This article is about a/an mentor/Ranger in Power Rangers Ninja Steel and Super Ninja Steel. |
- "No, two words. Mick Kanic."
- ―Mick Kanic explains his name[src]
- "Ah! I love the feel of Ninja Steel! And the suit... still fits!"
- ―Mick in the Battle of Zordnia[src]
Mick Kanic is Brody and Redbot's shape-shifting friend who worked on the show Galaxy Warriors and later the mentor of the Ninja Rangers. During a battle with Galvanax, he temporarily became an additional Ninja Steel Red.
Mick returned in Power Rangers Dino Fury and guided the Dino Fury Rangers to the Ninja Nexus Prism. He returned in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury and had his Ninja Steel powers restored by Master Red to assist the Cosmic Fury Rangers.
History[]
Early Life[]
Ten years before Brody was captured, Mick was a resident of the Lion Galaxy, but was sold into slavery by the Royal Family, separating him from his family. Because of this, Mick became resentful of the Empire. TV STORY-The Royal Rumble
Ninja Steel[]
- "Brody, we are on a Space ship. Where are we going to escape to?"
- ―Mick asking Brody[src]
During his period as the head mechanic for the Warrior Dome, he befriended Brody Romero during his time as a prisoner and Redbot. After they overheard Madame Odius tell Galvanax about the Ninja Steel, he, Brody, and Redbot were forced to put their escape plan into action to prevent Galvanax from getting it. After a group of Kudabots ruined their original plan, they were forced to use the ship's trash chute. While falling to Earth, Mick was separated from the others and transformed into a boulder to land safely. TV STORY-Return of the Prism
Mick, in boulder form, was among the debris that landed in front of Hayley Foster and Calvin Maxwell. After Calvin kicked Mick, he changed back to his regular form, startling them. As he was explaining who he was and what was going on, a group of Kudabots appeared. After Hayley and Calvin fought them off, the group then drove off just before Ripcon appeared. As they arrived at Summer Cove High School's Auto Shop, Mick was mistaken for the new shop teacher by Principal Hastings, who took a liking to his personality and wit. Using the tools in the auto shop to repair his Datacom, he got in touch with Brody and Redbot, who were accompanied by Sarah Thompson and Preston Tien. As they were on the way to meet them, they were ambushed by the alien Ripperat. After the Rangers’ fight against Ripperat, he helped them establish a base within the school. TV STORY-Forged in Steel
Mick then soon became the team’s mentor, offering them advice when needed, and forging new Power Stars whenever the Ninja Nexus Prism would show a vision.
When the other Rangers’ Power Stars were captured by Galvanax, Mick helped Brody temporarily retreat. Confronted by Galvanax, Brody attempted to destroy his Power Star, separating it into three pieces. Those three pieces reformed into three complete Red Ninja Power Stars, allowing Mick temporary access to the Red Ninja Steel Red powers. TV STORY-Galvanax Rises After the Nexus Prism joined the Rangers in a final attack against Galvanax, it was completely drained. Without that power to sustain the Ninja Steel, Mick's star turned to dust along with the rest.
With Galvanax destroyed, Mick decided to return to the Lion Galaxy to meet his parents, but then returned back to Earth to help the Rangers defeat Madame Odius. TV STORY-Echoes of Evil When the Nexus Prism used Super Ninja Steel to recreate the Rangers' lost arsenal, it only created one Red Power Star for Brody; Mick therefore did not regain his powers as a Ninja Steel Ranger.
After Odius' final stand, Mick decided to remain on Earth as Summer Cove High's shop teacher, but set up a satellite link to the Lion Galaxy so he could remain in touch with his parents. TV STORY-Reaching the Nexus
Dino Fury[]
Following the defeat of Madame Odius, Mick started keeping the Legendary Ranger Database updated and even managed to meet over 40 Rangers from across the galaxy.
