Committed is the fifth episode of the first season of the television series Helstrom.
Synopsis[]
Things are not what they seem as Mother's health sharply declines. As Ana searches for Yen, Gabriella offers counsel to a student struggling to understand how demons live among us. Daimon makes a discovery that is truly a matter of life and death.
Plot[]
Victoria Helstrom writes frantically in her notebook while she says to herself that, âshe will be back tomorrowâ and âit wonïżœïżœïżœt be like the last timeâ in regards to Ana coming back home.
Marduk Kurios's face scratched out
Around the house, pictures of the Helstrom family showcased how the Helstrom Patriarchâs face has been scratched out. She appears to be struggling with the demon inside her. A young Daimon Helstrom tells his mother that he has made food for them. Victoria gets angry when Daimon states that Ana is not coming back after she asks why he did not make a spot for his sister. There is a knock on the door, but it turns out that the visitors at the door are doctors from a behavioral hospital called to the house by Daimon himself. The same sequence of events repeats again and again until the ceiling begins to crack in one of those times Victoria relives the day she got committed.
In the present day, Daimon drives by the frat house where his Dad killed all those frat guys some time ago. Bryce, the college kid who was possessed by Magoth, pays Daimon a visit. He is having a hard time coping with everything. He thinks he killed his frat brothers. Daimon assures Bryce that he did not kill anyone and thinks Bryce should talk to a doctor. Bryce wants nothing to do with that and then walks out in anger.
Ana Helstrom meanwhile is dealing with some nightmares. Daimon talks to Rosetti about Bryce's problem. She thinks that Daimon should be helping these people with how they feel after being exorcised, but Dr. Hastings usually handles this part. As a result, he feels like it is Rosetti's turn now that the nun in training is out in the field with him.
At the Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health, Dr. Hastings pays Victoria a visit,who physically, just continues getting worse. Victoria is incessantly scratching the floor. All while the memory of when she was committed comes up again. But this time a young Ana is actually at the door, not the doctors. Ana arrives at the ward and finds out that Victoria is now in a coma. Just when the Helstrom siblings are near their mother's room, both end up feeling the presence of the Keeper's Skull. Inside her mind, Victoria is trying to get Ana to talk about how she got away from Marduk Kurios. A young Ana claims that she hit Dad and ran, but a young Daimon does not believe her. Young Ana freaks out when she sees a figure outside the house. Victoria tries to comfort her daughter by telling her that it was just the lightning playing tricks on her. That as long as they stay inside, it can not hurt them. Unfortunately, the lights then go out and Ana says that he is coming.
Caretaker arrives to join the siblings and Dr. Hastings to talk about Yen. Caretaker thinks that the Keeper demon knows that Victoria is affected by their father's blood, hence why she became possessed in the first place. Caretaker suggests that the keeper demon simply wants to do its job; to contain evil. Dr. Hastings then shows the siblings where Victoria has been scratching. The two along with Caretaker go underground looking for Yen. Daimon thinks that the two of them can handle it together, but Caretaker reminds him that Ana would save Yen over Daimon. Thus, Daimon needs him.
At Gateway University, Bryce gets a visit from Rosetti. She convinces him to let her help him.
Victoria and a young Ana Helstrom are scared
Inside her fractured mind, Victoria lights a candle as she tells a young Ana about how lightning works but Daimon shuts that down quickly with the harsh truth. A sinister knock at the door has everyone scared when suddenly the windows burst. Daimon disappears. Ana finds trash and half eaten mice when she hears something nearby. A young Ana confronts Victoria about letting Dad take her, and all she does is write in her diary. Victoria finally realizes that this Ana does not exist; she never came home. The door slams behind her and just as Victoria is trying to open it, Ana changes to someone that Victoria knows.
Bryce is a bundle of nerves as he talks to Rosetti about his experience. He never saw the demon but felt another presence within him. It felt like waking up to the worst day over and over again. Which mirrors the hell Victoria is going through inside her mind. Rosetti feels like she understands and promises that they will not let it happen again.
Kthara shows herself to Victoria in the last form she took when she was last alive. Kthara asks Victoria to work with her to keep her husband from getting in so that they can both get back to their children. If they let Victoria's husband in, he may break both of them.
Daimon and Caretaker are on the search for Ana when Caretaker pitches the idea of Daimon handing Victoria over to the Blood. Victoria is struggling to keep her mind from being entered. As her health is affected, her husband is able to open the door to her memory. She and Kthara run.
Ana finally finds Yen, who is at a near feral stage. He does not want to be her errand boy anymore, but Ana does her best to convince him to give her the skull. Daimon tries to do things his way but another fight begins with the siblings with the two as they try to save the people they care for. Ana finds out that Daimon can not let their Mom go because he committed her. Yen takes that momentary distraction and disappears.
Victoria Helstrom wakes up
Victoria is being affected by her memories but Kthara reminds her that is all it is, memories, which can not really harm her. Kthara needs Victoria to hide her, but Victoria realizes that it may not be her husband but someone Kthara is afraid of. Victoria is tired of allowing Kthara run things and allows the demon in so it can have Kthara. It's not her husband; it is the Keeper there for Kthara. Victoria tries to make it out but is having heart problems.
Meanwhile, Yen has somehow made it out to the hospital. Daimon finds him before he enters Victoria's room. Daimon does his best to destroy the skull, but Victoria wakes up and yells for him to stop.
The siblings and their mother talk outside, with the skull in her lap. Ana is not interested in it all, but Daimon is happy to have his mother. Inside, Yen is committed as he struggles with symptoms of withdrawal from the skull. Daimon visits Rosetti to talk about Bryce and he lets her know that he understands that those who are possessed do need their help. Especially now that Victoria is back. Rosetti shows Daimon the hotel where the possessed are being held, but upon arrival they find bloody bodies all about the place.
Rosetti tearfully says to Daimon that she should have told him sooner, because now they are too late.
