into her home and told them about the house's history, having been built by her grandfather. Richards began to recount her story, when Ana became uncomfortable and asked to use the bathroom. Suspicious of Ana, Helstrom followed her upstairs and found her in Richards' bedroom. Ana said that somebody else was present, and Helstrom suggested that what Kthara had said to her was making her paranoid, upsetting Ana. She stormed downstairs and, despite Helstrom's protests, began intensely questioning Richards, not believing that she lived alone. Upset about Ana's behavior, Richards demanded that they leave.
Once they were outside, the two continued fighting, and Ana became upset that Helstrom did not appear to trust her. Helstrom asked for more, and Ana said that she remembered what happened to Richards, and that their father burned her alive. She stormed off, ignoring Helstrom as he called out for her. The two left and went out for dinner, although Helstrom believed that they should have stayed, believing his sister could have been correct. Daimon explained that while he knew she had likely seen something bad, they had never talked about it, so he did not know how bad it was. Rosetti explained that Ana's mental state was natural and not Helstrom's responsibility, and the Helstrom explained that he did not know how to talk to her, so Rosetti suggested being empathetic. Using this advice, Helstrom realized that Ana would be returning to the Richards Residence in order to prove Helstrom wrong about Zoe Richards. The two went after her.
They arrived at the Richards Residence and found the door unlocked, but nobody was answering their calls. Fearing the worst, Helstrom went upstairs to the bedroom Ana had found earlier, finding it a mess. He found a door to a staircase, so he climbed the stairs. He went downstairs to find Rosetti, as the real Zoe Richards set the basement on fire. He rushed down to help, and along with Rosetti convinced Richards not to kill herself. Using Helstrom's jacket as protection, the three went to the outside door, and Helstrom used his demonic abilities to open the lock, so the three made it out. Richards explained that she and her sister agreed to a plan proposed by a college student who offered revenge against Ana Helstrom for helping to kidnap Richards, and that her sister was luring Ana into a trap where someone powerful enough to kill her would be waiting, and Helstrom assumed this was referring to his father. He rushed to where Ana was, finding her on the floor, panicking. She said that while he felt different, she was certain their father was present, and Helstrom assured her that he believed her, helping her to the car.[6]
Covering Up a Murder[]
- "Okay, well, Yen had to do something, we've got a ton of expensive artifacts in there."
"You are not trying to justify what we just saw." - âAna Helstrom and Daimon Helstrom[src]
The next day, Helstrom went for a jog after contacting Gabriella Rosetti and Louise Hastings, telling them about the attack on Ana Helstrom the previous night. He returned to his house to find Rosetti and Hastings present, and Rosetti complimented his house. Caretaker arrived, and Helstrom started the meeting by saying that their father was likely alive. Ana asked how to kill it, and Caretaker said that while this was impossible, a demon could be contained by a Keeper demon. Ana left hurriedly to retrieve the Keeper's Skull from her auction house in San Francisco, and Helstrom followed her, insisting on going with her.
When they arrived at Helstrom's auction house, Helstrom commented on Ana's poor art skills growing up, leading to banter between the two. Helstrom called out for Yen, who did not respond. They continued to discuss Ana's business while Ana looked for Chris Yen, eventually realizing that he was not there. They entered the vault and found Cameron Tate's corpse and the skull missing, and Ana realized that Yen was likely involved in both. Ana checked Tate's body, and lied about not knowing him. Ana could not get a clear image of what happened using her powers, so she and Helstrom watched the security footage of Yen brutally murdering Tate, surprised when Ana tried to justify it. Ana noticed that Yen left the auction house with the skull, but Helstrom suggested calling the police, despite Ana's insistence that they focus on the skull. The two argued about Yen's actions, and Ana convinced Helstrom to help her hid Tate's body.
Helstrom watched his sister crush Tate's body using her demonic powers, impressing him. He tried to connect with Ana and get her to talk about the time she spent with their father, but she got defensive and told him to help clean rather than talk when she asked about how calm she was regarding the situation. The two left to get something to cover the smell and a cooler, when they heard someone arrived. While Ana hid, Helstrom went to check on it and prevent them from seeing Tate. He was met by Derrick Jackson, Yen's boyfriend from the San Francisco Police Department. Helstorm introduced himself, and Jackson briefly believed that Yen was cheating on him with Helstrom, who quickly cleared up the confusion.
