Barrel, mostly known as Barrel the Brave, is a minor character in Amphibia. He was an old friend of King Andrias and Leif before the trio ultimately separated, and used to have a warhammer which he used during battles. He was later killed trying to defend a village from a narwhal worm. His warhammer was later found by Sasha Waybright, who then used it to knock the narwhal worm out after driving it to the North Tower.

Barrel was a light green horned toad with a mint green belly. He also had light yellowish eyes with red pupils, and sharp dark green teeth.
Clothing[]
His clothing consisted of bronze armor with a white fur collar next to his shoulder pads and brown leather underneath.
Personality[]
A member of the Newtopian guard, Barrel formerly enjoyed the company of Leif the gardener and the then-Prince Andrias, despite not being as bright as them and failing to understand their intellectual pursuits. Though noble and kind-hearted, when his two friends became pitted against one another for control over the Calamity Box, Barrel was unable to commit to either, being unwilling to strike down Leif despite initially pursuing her along with Andrias. Barrel's inaction would sour his friendship with Andrias, who banished him to the northern reaches of Amphibia.
Background[]
Friends with Prince Andrias and Leif[]
Barrel the Brave was a young toad who served as a guard in Newtopia, but at the same time spent most of his time with his friends, Prince Andrias, and the caretaker of the castle's subway garden, Leif.[2][3] One day, Andrias presented him and Leif with his official portrait to celebrate the latter's appointment for the next invasion.[2]
Leif's prophecy of the Calamity Box[]
After a discussion Andrias had with his father about the impending invasion, he shows Barrel and Leif the chamber containing the Calamity Box, but Leif and Barrel start playing with it, only for Leif to end up pressing the three gems, giving her a vision of Amphibia's dark future if Newtopia continues to misuse the box's power. After this, she calls a meeting with King Aldrich to warn him of her vision, only to be ignored by him and even her friends, resulting in Leif stealing the box to protect Amphibia. This provokes a chase towards her by Andrias and Barrel throughout the castle to catch her and recover the box. Barrel manages to reach her and is about to catch her, but Leif tries to convince him that she is doing everything for Amphibia, making Barrel think for a moment, which is enough for Leif to escape.[2]
Reassigned to outskirts[]
After failing to capture her, Andrias decides to banish Barrel from Newtopia, reassigning him to the defense of the villagers in the outskirts, to the sadness of both of them. Sometime later he was killed while defending a village from a terrifying beast.[2][4]
Legacy[]
More than 1000 years after his death, Barrel and his warhammer became legends among the toads, the latter ending up being guarded by a giant narwhal worm. When Sasha, Grime, Percy, and Braddock call a meeting of toads to support their idea of dominating Amphibia, they reject it when they learn that Sasha and Grime will lead it, but Captain Aldo tells Sasha that the only way to prove they are worthy to lead is to locate and return Barrel's Warhammer. After defeating the worm guardian of the hammer, they retrieve the hammer and gain the support of the Toads, but are abandoned by Braddock and Percy because of Sasha's lack of interest in their safety or themselves.[4] The hammer fell into the hands of Grime.[3][5]
The now-broken portrait Andrias made of him with Barrel and Leif ended up in the deepest part of the basement of Newtopia Castle,[6] only to later be burned by Andrias after remembering Barrel and Leif.[2]
When the Core put its final plan into motion, Andrias had already begun to see the error of his ways after reading a letter from Leif about the good times they had with Barrel and turned against his master. After the war in Amphibia ended, Andrias proceeded to right the wrongdoings he did; because of the state of his body, he uses Barrel's hammer (which he got from Grime) as a cane to get around, while it doubles as a way to remember their friendship.[7]

Voice[]
Barrel is voiced by Jason Ritter. Ritter was announced as a guest star in the third season on July 24, 2021,[8] with his role as Barrel being announced on March 21, 2022.[1] Ritter also voiced Dipper Pines from Gravity Falls, another Disney Television Animation produced series.
Debut[]
Initially mentioned in "Barrel's Warhammer", Barrel made his official debut in the third season episode "The Core & The King". Prior to this, he had a non-speaking appearance in flashbacks from the episode "True Colors", and was also partially seen in an old painting from "The Sleepover to End All Sleepovers".
