- "A Keeper Demon, you mentioned that back at the house."
"Rare bunch. They rebelled against their own kind." - âGabriella Rosetti and Caretaker[src]
Keeper Demons, or simply Keepers, are a rare group of demons who turned against the rest of their kind in the war between demons and humans.
History[]
During the war between humans and demons, the Keeper Demons rebelled against their own kind and began working to contain demons, preventing them from causing too much havoc on the world.[1]
One Keeper contained Basar, upsetting Kthara. The demon continued to contain Basar after its death, until Kthara orchestrated an escape so that Basar could possess Keith Spivey. Ana Helstrom brought the Keeper's skull to her auction house,[2] where the demon influenced Chris Yen into killing Cameron Tate[3] and bringing the skull to the area underneath Saint Teresa Center for Mental Health,[1] where it began to contain Kthara, freeing Victoria Helstrom from her possession. Although Daimon Helstrom nearly destroyed the skull, Victoria stopped him and started using it to contain Kthara, following a journey through her mind scape with the demon during which she allowed the Keeper to capture her.[4]
However, Basar later arrived at Saint Teresa's in order to rescue Kthara. Magoth, possessing Doctor Edgar Lawrence, took the Keeper's skull from Victoria and guarded it until Yen killed him over it and gave it to Ana Helstrom. Ana used the Keeper's skull to destroy Basar's host body, freeing Kthara and allowing her to escape with Raum. This also resulted in the skull's destruction,[5] upsetting Daimon, who believed the skull to be the only weapon that would work against his and Ana's father.
However, due to his long-term exposure to the Keeper's Skull and his constantly letting it bite down on him, Yen became a Keeper Demon and got several marks on his arm. He discovered them while with his boyfriend and called Caretaker for help, and Caretaker told Yen what had happened. Yen helped Ana reforge her father's dagger using his newfound Keeper knowledge. He then went with Ana to an abandoned carnival, where he helped contain Basar,[6] who had possessed Daimon's body,[7] long enough for Ana to kill him, saving Daimon. Daimon then used his father's dagger to kill two other demons while Yen watched. Gabriella Rosetti had been forced to give birth to a new form for Kthara, so the Helstroms, Caretaker, and Louise Hastings planned to raise the child together while Rosetti left the group of friends to join the Blood. Yen lied to Ana about going to San Francisco to attempt to salvage his relationship with his boyfriend, but instead kidnapped the child and began raised her himself. A month later, Kthara had grown rapidly while under Yen's care. Yen and Kthara were then approached by Marduk Kurios, who expressed approval at Yen being the new Keeper Demon. Yen refused to let Helstrom have Kthara, so Helstrom began killing people until Yen finally handed her over. The two then walked away together as Helstrom continued to kill people.[6]
Capabilities[]
Keeper Demons are able to keep other demons at bay, holding them back unless they are freed by other forces. Even their corpses are capable of containing demons if they are close enough. Keepers are also capable of turning humans into Keeper Demons, as the Keeper did to Chris Yen. They have intuition about the use of certain demonic objects and tools, such as Marduk Kurios's dagger. They are immune to harm caused from demons of the bloodline they were sworn to contain, but they are still able to be manipulated by them.