Helstrom explained that Yen was not at the auction house, so Jackson asked where he was. Helstrom looked toward Ana, unsure of how to answer. Ana joined the conversation as Jackson demanded to know the kind of operation she was running. Helstorm watched Ana take responsibility for Yen's hours and make up a story about Yen having been sent overseas. Jackson noticed blood on Ana's clothes, and she quickly came up with a story that she and Helstrom were moving an artifact that caught her. Helstrom helped her story, recommending that she get a bandage, and Jackson left, threatening to break up with Yen if Ana did not stop being so demanding. Helstrom noticed and pointed out how good Ana was at lying, but she talked about Yen needing a new boyfriend rather than responding, and then returned to cleaning.
As Ana mopped, Helstrom confronted Ana about their side business, which he realized was killing people. He got Ana to confess to the regularity of their killing, confirming what Magoth had told him. This upset Helstrom further, although Ana tried to defend herself by explaining that Tate and his brother killed several women together, although Helstrom was not convinced. Ana believed Helstrom to be comparing her to their father, and took offense, claiming that she was killing people like their father, although Helstrom explained that by her logic people could hunt her. Rather than continue to debate the ethics, Ana said that she would overpower them.
Helstrom found Ana sitting in the vault of the auction house, looking through a box of items which Ana explained brought her pain, which she internalized when decided to kill people who bring the same pain. She told him that the box was gifted to her by their mother, whereas the contents were gifts from their father's "business trips." She explained that because her mother hated that process, Ana internalized the feelings and thought that their mother hated her, so Helstrom assured her that she did not. Helstrom asked whether Ana had considered returning the gifts to the victims' families, and Ana explained that learning the truth would be too painful.
Once the body was completely cleaned, the two pondered how to get rid of it, which was usually Yen's job. Ana suggested dumping it in the bay, which Helstrom said was too risky. So, he approached the crate and used his pyrokinetic ability to destroy it, and Daimon went to comfort him. The two then flew back to Portland, arriving at Portland International Airport, where they discussed where Yen might have gone. Helstrom asked Ana if she wanted to stay with him, although she refused and went to her hotel instead.
Helstrom returned home, where he found Magoth sitting and eating leftover donuts from the meeting earlier that day. Magoth offered Helstrom a deal, saving his mother by handing over his sister, although Helstrom refused. The two fought, and Magoth managed to crush Helstrom with a bookcase, although Ana managed to returned before he died. Helstrom, now free, exorcised Magoth while Ana restrained him. Bryce, whom Magoth was possessing, thank Helstrom before fainting. Ana expressed how impressed she was at his abilities, and Helstrom asked for helping cleaning up, although Ana commented that she would not be cleaning up anything else for the day.[9] After Bryce woke up, he and Helstrom agreed that it would be best if they were not seen talking to each other. Helstrom also told him to lie to the police when he was questioned about the deaths of his frat brothers.[7]
Talking to Bryce[]
The next day, Helstrom drove to Gateway University, where he saw Bryce's frat house in ruins after Basar's attack. Bryce visited his office, upset about the deaths of his brothers. Helstrom assured Bryce that he was not responsible for what happened to his friends, telling him not to let the incident convince him to drop out of school. He tried to recommend Louise Hastings to him, but Bryce instead got upset, since Helstrom told him to lie to the police but not a doctor. The two briefly argued, when Bryce explained how traumatized he was and that Helstrom could not understand before storming out.
Helstrom asked Gabriella Rosetti to help Bryce, so she came to Gateway University to help. The two briefly discussed Helstrom's plan to have Rosetti see him between classes, when Rosetti asked whether Helstrom believed he should be helping the people he exorcises. Helstrom explained that she and Hastings were better equipped for that part, and Rosetti agreed, to which Helstrom responded sarcastically. He noticed that Rosetti seemed upset and asked about it, and she insisted that she was alright before taking Bryce's information and walking away.[7]
Searching for Chris Yen[]
Victoria Helstrom fell unconscious, so Helstrom was called to Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, and he told Ana Helstrom to go as well. They met up, and Helstrom explained what Louise Hastings had told him, that his mother had gone into a coma. He and Ana looked at her, and Ana sensed the Keeper's Skull's presence, which Helstrom had sensed when hey arrived. This led them to realize that Chris Yen was at the hospital. While Caretaker checked the building, Helstrom, Ana, and Hastings checked the security footage, and nobody found Yen. Helstrom asked what happened, and Ana explained that it had influenced him, with Caretaker confirming that the Keeper wanted to do its job and contain a demon.
