Amphibia is the titular location of the series of the same name. The continent itself is a mostly rural tropical marshland on a planet within the Multiverse that is shaped like a lily pad leaf, based on the aquatic plant usually associated with frogs.
After King Andrias had the Calamity Box with the Calamity Gems installed returned into his hands, he used the box's technology to reactivate the factories around Amphibia to build up his personal Frobot military force and quickly industrialize around Amphibia's capital city Newtopia with its outer areas in weeks to the point of stripping off natural surroundings and causing lots of severe pollution.[1][2]
Sasha Waybright and Captain Grime formed the Wartwood Resistance to oppose Andrias' reign,[3] and were joined by Anne Boonchuy and the Plantars after they returned to Amphibia.[4][5] However, they were captured by the Core (possessing Marcy Wu) in an attempted raid against Newtopia Castle,[6] before freeing themselves and defeating Andrias with the Core back in Los Angeles, California, USA, Earth right before the end of Frog-vasion.[7]
Roughly nine months later after the defeat of the Core with the three girls returning to Earth, the environment healed from Andrias' industrialization. With a new government founded as it has its dignitaries such as Grime, Yunan, and Olivia.[8] As Amphibia's moon was destroyed by Anne, a new continent rose up on Amphibia's planet.
Geography[]
Amphibia is in a 'magical' world/planet inhabited by every species of sentient amphibians—frogs, toads, salamanders, olms, axolotls, and newts—which live in Amphibia along with various local wildlife creatures and monsters including giant mantises and predatory herons. Other than marshlands, swamps, forests and jungles of tropical environment filled with vegetation, there are deserts, arctics, snowy peaks and other types of biomes.
Unlike the wildlife found on Earth, Amphibia's nature is much larger in size and seem to be more diverse. Possibly leads to the conclusion that the concentration of oxygen in the atmosphere of Amphibia is higher than that of Earth, which enable it to host larger in size varieties of creatures from Earth. Many of Amphibia's fauna (creatures) are usually predators of the citizens of Amphibia such as praying mantises and giant weasels, this applies to some flora (plants) as well such as the carnivorous tomato plant. However, there are some animals that can be tamed and domesticated for transportation, farming and pets, such as snails, ladybugs, spiders, birds, etc.
A new, previously unknown continent lying beyond Amphibia has been recently discovered as of "The Hardest Thing".
History[]
The mystical and dangerous Amphibia was ruled by the ancestors of King Andrias, the Leviathan family. Newtopia, the kingdom's capital, was stable, thriving and extremely advanced more than 1000 years ago even before King Aldrich's time with loads of advanced technology such as Frobots as the Calamity Box was the source of energy powering the castle itself and the whole continent. Yet the box was eventually lost under Andrias' watch by his former female frog friend Leif which led to Newtopia as a whole losing most of its powerful technological advancements, even those that were far from the city on the continent. Causing the whole continent (except Newtopia) to regress at a medieval or pre-industrial era state for more than a thousand years and stuck in stagnation without any technological progress such as electricity. Other than that, the Amphibians' technology once used to control Amphibia's wildlife was no longer available to them; their cities were becoming overrun with beasts and monsters which hadn't troubled them for centuries. It was revealed in "The Core & The King", the reason the Calamity Box was stolen was to prevent a dark future where the entire island is destroyed.
Over a millennium later, three human teen girls Anne, Marcy, and Sasha ended up in Amphibia for 5 months after opening the Calamity Box that Anne was forced to steal from a thrift store located at Los Angeles, California, USA, Earth on her 13th birthday.
As of "True Colors", King Andrias had regained control of the Calamity Box and is currently sapping the resources of Amphibia for his conquest of other worlds, with the invasion on Earth as the first target. As of "Escape to Amphibia", this industrialization has spread to most of the land. In "Commander Anne", Andrias has the wildlife of Amphibia near Wartwood under mind control by the Mushroom Substance, but are later freed.
