Mucus is a green slime-like mushroom-based general Sporix Beast in Power Rangers Dino Fury, the second member of the Void Family to hatch, Void Knight's first general, and one of the secondary antagonists of the show. She makes her first appearance in the episode "Sporix Unleashed". After several battles and the defeat of Void Queen, Mucus and Slyther redeemed themselves, founding a magic show together and becoming allies of the Cosmic Fury Rangers in their war against Lord Zedd.
History[]
Past[]
Over 65 million years ago, Mucus and the other Sporix Beasts were created on Rafkon, the home planet of Zayto, but eventually turned against their creators and desired to destroy all life in the universe. Though Zayto and his fellow Knights of Rafkon fought hard, the Sporix ravaged Rafkon and removed all traces of life from the planet. The Sporix then turned their attention to Earth but Zayto and the remaining Knights had managed to escape Rafkon and tracked the Sporix Beasts to Earth where they engaged them in battle with the help of the dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures. Despite the Knights initially having the upper-hand against the Sporix, most of them grew enough in power over time to grow giant and force the Knights of Rafkon and their dinosaur allies to retreat. When all seemed lost however, the Morphin Masters arrived and bestowed the Morphin Grid's powers to Zayto and his followers, as the first Ancient Dino Fury Rangers which gave them the advantage they need to defeat the Sporix Beasts and seal them inside of their eggs.
Dino Fury Season 1[]
When the other Sporix are accidentally released in the modern day during Void Knight's invasion of Dinohenge, Mucus is amongst the Sporix Beasts that escape. TV STORY-Destination Dinohenge
During the BuzzBlast presentation of J-Borg, Mucus hatches near Pine Ridge Dam and attacks a random hiker who wanted to poke her egg with a stick. Having seen her hatching on a TV, the Dino Fury Rangers confront her and are not impressed with the monster having the same name as snot. When she claims that she intends to destroy the city, they morph and confront Mucus who charges but is reduced to a big puddle of green goo by a single energy slash from Zayto's Chromafury Saber. However, she very quickly reforms after Shockhorn arrives and summons the Hengemen for help and is initially attacked since he hates being called horsey but she swears fealty to the Void Knight and they join forces before teleporting away. Mucus later accompanies both Shockhorn and Void Knight to force Dr. Akana to use the Knight's scanner alongside her drone to locate more Sporix. However, thanks to the Rangers distracting the villains, Akana sends the drone right down on Shockhorn which destroys it alongside the scanner and forcing her to escape with Void Knight. After the defeat of Shockhorn, Void Knight takes Mucus to his base in Area 62 and puts the Sporix in his machine before telling her that they will have to find more Sporix. TV STORY-Sporix Unleashed
Mucus spots Vypeera and the Rangers also show up which makes Mucus want to hide from them. However, Vypeera uses the eyes on her chest to immobilize Zayto and attacks the frozen Ranger on the spot. Ollie and Amelie try to fight her but, due to her powers, they struggle to fight her without looking at her. Even though she is winning against the two, Vypeera retreats with Mucus after the latter finds a discarded camcorder and wants to use it for a greater plan. Vypeera and Mucus set up a recording station on the roof of BuzzBlast where they hijack the website by sending out her own video so that everyone who looks at the video immediately freezes in place. However, Zayto (having been freed thanks to Solon) teleports in blindfolded. Using the Sonic Dino Key, Zayto enhances his hearing and attacks Vypeera, managing to hold his own before destroying her laptop and ending the broadcast which forces Mucus to retreat. TV STORY-Lost Signal
Mucus returns to Area 62 with a new Sporix Beast for the Army called Draknarok and sees her boss building a new soldier named Boomtower. She later goes with Boomtower and Draknarok to the museum to take the Nephrite Orb which she takes it and they face the Rangers. However, they lost the Orb during the fight but turned into slime and latches onto Javi's car to follow him and informs Boomtower and Draknarok that Javi has the Orb. TV STORY-New Recruits
Mucus joins Boomtower when Brineblast hatches before the three fights the Rangers and Mucus flees quickly. Later on, she is sent with Boomtower with a drill bomb to destroy the Tiger Claw Zord so Mucus activates the drill and asks Boomtower when the drill bomb reaches the Zord. They are interrupted by Izzy arriving and, after a brief fight with Boomtower, he teleports himself and Mucus away from the area back to the base believing their plan succeeded. However, Izzy manages to destroy the drill before it can reach her Zord and she uses it to defeat Brineblast. TV STORY-Winning Attitude