They figured out that the skull was attracted to Kthara since the Helstroms' father marked Victoria. They became more determined to find Yen when Caretaker said that the skull would take a told on Victoria, and Hastings figured out that since she was digging, Yen was beneath the hospital. So, Helstrom, Ana, and Caretaker went under the hospital to find him. Helstrom asked how bad Yen would be, and Ana suggested the skull was pretty strong, using convincing Yen to go through the sewer as evidence. Helstrom brought up that he also killed a person, and Ana sarcastically suggested she forgot about it. Caretaker began to follow them in the sewer, when Helstrom stopped him and tried to not let him go, although Caretaker insisted and pushed past him.
Caretaker, Helstrom, and Ana made their way to where Yen was, where Helstrom said that they should destroy the skull since it was hurting their mother. Ana and Caretaker disagreed, saying it was their only weapon against their father, and Daimon suggested that Caretaker only agreed with Ana since keeping the skull benefitted him more. Ana showed them Yen's bag, and the three investigated it. Caretaker and Daimon took note that Yen had been eating mice, and when Daimon turned around, he found Ana gone. He and Caretaker went looking for her.
While looking, Helstrom and Caretaker talked about Ana's sense of independence and the messes it made, when Caretaker suddenly asked about Helstrom taking care of his mother. He offered another method of caring for her, one that would take the burden off of Helstrom and Hastings. The two briefly argued about whether Caretaker had successfully protected Helstrom and his sister from the Blood and demons, before continuing their search.
Helstrom found Ana talking to Yen, and Ana asked for a chance to retrieve the skull the peaceful way. Helstrom watched as Yen continually refused to hand over the skull, and got frustrated. He tried to do things his way, until Ana pushed him against the wall. Helstrom did the same to her, and the two got up and started arguing, trying to protect the person they loved. Caretaker came and saw the end of the argument, where Helstrom admitted to being responsible for his mother getting committed. Caretaker saved the pair from getting crushed by pipes that nearly fell on them due to Ana's powers, and Ana noticed that Yen had used the argument to run away.
They followed Yen's trail and discovered that he had gone back to Saint Teresa's. They followed his path and Daimon knocked Yen unconscious beginning to destroy the skull once they saw they mother going into cardiac arrest. However, Victoria Helstrom suddenly sat up and yelled for Helstrom to stop destroying the skull, so he did. It was given to Victoria so that she could continue to use it to contain Kthara and remain in control of her body. The three talked about Kthara, and Helstrom expressed his joy to have his mother back.[7]
Learning About the Blood Hotel[]
Helstrom went to Gabriella Rosetti's office and asked how it went with Bryce. She said that people who had formerly been possessed needed more support than need, and Helstrom agreed. He told her about his mother coming back, and Rosetti suddenly asked to show him something. Feeling a need to stay at Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, he insisted only going if it was urgent, which Rosetti insisted it was.
Rosetti took him to the Blood Hotel and told him about it along the way. They arrived and Rosetti rang the bell, although Helstrom found the person present was dead. They made their way through the hotel and discovered more dead bodies, as Rosetti realized that they were too late to help the Blood's patients as they had been taken.[7]
Rosetti and Helstrom moved the Blood's files into Helstrom's car while he covered the bodies so that Rosetti did not have to see them. Helstrom contacted Hastings and told her about the dead bodies, and Hastings tried to contact Caretaker to no avail. Helstrom expressed confusion about why Hastings would not tell her about the hotel, and Rosetti explained that he would have tried to shut the hotel down, which the Blood did not want. However, Helstrom angrily retorted that he did not care what the Blood wanted. Rosetti asked Helstrom if he was sure that his father was responsible for the massacre, and Helstrom explained that he was since it was organized rather than chaotic, although he did not know why he wanted the demons.