By the time of "Grime's Pupil", Andrias has control almost all of Amphibia except Wartwood Swamp as shown on the map in the Resistance Underground Base. Though reality is even those areas got controlled by Andrias still got resistance movements & non-aligned factions messing around like Tritonio Espada's Merry Band.
Society and culture[]
According to "Hop-Popular", there were 22,651 amphibians living in the Valley where Wartwood and the Toad Tower are located. The population of the whole of Amphibia has not been revealed in the series.
Amphibia as a whole during Andrias' rule was governed by 3 sentient Amphibian species: frogs, toads, and newts. These Amphibians are spread all about Amphibia, and are majorly defined by their class structure and societal characteristics; with the newts as the ones controlling the whole land while the toads are under the newts command to enforce law and order with collect taxes from the other amphibians, mostly frogs who are mostly from farming communities.
Its native currency used by the local Amphibians is copper.
The 4th sentient species, the Olms, had been isolationist in their underground city Proteus, until Anne, Sasha & the Plantars needed to meet Mother Olm.
With Andrias' Frobot military reign since "True Colors", it changed the various factions as well as the societies. Some forced (like Olivia and Yunan) or willingly (like Bartley, Branson, and Blair) worked for Andrias, others like the Wartwood Resistance fought against him, while others like the Marauders didn't choose either side though would sell captured resistance forces to Andrias for payment.
After the Core was defeated with the 3 girls returning to Earth, a new government was founded by the dissolved Wartwood Resistance members such as Grime, Yunan, and Olivia as its dignitaries.
Places of interest[]
- Frog Valley or "The Valley": One of the main regions in Amphibia with a population of 22,651 mostly frogs, consists of towns and villages surrounded by dangerous mountain ranges and cliffs which occasionally freeze during their yearly cycle in which travel in and out of the valley is impossible.
- Wartwood Swamp: One of the main towns located in the Valley, Wartwood Swamp is populated by anthropomorphic frogs. Unlike Earth's cities nor Amphibia's capital city Newtopia, Wartwood is not technologically advanced and uses traditional methods such as bio-luminescent mushrooms for light, bearing the resemblance of a medieval period as swords and bows are still widely used, which its economy was relatively poor before Anne came in the town.
- Plantar Farm: The Plantar Residence is where Sprig, Polly, and Hop Pop live. It is also where Anne currently resides, in the house's basement. In the episode "Family Shrub", it is revealed that the ancestors of the Plantar family also occupied the residence, having made secret chambers for their own studies and occupations.
- Resistance Underground Base: Also known as Plantar Family Tunnels, is a giant catacomb of tunnels beneath the Plantars' Farm previously used by their anscestors such as Skip, Polliana and Emma Plantar in their jobs and hobbies. After Andrias' plans to take over Amphibia started, Sasha and Grime along with Wartwood's citizens formed a Resistence, taking the tunnels and renovated into their official headquarters. After the Core's defeat, it's unknown what happened to it.
- South Tower: Also known as Toad Tower, it is located far from Wartwood in an area surrounded by steep cliffs and mountainous terrain. The South Tower was inhabited by soldiers of the Toad Army garrison with Captain Grime as the garrison's leader. Sasha, one of Anne's human friends, was formerly held prisoner here before joining the army as a second-in-command of said garrison. The garrison under Captain Grime's rule were known as the protectors (actually bullies that were commanded by the Newtopian military) of the Valley. It was later reduced to ruins following the detonation of Wally's boomshrooms[9] and was later covered in overgrowth.[8]
- Ribbitvale: It's the most expensive town in all of Amphibia, where the mansion Ribbiton Manor owned by Wigbert Ribbiton and his son's real home is located.
- Bittyburg: A small town located in a desert region of Amphibia. This town, as suggested by its name, is home to a small population of miniature frogs, no larger than an Earth cellphone.
- Stony Gulch: A relatively mid-sized town made up of primarily stone structures and buildings. This town is home to the Curiosity Hut, a small oddities museum based off of the Mystery Shack from Gravity Falls.
