Sonic before pushing his cyber corruption to its limits, Sonic Frontiers

Super Sonic Cyber[note 2] is a transformation that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is the state Super Sonic achieves by fully harnessing and mastering his cyber corruption to its utmost limits. During the climax against the The End, Sonic, as Super Sonic 2, fully utilized this power in order to defeat the entity. After using it in this one occasion, Sonic lost the form along with his cyber corruption permanently.[note 3]

Appearance[]

SuperSonicCyberFullbody

Super Sonic Cyber, from Sonic Frontiers.

When Super Sonic 2 pushes himself to his limits, he allows the cyber corruption to fully subsume him, causing him to become completely black with a glowing cyan glitching effect affecting his body. His golden and electric red auras become white and cyan electric sparks. Sonic also undergoes a marked physical change in this state, with his eyes becoming grey with black rings and his teeth becoming sharpened, giving him a frenzied appearance.

Overview[]

In Sonic Frontiers, Super Sonic Cyber is the advanced state of Super Sonic 2 that Sonic achieved by harnessing and mastering the cyber corruption. The transformation only appears in The Final Horizon’s ending.

As a last resort, Sonic pushed his cyber corruption to its utmost limits, allowing it to fully subsume him. Dr. Eggman used Supreme's rifle to shoot Sonic at The End. By performing a vastly stronger and faster variation of Wild Rush, Sonic completely obliterates Supreme and blasts through The End. Sonic immediately reverted back to Super Sonic, unconscious and drifting in the earth's orbit and sustaining battle damage. Just before transforming into the form, he also apologizes to Master King, in reference to his earlier warnings of the cost of going all out.

Powers and abilities[]

As Super Sonic Cyber, Sonic retains all of the powers of his previous forms but with an enormous increase in raw strength and speed. Super Sonic Cyber is powerful enough to annihilate Supreme and ram through The End with ease, whereas Super Sonic, in the normal ending of Sonic Frontiers, took longer to completely run through the fake moon. Super Sonic Cyber's cyber corruption also prevented The End from releasing its self-destruct attack.

Weaknesses[]

Using this form requires that Sonic must allow his cyber corruption to subsume him, which results in a painful transformation. The form additionally burns out the corruption entirely, making Sonic permanently lose access to this form and Super Sonic 2. Usage of the form is implied to be extraordinarily physically taxing and damaging, as Super Sonic was rendered unconscious and severely injured after its use.

Trivia[]

  • Just like Super Sonic 2, the name Super Sonic Cyber is not an official name, but rather the code name found in the game files, used to differentiate itself from said-form and Super Sonic's code names; "supersonic.pac" and "supersonic2.pac". In this instance, however, "cyber" is related more to a corrupted state like the code name for Sonic's corrupted state; "soniccyber.pac".
  • Super Sonic Cyber slightly resembles the Sonic the Comic version of Super Sonic, with both sharing the eyes having rings and their teeth becoming sharpened. Whether this was intentional or not is unknown.
  • When transforming into Super Sonic Cyber, in the Japanese version, Sonic screams more than once, emphasizing how much in pain he is in. Additionally, while transforming, his voice also glitches. In other languages, the additional screams were removed, but the glitchy noises are still present.
  • Super Sonic Cyber is the only transformation to not be physically controlled by the player as it was only featured in a cinematic cutscene.

Notes[]

  1. During his huge attack against Supreme, Super Sonic Cyber performs what it seems to be a move similar to Wild Rush.
  2. In the files of Sonic Frontiers as of The Final Horizon, this transformation is listed as "supersoniccyber.pac".
  3. The Master King states to Sonic that "if used recklessly the power will leave you entirely." Where later during the battle Sonic says "Sorry, Master King. Looks like I'm going all-out after all," disobeying the Master King's orders meaning the power should have left him.