Rosetti and Helstrom left together, but found a woman, Yessenia Flores, who had been left behind. The two approached the woman, and Helstrom realized that she was dying. Helstrom exorcised the demon inside Flores while Rosetti read her last rites, and Flores died in Rosetti's arms.[2]
Escape from Saint Teresa's[]
Gabriella Rosetti and Helstrom began rushing back to Saint Teresa's, in case his father went there. Helstrom suggested finding Flores' family, although Rosetti shut the idea down. Helstrom talked about how he wanted to skip through the emotional part of reuniting where he and his mother talk about what happened to her, and Rosetti tried to assure him that he did not betray his mother by having her committed. They got a flat tire, so they went to the nearest gas station, where the mechanic offered to have it fixed for them and offered them coffee. Helstrom called Louise Hastings, asking what Caretaker said about the Blood Hotel. He was not surprised to learn that he had not answered, and told Hastings about the flat tire. Hastings then told Helstrom that his sister was with his mother. The two argued about whether that was a good idea, and hung up on each other. Upset him, so Helstrom and Rosetti went inside to get coffee together.
The went to the cash register and found no cashier, yet a Nintendo Switch was at the counter, and Helstrom suspected that it did not belong to the mechanic. The two went outside to check on him, and found Rosetti's car alone. Helstrom told Rosetti to wait in the car and went into the garage, where he found that Naren had killed the mechanic. He asked Naren who sent him, and the demon simply told him that he already knew who had sent him. Helstrom attacked Naren, eventually defeating him. He went outside and found another demon about to kill Rosetti, and he lost control of his powers, destroying the demon's body. He collapsed as Rosetti helped him, assuring him that she would have died had he not killed the demon. They rushed home as Helstrom called his sister to warn her about the setup, and she told him that they were already there before hanging up.
When they got to Saint Teresa's, Helstrom forced the door open and they rushed in. He found Victoria Helstrom and stopped her from getting attacked, happily reuniting. He introduced his mother to Rosetti, and then asked where the Keeper's Skull was. The three went after it and caught up with Louise Hastings, Chris Yen, and Ana Helstrom, who had the skull. The two started debating whether to use it against their father, when Victoria suddenly spoke up and talked about how she felt as though she failed to protect her family. She told Helstrom how proud she was of him, saying that having her committed was the right call and deciding to sacrifice herself to destroy her husband. Just then, Basar attacked and threw everyone to the side, taking Victoria. Helstrom ran after her, but Basar closed the elevator door and sealed it. He and Helstrom ran down the stairs after he checked on Rosetti, who said she was fine.
They rushed downstairs after Basar, whom they still believed to be their father, and Helstrom rushed to protect his mother while Ana fought the demon. However, Basar threw Ana across the room and caused the Keeper's Skull to roll away, so Helstrom got angry and began using his telekinetic abilities to throw heavy objects at him. Basar dodged them, so the two began fighting. Basar got the upper hand and opened the mouth on his stomach in preparation to kill Helstrom, but Victoria and Ana recovered the Keeper's Skull and shoved it into the mouth, causing his host body to be burn up and get cut in half.
Helstrom watched as Ana taunted it, although Kthara resumed control of Victoria's body and moved the upper half of Basar's body, which was falling apart but still alive due to Basar's intervention, onto a truck. Helstrom called out for his mother, and Kthara said that she hoped the siblings got to say goodbye to her before closing the truck and having Raum drive them away. Helstrom told Ana that the destroyed body meant that their father could not hurt them anymore, but then Ana shared her revelation that they had not been fighting their father, but rather a different demon.[2]
Demanding Answers[]
Helstrom and Ana Helstrom sat upstairs and talked about how they were tricked, and Helstrom explained that he was upset with himself for believing his sister and going against his instincts, and how Victoria Helstrom got taken as a result. He pointed out that Ana did not appear upset about their mother, and accused her of being easily manipulated, walking away. Ana followed him, not ready to end the conversation.
They made their way into Louise Hastings' office, where Ana accused Helstrom of being fooled by Kthara into thinking their mother could be saved. Helstrom defended himself and said that Ana chose to sacrifice their mother to stop their father, but Ana told her that Victoria wanted to sacrifice herself, referring to her mother by her first name. Helstrom asked why she kept doing that since she was their mother, and Ana told her that she no longer was. Hastings entered her office while Helstrom called Ana coldhearted and tried to diffuse the situation, although Ana responded aggressively. Defending Hastings, Helstrom told Ana that she was her family and demanded that she respect her, so Ana then left. As she walked away, Helstrom continued to yell at her, telling her to continue existing that he and their mother did not exist.
