The Chaos Engine[1] (カオス指数[2] Kaosu Shisū?, lit. "Chaos Exponent"), also known as the Emerald Engine,[3] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are smaller versions of the Chaos Emerald Vaults, usually sealing the purple Chaos Emerald and found on top of all Titans (except Supreme).

Description[]

The Chaos Engine are small devices, resembling Chaos Emerald Vaults. Akin to the regular vaults, the Chaos Engines have three spines, although much smaller, as well holding the Chaos Emerald in the between the 3 spines. The Engines are also supported by a small, silver sphere-like structure.

Overview[]

In Sonic Frontiers, the Chaos Engines are located on top of Giganto, Wyvern and Knight, thus requiring the other six Chaos Emeralds to be claimed in order to access the Titan.[4][5][6] The Chaos Engines are unlocked similarily to the other Emeralds located in Vaults, by pressing the Switch y/Square/X button. Once the Engine is unlocked, Sonic will claim the Emerald, and automatically turn into Super Sonic.[4]

Unlike the regular Vaults, however, no Vault Keys are required. The Chaos Engines are also shown to hold the purple Chaos Emerald for the majority of the time.

In The Final Horizon, the vaults on Ouranos Island are empty, and the six emeralds could only be found in Chaos Engines.