- The Dry Swamp: A sandy, desert-like region with little to no vegetation or water. Primarily consists of sand dunes with little to no amphibian inhabitants.
- Baby Town: A town located east of Stonewell in the Dry Swamp. It is implied that the town is home to numerous amounts of Amphibian babies.
- Stonewell: A small desert town located in the Dry Swamp, north of Mount Ridgemore and west of Baby Town.
- Mountain Ridgemore: A large mountain in the Dry Swamp between Banksville and Stonewell.
- Banksville: A town located in the Dry Swamp with the slogan "We have money!" Very inviting to criminals like bank robbers.
- Newtopia: A major landmark and known throughout Amphibia as its capital city. Newtopia was the residence of the ruling monarch King Andrias with his ancestors.

Trivia[]
- Amphibia's land resembles that of a giant lily pad, a plant often associated with amphibians and other swamp animals/creatures, such as dragonflies.
- Amphibia is named after the biological classification of amphibians, which makes sense since the majority of the population inhabiting Amphibia are amphibians themselves.
- It is possible that the world of Amphibia has more oxygen in its atmosphere than that of the environment of Earth, as enriched oxygen allows organisms to reach significant heights. This may be why its creatures grow many times larger than their Earth counterparts.
- In "Handy Anne", Sprig mentions the onset of the spring equinox. This likely means that the Amphibian continent is in the southern hemisphere of the planet, as the events of "Handy Anne" take place in early-September/October 2019 (three months[10] and two weeks[11] after Anne's thirteenth birthday around May 21–June 20, 2019).
- During some nights, a lunar eclipse occurs when the moon orbits Amphibia's world. The moon's shadow creates the blood moon effect, which would make the area in Amphibia like Frog Valley have a bright red surrounding. Moreover, the lunar eclipse is seen in the Amphibia show posters and the Season 2 credits sequence.
- The map of Amphibia opened by Hop Pop in "Handy Anne" shows the cardinal directions, as it seems facing Amphibia's lily pad leaf opening is west.
- In "Kermit Reacts to Amphibia", Kermit the Frog compared the island's appearance to that of the swamp he grew up in, which was "wetter, muddier, and closer to the Interstate."
- Bigotry at the level of society and speciesism is implied to exist in Amphibia during Andrias' rule, as Amphibian caste system society shares some parallels to feudalism with Andrias' government being an aristocracy, particularly with the agrarian culture of the frogs and the establishment of a monarchy. Furthermore, most newts consider themselves to be the most superior and more civilized than other amphibians in Amphibia, while toads think themselves are better than frogs for their militaristic culture.
- Although the frogs might be deemed to be the lowest and basic sentient species in Amphibia in the form of low level yet vital jobs like farmers, some of them achieved upper-class statuses as business magnates with large influences in that world by their own companies; Wally's father Wigbert is the head of the "family empire" Ribbiton's Ribbons that produces the finest web crusty floss in all of Amphibia, while Hop Pop's old friend Sal founded and owned Sauce, Inc. that produces his special sauce in Newtopia.
- On Reddit, Matt Braly stated that Amphibia is as old as planet Earth,[12][13] and is as big as the staff need it to be, which he guessed was Australia-sized.[14]
- In Reddit, Braly suggested that time may flow differently between Earth and Amphibia.[15] In the third season, time passage between the two worlds appears to be consistent. At the 2021 SDCC, Matt confirmed time moves the same, so Anne has been gone from LA on Earth for 5 months. This was confirmed in the episode "The New Normal".
- Its musical location in the multiverse is: "CDCED", according to Terri in "Escape to Amphibia".
- In a Twitch stream, Braly said there was no reason that the "Boiling Isles" from The Owl House would not be connected to Amphibia.[citation needed]
- Marcy's Journal: A Guide to Amphibia hardcover edition's dust jacket has the map of Amphibia, which also has two different sentences in the Amphibian alphabet.