Gabriella Rosetti then came in and brought Jolene Spivey, who had been marked for possession by Basar. Helstrom healed her mark, and talked to Rosetti about why Basar would leave her in the car, and they realized that they were likely waiting for Kthara to possess her. Hastings joined them and they told her their realization, and Rosetti asked how many other Blood Hotels there were. Hastings then explained that Caretaker would know, but that he was still not answering their calls. Helstrom got up and suggested questioning Loman, who had been caught during the previous day's attack on Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, but Rosetti and Hastings told him to rest. Hastings said that she would contact Caretaker again, although Helstrom dismissed her, saying that he could take care of himself.
He went to sleep in a hospital bed and dreamed about finding Kthara in his house, telling him to let out his inner darkness. Rosetti suddenly woke him up and suggested he go home, but he instead insisted on questioning Loman. Rosetti asked where Kthara was, but Loman answered vaguely. Helstrom said that he would exorcise Loman, who responded by explaining that it could not be worse than the way the Blood treated him. He called Helstrom a traitor, and Helstrom insisted on not being with the demons. Loman explained that he could not escape his lineage and offered him a chance to join the demons in the war, telling Rosetti that it was humans who started the war. Loman explained that demons simply wanted freedom, and Helstrom threatened to give him freedom. Loman said that only Kthara could do it before breaking his own neck.
Helstrom went for a walk, and stopped at an antique store where he saw a box similar to the one his sister kept gifts from their father from, and considered texting her. He received a phone call from Esther Smith, telling him that he worked with Caretaker. She told him that she hoped to ally herself him, and that Caretaker went missing because of a pressing matter he needed to attend to. They discussed their different philosophies, and talked about Kthara needing a knew host. She mentioned that she had encountered his father during his killing spree, although Helstrom said that they must have been bad at their jobs since they did not stop him. Smith offered to help find Kthara, asking for help killing her. Helstrom refused, and Smith said that she understood the lack of trust, asking why he could not help when Caretaker and Louise Hastings could. When Helstrom expressed confusion, Smith revealed to Helstrom that the two of them decided to split up him and his sister, which the Blood respected for years. Upset by the revelation, Helstrom hung up.
He returned to Saint Teresa's and talked to Hastings about it, who explained that the Blood would have killed him and his sister if they were not separated. This upset Helstrom, who tried to justify her actions and assume that it was Caretaker's call that she had to go along with. However, Hastings accepted responsibility and told him that she could have decided against the plan, but that she though it would be better for him since his sister was showing signs of violent behavior and he had finally started improving after committing his mother. Helstrom took this mean it was his fault they were separated, and Hastings said that she was not sure how to apologize. Helstrom asked if Hastings had considered how he felt losing his sister, and Hastings said that she was afraid of her.
Helstrom went home and poured himself a drink, when he was visited by Gabriella Rosetti. He hesitantly let her in, and she asked why Hastings seemed upset. Helstrom lied to her and said that he did not know, and expressed the guilt he felt for allowing Loman to kill his host. Rosetti told Helstrom about when she was younger and had epilepsy, which her deeply religious parents mistook for a possession, and how she learned to see things from their perspective and forgive them. Helstrom told her that seeing things from his sister's perspective only made him blame himself for her leaving, and suggested that Rosetti leave while she could, and she assured him that she would not. Rosetti suddenly changed the conversation to finding Victoria Helstrom, so Helstrom told her that they would likely need help that they did not want. Although Rosetti though he meant from his sister, Helstrom explained that he meant help from the Blood. He then called Esther Smith and agreed to a partnership.[8]
Ambushed[]
He drove and explained to Rosetti that Caretaker would broker peace, which he was good at. Rosetti asked if she could stay in the car, but she left anyway and the two entered together. They noticed that they could not see Caretaker, although Helstrom told Rosetti that they would not attack Rosetti, who was innocent, or Helstrom, who would overpower them. However, Helstrom became less certain of this as Lee and two other Blood members approached him without Esther Smith, their leader.
