Cyber corruption[1] (サイバー浸食[2],Saibā shinshoku?, lit. "Cyber erosion") is a condition that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is an affliction caused by exposure to the energy of the Ancients' Cyber Space[3].
Cyber corruption is the result of prolonged exposure to cyber-energy. As displayed by Sonic, the symptoms include one's body developing a dark pixelated pattern, a glowing cyan/red glitching aura, extreme pain, physical weakness, and coughing. It is also suggested that the ailment may limit the user's abilities, as Amy notes that she is unable to fully utilize her Piko Piko Hammer. In the final stages, the victim is "stuck between realities," left paralyzed and incapacitated, with their soul trapped in Cyber Space.[4]
That being said, cyber corruption is not without its benefits. Sonic was granted anewtechnique after each exposure, and with the aid of the Master King, was able to harness and control the corruption to boost his power as Super Sonic.

Sonic Frontiers[]
During the Starfall Islandsincident, Sonic was afflicted with cyber corruption as he freed Tails, Knuckles and Amy from their Cyber Cages. His condition continued to deteriorate until he shut down the towers on Rhea Island, rendering him paralyzed and inert while freeing his friends, Dr. Eggman and The End from Cyber Space.
With no other way to stop The End, Sonic's friends sacrificed their physical forms to restore Sonic, sending them back into Cyber Space as he returned to normal.
As Sonic explored Ouranos Island, Sage suggested an alternative plan, reviving Sonic's friends and using her own power to stave off Sonic's cyber corruption while they gathered the Chaos Emeralds.
By undergoing the Trials of the Masters, Sonic was able to harness and control his cyber corruption, using it to assume a more powerful Super Sonic 2 form.
During the final showdown with the possessed Supreme Titan, Sonic unleashed the full power of his cyber corruption, transforming into a cyber-colored version of Super Sonic to destroy both the Supreme and The End once and for all.