Mucus is seen sitting on Void Knight's throne making fun of him despite Boomtower defending him. She later points out a secret door opening and seeing Void Knight emerge from there and greets him wanting to know what's in there. He allows her to see only for her to be electrocuted and then is threatened alongside Boomtower by Void Knight for being failures, telling them to either succeed or he'll destroy them. Finding the speech on not to be destroyed motivating, Mucus teleports out, volunteering to succeed against the Rangers. Mucus teleports in to see Smashstone fighting off the Rangers and is able to steal Amelia's Morpher due to the confusion as Izzy, Javi and Amelia were knocked down and with Zayto and Ollie engaging with Smashstone. She later invites the Sporix Beast to meet Void Knight and the two teleport after some playful hitting on the back of the head. Back at the base, Void Knight congratulates Mucus in stealing the Morpher, saying she finally did something right. When Boomtower asks why they can't just teleport into the Rangers' base normally, she sarcastically says the base has a force field preventing them from going in. Due to Mucus' action, Void Knight repairs the Morpher and has Boomtower uses it to infiltrate the Rangers' base to steal the Sporix. TV STORY-Superstition Strikes
Boomtower gets restless because he was created to be muscle and destroy, not to sit and wait. He steals Brineblast's Sporix, ignoring Mucus' objections and fights the Rangers with her and the Henchmen. When Void Knight discovers it, he becomes mad. Mucus says that she tries to stop him and the villains retreat. She later teleports in to go to Boomtower who had shrunk due to losing against the new Megazord formation saying that he's still alive and shouldn't feel bad. The two later teleport back to their base as the Rangers try to finish off Boomtower. TV STORY-Stego Search
Mucus watches the Rangers destroy Doomsnake with Void Knight and Wolfgang and is later sent to grab Doomsnake's Sporix as the Rangers were distracted with their broken Megazord. Off-screen, she is able to grab Doomsnake's Sporix and overhears Mick talking to the Rangers about the Nexus Prism which interests her to tell Void Knight about this before teleporting. Later on, she watches the Rangers demolish Boomtower with their new Megazord Formation and yells at Wolfgang to help Boomtower out, showing concern for her partner. However, this action led to Wolfgang being impaled by the Tiger Claw Zord's lance and she realizes this was a bad call. But this did help to her advantage as Wolfgang was destroyed, she was able to grab his Sporix Cell rather easily with a baseball mitt though she was saddened he couldn't sing at her birthday party. Later she was on the bridge trying to to nab another Sporix as Boomtower was destroyed, trying to go for 2 for 2, but is pushed by Izzy who grabbed the Sporix. When she demands Izzy to hand it over saying that it is Void Knight's, Izzy charges at her playfully to which Mucus teleports away in fear. Later at the base, she explains to an annoyed Void Knight that Boomtower got destroyed, but provides him with good news that she at least got Wolfgang's Sporix to which Void Knight takes from her believing it's at least something. Void Knight leaves her to go into his secret room annoyed with how his plans are not succeeding enough, with Mucus understanding her boss needs some alone time. TV STORY-Unexpected Guest
Mucus later ignores Void Knight's instructions about a giant balloon that's meant to disrupt the Rangers' teleportation, mistaking it for a birthday balloon and releases it before Void Knight's signal, causing it to get caught in a tree. This act of ignorance is witnessed by the Rangers. TV STORY-Cut Off
Mucus helped Void Knight create a new robot which they call Slyther and installed the robot's data before Void Knight inserts a Sporix into his body and activates him. Upon coming online, Slyther makes Mucus upset and she felt bad before seeing Void Knight give the new general a mission. Mucus and Void Knight realized that Slyther managed to enter the Rangers' base. After Slyther was defeated and electrocuted, causing him to lose his memory, Mucus went looking for him and lied to him saying they were best friends and together they returned to Area 62. TV STORY-Phoning Home
Mucus reminds Tombtress of her mission: To find the Blazing Dino Key at McClary Manor and bring it to Void Knight. She also complains about the monster's stinky bandages, so they take showers upon returning to Area 62.

