The octopus^[2] (タコ^[3], tako^?) is an animal that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is an eight-limbed mollusk that can be caught during the Fishing Spot minigame.

Description[]

Based on the real-life East Pacific red octopus (Octopus rubescens), the octopus is an eight limbed orange-colored mollusk. Its head is shaped like a balloon and is 'pulled back', with a funnel at the back. Its eyes appear underneath its head with with small eyes pointing outwards and appearing fully closed. It has suction cups on the inside of all of its limbs. The limbs themselves appear pointy at the front but are flexible.

In Sonic Frontiers, the octopus is one of many collectible fishes to be earned in the Fishing Spot minigame hosted by Big the Cat. Depending on its location, it is worth a varying amount of Treasure Tokens: 6 tokens in Northern Fishing Spot, and 12 tokens in Eastern Fishing Spot.^[2][4]

Sonic Boom[]

In Sonic Boom television series, a giant octopus with a mussels attached to its body, is found by Tails, which he hopes can be his pet. However, Tails quickly changes his mind when the octopus attempts to eat him.^[5] It briefly appears a second time after it is flung out of the sea alongside other sea life, the octopus landing on top of Tails' head.^[6]
