Collect these heart-shaped items, "Amy's Memory Tokens," to free Amy. Amy's Memory Tokens can be obtained by exploring the island, fishing and with Cyloop.
The Memory Token (メモリーアイテム,Memorī Aitemu?, lit. "Memory Item") is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Scattered all around the Starfall Islands, they are used to free Sonic's friends from Cyber Cages and to stabilize them in Open Zones in order to conduct conversations. As each island is home to a different one of Sonic's friends, and the tokens appear different on each island, they are called Amy's Memory Tokens[1] (エミーのメモリーアイテム,Emī no Memorī Aitemu?, lit. "Amy's Memory Item"), Knuckles' Memory Tokens[2] (ナックルズのメモリーアイテム[3],Nakkuruzu no Memorī Aitemu?, lit. "Knuckles' Memory Item"), Tails' Memory Tokens[4] (テイルスのメモリーアイテム[5],Teirusu no Memorī Aitemu?, lit. "Tails' Memory Item") and Sage's Memory Tokens[6] (セージのメモリーアイテム[7],Sēji no Memorī Aitemu?, lit. "Sage's Memory Item"); however, all tokens can be used to interact with Sage on whatever island she is found.
Memory Tokens have different appearances based on which of the Starfall Islands they are collected on. Their appearances relate to the character Sonic rescues on that island and the Kocos he helps along his journey; however, regardless of their appearance, all Tokens can be used on Sage, even if they do not visually match. All Memory Tokens glow in a certain color and leave a luminescent trail and particles in that color when they move. They appear as follows:
Amy's Memory Tokens and Sage's Memory Tokens found on Kronos Island and Ouranos Island are pink, heart-shaped gems shaped like hearts, relating to Amy's romantic nature and her quest to reunite a Koco with its lost lover. They glow pink.
Knuckles' Memory Tokens found on Ares Island are golden military medals emblazoned with five-pointed stars and hung on red ribbons decorated with a white crescent reminiscent of the mark on Knuckles' chest. Their military design relates to Knuckles' combative nature and to the war being fought by the inhabitants of Ares Island, which is named for the Ancient Greek god of war. They glow orange.
Tails' Memory Tokens found on Chaos Island resemble an adjustable wrench, representing Tails' interest in mechanics and the work done by the military engineers on Chaos Island. They glow yellow.
Rhea Island, having no characters to interact with, is the only Starfall Island with no Memory Tokens to be found.
Overview[]
In Sonic Frontiers, the Memory Tokens can be collected in four of the five Open Zone fields. Sonic can free Amy, Knuckles and Tails from their Cyber Cages by sending the Tokens one by one from his hand into the Cyber Cage, causing it to burst open and freeing his friend. Each character's Cage requires a set amount of Tokens to open:
On Kronos Island, the player has to collect 6 Memory Tokens to save Amy.
On Ares Island, freeing Knuckles requires 30 Tokens.
On Chaos Island, Tails can be released with 20 Memory Tokens.
After freeing Sonic's friends, Memory Tokens can continue to be given to Sonic's friends when they are encountered in the Open Zone, appearing as flickering green projections, to stabilize their frequency and gain access to their to story quests.[8] The characters appear as silhouetted icons of their own heads, which are black for optional Side Story interactions and colored Main Story icons are for interactions required to advance the story.
Sage also appears in all Open Zones save for Rhea Island, also marked on the map by a symbol of her head, and can be given Memory Tokens to unlock her own Side Story scenes; on most islands these are optional, though on Ouranos Island some are required to advance the plot. Unlike Amy, Tails, or Knuckles, Sage appears as her normal self instead of a green-tinted projection, maintaining her natural digital appearance.
Obtaining Memory Tokens[]
Memory Tokens in Open Zone fields are scattered around different places, either floating on a platform or in mid-air with or without a trail of Rings. The player has to reach to the item's location by passing through linear obstacle courses while using common gimmicks such as Springs, Dash Panels, Jump Panels, Dash Rings or Rainbow Rings. Certain enemies also drop singular Memory Tokens after being defeated. Performing the Cyloop on certain patches of ground, such as some puzzle marks with treasure box icons, can uncover around eight Memory Tokens in a circle. When being found in groups, the player can also use Light Dash to collect all Memory Tokens in a fast way.
All marked locations of Memory Tokens on the Open Zone can be checked and spotted in the map menu. However, only surrounding areas that are revealed by completing Challenges will be displayed, including locations of Memory Tokens.[9] Additional amount of Memory Tokens can be bought separately with Treasure Tokens or Gold Cards received by clearing the Fishing Spot minigame hosted by Big the Cat. Each Memory Token costs five Treasure Tokens when the player chooses it in the "Trade Tokens" store.
If the player pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition of Sonic Frontiers with "The Explorer's Treasure Box" bonus, Sonic begins the game with 40 of Amy's Memory Tokens.[10]