Mucus later accompanies Slyther in an attack with a group of Hengemen, briefly defeating Zayto with her spear gun and unsuccessfully trying to attack Aiyon with it but fails and she has to retreat when cornered. After stealing a boat with the Hengemen, the duo use the parts to create a new general for Void Knight, Wreckmate, who is tasked with destroying the Mosa Razor Zord. Later, she treats the newly-built general to ice cream. TV STORY-Ancient History (Dino Fury)
Mucus is at the park where she witnesses Izzy carelessly trying to deactivate one of Void Knight's sleep bombs and putting Javi and Aiyon to sleep accidentally by removing the wrong component. She brings the deactivated sleep bomb back and tries to tell Void Knight about it, but he angrily tells her he's trying to concentrate. After the Rangers defeat two of the Stone Triplets after defeating the first one, Mucus claims them, and teleports away. TV STORY-Crossed Wires
Boneswitch demonstrates his power by switching the bodies of Mucus and Slyther only to switch them back seconds later. TV STORY-The Makeover
Mucus is up late at night in Area 62 wondering what the lever on the Sporix machine does. Mucus pulls the lever of the machine, and it emits purple smoke, complete with music and flashing lights. Void Knight comes over and expresses frustration at how she’s now the coolest person in the world. Mucus begins to dance, wearing a golden outfit and glasses with the Hengemen joining in as well. She is then quickly woken up by Slyther, revealing that it was a dream, and he tells her to quickly let go of the Sporix machine lever that she was sleeping on. She does so, as Void Knight approaches and tells them to find more Sporix to power up his machine. Mucus remarks that they know, but complains that it’s taking too long. TV STORY-Waking Nightmares
Mucus and Slyther (with Reaghoul and a resurrected Boomtower) help Void Knight kidnap Dr. Akana who is thrown into a vortex. Reaghoul also throws Mucus and Slyther in there with her after Void Knight leaves. After their failure, Mucus and Slyther flee to Area 62. TV STORY-Secret Santa

After Slyther is forced to reform Mucus (much to thier disgust), Void Knight (having survived his apparent death) contacts them them via a screen. When asking if that's the real Void Knight, Bitscreem teleports in and threatens to destroy them if they dare to question Void Knight again. TV STORY-Numero Uno
Mucus is horrified at the arrival of a seaweed creature at Area 62 but Slyther reassures her that it is just a Sporix Beast. However, the being discards the seaweed to reveal that it is Wreckmate who survived his previous destruction and has returned to serve Void Knight. TV STORY-The Festival
After Void Queen takes control of Area 62, Mucus along with Slyther and Wreckmate join her, putting their allegiance to her above that of Void Knight, in addition to that from this episode he would be seen with a hand fan to give air to Void Queen. In this same episode, she suggests to Squashblight that he use his poison in the river, something that pleases Void Queen but annoys Void Knight, who tries to convince Void Queen to forget his revenge and leave the plant in a ship, to which Mucus notes that this ship was for two and that neither she nor Slyther nor Wreckmate could fit in it, suggesting that Void Knight intended to abandon it along with the other generals once Santaura woke up. TV STORY-New Leaf
After Void Knight defected, she seems angry at this fact, as he never showed any appreciation for the details she did for him, although she is happy when she finds out that he was wearing the cologne she bought him when Trackenslash sniffs his throne to find him. She then accompanies Trackenslash and Slyther when they were sent to look for him. After finding him, an angry Mucus tells him how angry she felt for her betrayal and that he regretted buying that cologne from her. After a short fight with the Rangers, they leave the place to look for Tarrick who had escaped. TV STORY-Serious Business
She finds a collar similar to one of a dog and puts it on which makes her grow like a giant, something that excites her, but she is attacked by some birds that end up knocking her down and in turn returning her to her normal size. After this she takes the necklace to Area 62 and gives it to Void Queen. Intrigued by the power of the collar, Santaura goes to the machine and pulls out a Sporix Cell. It hatches into Flapnarok, the sister to Draknarok and Santaura tells Mucus to give the former the collar. Mucus refuses to out of the 'finders keepers' rule, but Santaura zaps her from her and the collar flies into Flapnarok's hands. TV STORY-Losers Weepers
Mucus watches as Javi is accused of copying a song and is inspired to create a plan for them to copy the rangers' attacks, something that Void Queen rejects as she already had her own plans in motion. Later Mucus ends up competing at the last minute in the same competition as Javi in broadcasting live where she is seen on a stage with several Hengemen as her dancers and she sings the same song that was heard in the background in his dream in the episode "Waking Nightmares". However, she couldn't finish her presentation as Slyther and Wreckmate appeared, Slyther was angry that Mucus didn't include him for that presentation and Wreckmate decides to ruin the presentation by attacking Mucus before finishing. TV STORY-The Copycat

She wishes for a hat of her own, but as a consequence, temporarily becomes human. She reverts to her true form after Hexcurio is defeated by the Rangers.