Lee had Helstrom turn around to check him for weapons, and Rosetti was taken away from his side as he did so. However, Helstrom realized that he was getting attacked, so he stopped Lee and threw another Blood member into a pile of boxes. Helstrom realized that Lee tried to stab him with his father's dagger, and demanded to know where he had found it. Another Blood member shot Helstrom, and he became angry as his scar lit up and he burned the two Blood members alive. Lee and Smith fled, and Helstrom picked up the knife, angry that it had resurfaced.[8]
The two rushed home, and Helstrom called his sister, warning her about the Blood potentially attacking her next. Helstrom and Rosetti rushed inside as Rosetti suggested calling the police, but Helstrom explained that he would get hunted for attempted murder, even though he was simply defending himself. He changed shirts since his was burned during the ambush, and Rosetti realized that his gunshot wound was already healing. Helstrom realized that Rosetti still had his father's dagger and asked for it, telling Rosetti what it was. He sensed the knife's old and violent past, imagining what his sister must feel when she touches it. Rosetti suggested destroying the knife, and Helstrom told her that there was a second part to it.[4]
Search for the Shard[]
Helstrom took Gabriella Rosetti to Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, where Louise Hastings told her that the Archbishop warned Hastings that Rosetti might get attacked, and Rosetti left his father's dagger with her. Meanwhile, Helstrom sat outside in his car and thought about the last time he had seen the dagger get used, when he broke it while his father kidnapped Ana Helstrom. Rosetti rejoined him and told him about her conversation with Hastings. Helstrom assured Rosetti that it was not her fault, but Rosetti said that Terrazi swore himself to secrecy. Helstrom explained that she should not have believed him or any man, including himself.
Ana called Helstrom back and told him that the Blood had not yet attacked her. She said that she had let anger get the better of her, and was about to apologize when Helstrom said that he believed Ana was right. Ana suggested they talk in person and said she was at Saint Teresa's, and he told her that he was headed to their childhood home. He told her that they were going to get the other piece of the knife, which Ana said was a terrible idea. However, Helstrom said that he believed they could use it to kill Kthara. When Ana said that it would kill their mother, Helstrom told her that any hope of getting her back was gone. He asked her to wait to hunt her down together, when Ana asked why he was referring to "the other piece" of the dagger.
They arrived at the house and Rosetti prepared to go inside, when Helstrom stopped her saying that Kthara might have sent people. Rosetti asked what would happen if it were just a family that did not let him in, and he said that he would not overcomplicate things. However, Rosetti said it was too late for that as Helstrom turned around and saw a real estate agent putting out an open house sign. They posed as a couple and let the agent show them the house, and Helstrom asked if they had heard anything unusual about the house. The agent turned to other customers after answering the question, who Helstrom recognized as Blood. Helstrom asked to look around the house, and the agent said they could after she showed them the kitchen with a new smart fridge.
Helstrom and Rosetti sat down near a window and as Rosetti saw two more Blood members go in. Rosetti suggested they leave the house to remove the Blood members from the innocent people, and Helstrom instead approached the real estate agent, loudly asking about a barn near the house and whether it was part of the property. The realtor said that it was not, although she was happy to contact the people who did own it and see if they would sell. Helstrom thanked her and walked back over to Rosetti, who asked what his plan was. He told her the plan was to wait for the Blood members to grow impatient and leave.
He went to the basement of the house and remembered his sister getting kidnapped again. Rosetti came downstairs to tell him that the Blood had left, as he said that most of the memories in the house were pleasant, of his father giving him a normal childhood until his sister was kidnapped. Helstrom told Rosetti that being near him put her in danger, and Rosetti asked about his own danger. Helstrom said that he was not in danger since he inherited his father's abilities, and Rosetti assured him that he was different, although Helstrom explained that he would always be his father's son, and that he left the blade behind for the future. Rosetti explained that he knew right and wrong, saying that he was not responsible for hurting the Blood members. Rosetti planned on leaving without the dagger, although Helstrom insisted on doing so, planning to show the Blood who he really was.
Helstrom dug up a box he had left in a nearby barn as a kid, when he suddenly found himself surrounded by Blood members wielding weapons, who attacked him. One member tased him and others placed a Keeper Talisman on his head, so he pretended to be contained. A Blood member determined that he was simply digging up an action figure while Helstrom burned the Talisman and threw all the members across the barn, standing up and threatening to make an example of them. He hung them on nooses and had them barely supported by objects found around the barn. When Rosetti returned and saw it, he told her to wait outside. Rosetti refused as Helstrom explained that he was showing the Blood an extreme they could understand, removing one of the members' platforms, but letting him stay afloat.