She hitches a ride on Warden Garcia's car when he takes Rina, Javi, and Izzy to the construction site, and, un-noticed by them, learns the passcode for the drill key. This makes it possible for Void King to drill into Dinohenge, and steal the Sporix.
Mucus accompanies Void Queen to BuzzBlast, however when Void Queen creates her cocoon, Mucus makes the mistake of touching it and is destroyed, reverting to her unhatched form which is then absorbed into the cocoon. TV STORY-The Truth
After the Nemesis Beast is destroyed and Santaura restored to normal, Mucus is revealed to have survived, as she is seen flowing away in slime form, giggling. This makes her the only Sporix Beast not to be reclaimed by the Morphin Masters. Six months later, it is revealed that she reunited with Slyther and the two have opened their own circus called Dr Sly's Magical Mushroom Circus, advertised by flyers near Aiyon's Café. TV STORY-The Nemesis
Cosmic Fury[]
Mucus and Slyther continue their circus, until Lord Zedd invaded Earth and destroyed their tent.
Aiyon eventually caught up with them after a performance, and, despite being human, recognized them. After reading their thoughts, Aiyon brought them back to the Rangers, intending to use them to find the Triceratops statue that is corrupting Ollie. As Mucus continued expressing her hatred of being human, Zayto destroys the Wish Charm she used to return her back to her original look. After destroying Squillia Naire, Slyther masqueraded as her while Mucus pretended to be 'Squilla's' lawyer in order to reach Eltar. Although they manage to destroy the statue, they were caught soon after, and Ollie, pretending to still be evil, has them contained with Mucus in a small jar. TV STORY-Switching Sides
Ollie, Mucus, and Slyther were eventually rescued by the Rangers, who take on Zedd, who was then betrayed by Bajillia Naire before capturing the Rangers. TV STORY-Master Plan
Mucus and Slyther rescue the Rangers in a seized Squidrill and help provide their escape, until the Squidrill was destroyed and they helplessly float around space. Mucus and Slyther were eventually rescued and were working on stage lighting during Javi's concert. TV STORY-The End
Personality[]
Personality-wise, Mucus is very much like a child, eager to fight anyone she sees as being in the way, including Dr. Akana. However, she also has a child-like mentality, repeatedly asking Void Knight, "Are we there yet?" much to his annoyance. She seems to like dark, damp places like Area 62. Eventually she is also very cowardly when confronted by a direct threat as she seems scared of the Rangers after their last fight. Despite her cowardice, she seems to be rather sneaky, as seen when she overheard the Rangers talking about the missing Zords and grabbed Amelia's Morpher sneakily.
This makes her seem better fit for stealth missions rather than combat which she mostly stays out of and cheers on her fellow teammates like Boomtower or other Sporix Beasts. Being a child at heart, she likes birthday parties, and is especially fond of chocolate cake. Additionally, she has an interest in making friends, as seen when she tried to befriend Slyther, which she succeeded in doing by using the new general's amnesia from his Megazord fight to her advantage. She also hates being human, as seen by her disgusted reaction to her human form.

Behind the Scenes[]
Portrayal[]
- Mucus is voiced by Torum Heng in her first acting role (usually being a writer for various shows). Heng appeared as Mucus' human form in Wishful Thinking and The Nemesis. Her suit actress in Super Sentai footage from Ryusoulger is Naoko Kamio (神尾 直子 Kamio Naoko). Her suit actor in Power Rangers footage is Kazuhiro Yokoyama (横山 和博 Yokoyama Kazuhiro).
Design[]
- Mucus resembles a mushroom.
- In original footage made for the show, Mucus's eyes are colored magenta rather than red like her Sentai counterpart Kleon's were and have larger irises and smaller pupils.
Etymology[]
- Mucus' name comes from the term for the semi-adhesive substance produced by living organisms to lubricate the body and trap invasive agents, also called "snot" when it comes from the nose, which is likely derived from her nature and appearance as a mushroom-shaped mass of slime.
Notes[]
- Unlike most Sporix Beasts, Mucus does not have the ability to grow to giant size. However, she did temporarily become a giant after trying on the Growth Collar.
- Draknarok says that a Sporix Beast can grow if it fights long enough, but Mucus hardly fights; this might explain why she does not have the ability to become a giant.
- Mucus is the only general in Dino Fury to be a Sporix Beast or even a living creature in general. All the other generals in the show were robots.
- Mucus is the only Sporix Beast to have survived at the end of Dino Fury and the only one to return in Cosmic Fury.