He demanded that Esther Smith come out, asking her to beg for her people's lives. She explained that she did not care whether he killed them or her, since he would be proving the Blood's point that all demons were the same. Helstrom dropped the members slightly while Rosetti picked up a shovel and threatened him with it, although Helstrom pointed out that it would be bad to break his concentration. He told Smith that he was in fact like his father, but that he was also human, with the power to forgive. He told Smith that he forgave her prejudice and treachery, declaring their war against his family to be over. He told them never to attack them again and to consider themselves lucky they had not had a run-in with his sister. Helstrom and Rosetti then left together. He retrieved the dagger from under the fireplace, where he had left it, and drove home with Rosetti, silently.[4]
Possessed by Basar[]
When they returned home, Helstrom assured Gabriella Rosetti that he would not have killed the Blood members regardless of whether she was there. They joked about their cover as a couple and the terminology they both used. Helstrom commented on Rosetti being a nun who was cursing and drinking with a demon, although Rosetti said that he was not a demon and that she was not yet a nun. Helstrom then received a phone call from Ana Helstrom, telling him that Victoria Helstrom was free. Ecstatic, Helstrom wanted to go to Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, although Ana told him not to and that he could come in the morning, when she expected him to do the talking. Helstrom hung up and told Rosetti, who was excited for him.
He told Rosetti the news and expressed guilt at not having been the one to save her after giving up on her, although Rosetti helped him feel better by explaining that reuniting Victoria and Ana was how he saved her. The two hug and finally kissed, although Helstrom stopped, not wanting to make Rosetti break her vows, which she said she had not yet taken. Helstrom realized how bad he must have smelled, so he went to take a shower. There was a large crash while he was showering, so he stopped and planned to leave, when Rosetti asked to join her in the shower. He realized that she was possessed and the two started fighting, as the demon commented on the sexual nature of the positions their fight put them in. The demon revealed herself to be Kthara, and then shoved Basar's heart into him. Using Helstrom's and Rosetti's bodies, Kthara and Basar had sex.[4]
Basar went to Saint Teresa's and tried to kill Victoria Helstrom, prompting Ana Helstrom to fight with him and attempt to cut Basar out of him using their father's dagger. However, Helstrom suddenly regained control of his body before Ana could do it, demanding to know where Rosetti was. She told him that Rosetti was pregnant and needed him to exorcise Kthara, although he said that he could not and had her cut the demon out of him.
However, once she started, he felt a lot of pain and realized that it would not work without both pieces of the dagger, so Ana left to reunited the pieces. She came back and told him the piece was missing, so Helstrom sent Ana to make sure Rosetti stayed safe, promising to hold Basar off until she got back. However, fighting for control became too much, as he began throwing himself against the walls. He finally through himself against the ceiling, falling back onto the floor and ending his own life.[11]
However, Basar survived and attempted to force Rosetti to give birth. Ana managed to reforge their father's dagger and use it to fight Basar. During the fight, Helstrom temporarily regained control and begged his sister to kill him, but Ana could not. Basar resumed control and attacked Chris Yen, a new Keeper Demon, when Ana used the dagger to kill Basar, freeing Helstrom. He took his father's dagger and used it to kill Raum, saving Father Joshua Crow, and Magoth, saving Finn Miller, who were about to kill Gabriella Rosetti. Helstrom rushed to Rosetti and tried to talk to her, but she was in such a state of mental distress from being forced to give birth that she could not respond.[5]
Helstroms Together[]
Gabriella Rosetti was taken to the hospital, and Helstrom went with her, and told her that the baby was normal and that if she grew up right they might prevent her from attacking humanity. However, Rosetti insisted that the child needed to die. Rosetti insisted on not using personal pronouns for the child and shut down his attempt to empathize with her. She told Helstrom that she changed her mindset when she gave birth, realizing that she was being punished for giving into temptation. Helstrom tried to comfort her, but Rosetti stayed strong in her belief, insisting that she bear the pain and could not trust Helstrom or his "kind," upsetting Helstrom. Rosetti told him that demons being in the world is wrong and not normal, and said that he was either ignorant or evil for convincing her it was normal, and that she regretted starting to work at Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health.
Helstrom went to St. Johns Bridge, where he had attempted to kill himself after Ana Helstrom got taken. He looked over the bridge and reflected on his attempt, deciding to see the water from the ground. He was joined by Ana and Helstrom thanked her for saving him. Ana thanked him for not giving up on her, and he said he felt like he owed her that. Ana assured him that being family meant know debts were involved, and they told each other that they loved each other.
Later, Victoria Helstrom and Ana made dinner at Helstrom's house, where they were joined by Caretaker and Louise Hastings. Helstrom talked to Hastings, who revealed that she could not reach Gabriella Rosetti, but Helstrom changed the subject to her not telling him that she had lung cancer. Hastings told him that she did not want him involved in her fight. Victoria and Ana brought out dinner, and Victoria asked Helstrom to get Caretaker a beer. He found Caretaker reading one of Helstrom's books about Socrates, and Caretaker advised him to live in the present. Victoria made a toast to her children and the people who raised them, and they all ate dinner together as a blended family.[5]
Personality[]
Helstrom cares deeply for his family, often prioritizing that over himself, such as when he refuses to leave in hopes of talking to his mother, against her warnings. He feels guilt over not being able save his sister from his father, and that he was forced to institutionalized his mother, when she lost her grip on reality. He tries hard to undo the evil his father unleashed, but prefers to do so anonymously. In addition, he can be sarcastic and have a sense of humor, as shown when he revealed that the kid that was thought to be possessed was in fact faking.
Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- "He's special. We both are."
- âAna Helstrom to Victoria Helstrom[src]
- Hybrid Physiology: Due to his heritage, Helstorm is part demon and part human, granting him supernatural abilities. He has physical attributes similar to his sister Ana Helstrom, as well as powers unique to him.
- Superhuman Strength: Due to his demonic heritage, Helstrom possesses great strength which was enough to fight other Demons. He also held back Kthara's arm for a short time until she overwhelmed him.
- Superhuman Durability: Helstrom was able to sithstand horrific attacks. He was able to survive getting thrown into multiple walls by both Kthara and himself. When battling Basar, who was inside of him, Helstrom threw himself into walls and the ceiling. During a skirmish with the Blood, Helstrom survived a shot to the back. In another skirmish, Helstrom easily withstood taser attacks. He also can withstand fire.
- Regenerative Healing Factor: Helstrom is able to heal from horrible injuries with time. Helstrom's bullet wound healed in a matter of a day and was already healing that very night. When Basar was ripped out of Helstrom's back, his scar was able to close itself fairly quickly. Furthermore, he eventually regained his eyes through the help of Basar when they were burned out by his exorcism.
- Telekinesis: Helstorm possesses incredible telekinetic abilities, one of his most prominent powers. He generally uses this ability to paralyze possessed humans before exorcising them. Helstrom is also capable of sending an adult human flying through the air and moving huge objects, like a large fan. Despite being a half demon, Helstrom's telekinetic abilities proved to be great enough to surpass those of a true demon. However, he has implied that he requires concentration to perform telekinesis and keep objects and/or people suspended. He threw multiple pieces of wood at Basar before using his powers to stop Basar's punch. He also destroyed a lock in order to get Gabriella Rosetti and Zoe Richards out of a fire. In a fight with Naren, Helstrom sent a rack of tires onto the demon.
- Fire Manipulation: Helstrom possesses the ability to generate and control fire. He was able to use this ability to create a circle of fire around him and Archer Cavallo, control the flames of other demons and ignite his father's dagger with flames which he can use to exorcise demons. He also used this against Magoth to get him to come out. In another instance, Helstrom got so mad that he set many Blood members on fire. Uniquely, his scar on his chest glows when he uses his fire. With the Shard, Helstrom could use fire to make it very long, almost like a trident. He also killed a demon with fire by burning his chest.
- Exorcism: Helstrom can exorcise spirits that are demonic or ghostly in origin from their hosts. When using this ability, a purple flame appears around his target. He exorcised Magoth from Bryce, Alex Tilden, and Finn Miller. He also exorcised Raum from Joshua Crow. However, due to Kthara's strength, he was unable to exorcise her from Victoria Helstrom. Daimon was also able to exorcise himself from Basar's control. However, Basar was very strong and ended up killing Daimon.