After tracking down the Ninja Nexus Prism to Dinohenge, he meets the Dino Fury Rangers and asks them to help him find it. However Zayto turns him down, saying that they had better things to do. However, when it's revealed Void Knight wanted the Nexus Prism, the Rangers had no option but to help him. With the database, he educated the Rangers and their mentor Solon about the Prism. Later, Mick helps the Rangers defeat Wolfgang by creating a No-Howl Drop and preventing him from using sonic waves against the Rangers' weapons and Zords. With the Nexus Prism having finished its mission, still unknown to Mick or any of the Rangers, Mick leaves to follow it. TV STORY-Unexpected Guest
Cosmic Fury[]
Mick would travel to the planet Zordnia as part of a research trip with Billy Cranston, the CEO of Cranston Technologies and Mighty Morphin Blue Ranger, with the two trying to find the famous Altar of Zordnia. Unfortunately, the planet was soon attacked by Squid Ink Inc., an evil organization that freed Lord Zedd from his recent captivity by the Morphin Masters. The Dino Fury Rangers soon arrived on the planet through a cosmic portal to fight the army of Zentinels, Billy morphed and joined the fight while Mick shapeshifted into a rock to stay hidden.
After Lord Zedd joined the battlefield, Doodrip threw poison at the Rangers (the poison being specifically meant for the Blue Ranger which corrupted him and made him evil) and Zayto was transported away from the fight by a portal Ollie opened using the Cosmic Dino Key while under the influence of Lord Zedd, Mick was approached by Master Red, who restored his Ninja Steel powers to even the odds, allowing Mick to morph into Ninja Steel Red once again. With his powers restored, Mick joined the fight to protect Izzy from Squillia. The fight was suddendly over after Squid Ink Inc. activated the Master Captivator created by Scrozzle to capture all the Morphin Masters, making the Rangers even more defenseless than before, forcing them to flee while Javi took the staff that Master Red dropped before being absorbed into the machine.
Javi took the team to the place he saw when he touched the staff of Master Red, which turned out to be the Altar of Zordnia, but the team was soon attacked by the Squidrill, which was being piloted by Ollie. After Javi used Master Red's staff to activate the altar, the Cosmic Fury Zords appeared to help them fight the drill. Unfortunately, Javi lost his arm as a result while trying to activate the altar, with Mick teleporting him away to take care of him while the rest of the team went to fight. Back at Dinohenge, Mick and Billy put word out to all the other Ranger teams so they could prepare for a possible invasion. He was also arguing with the team about what should be their next move, with him saying that needed help to access the Ninja Nexus Prism, only to be silenced by Solon on Amelia's orders. TV STORY-Lightning Strikes
Mick volunteers to search for Zayto as he has contacts all over the universe, borrowing the Cosmic Grizzly Zord to get around. TV STORY-Beyond Repair
Lani Akana gets a message from Mick, who says he found some clues about Zayto on Levvina. However, Ollie, who was present, informs Zedd. Mick later managed to contact the Rangers, telling them Zayto's location and warns them that Zedd's forces were also around. TV STORY-Off Grid
Ollie discovers Mick disguised as a rock, even going as far as insulting his hair, and discovers the latter had a piece of Zayto's cape, which he denies and claims it is just a scarf, until the Rangers arrive, now Cosmic Fury Rangers, even astonished by Javi's cybernetic arm. He then 'retraced his flaps' to show where he found the cape, having turned into a bird to catch it before discovering where Zayto had landed, his broken Saber, and learned that the forest absorbed Zayto into a tree to heal him. Mick then helped the Rangers take on Ollie in a Squidrill, using the Cosmic Eagle Zord, later borrowing it to return to the Lion Galaxy. TV STORY-Team Work
After Zedd was defeated and banished to Nibyro, Mick attends Javi's concert, where he, Aiyon, and Billy talk about how Aiyon inspired Javi to write a song, which included Zordon's phrase, which a subconscious being said to the former, which could've been Zordon himself, whom Billy was attempting to return. Amelia, while showing them her photo of her newborn sister, overhears it and wishes to join in on the search when Mick says Zordon may be like a ghost. Soon, Mick joins the other Rangers and their families to storm the stage and celebrate with Javi. TV STORY-The End
Personality[]
Mick is reliable, but can be a bit cowardly. He also gives good pep talks and words of advice. His way of giving advice is by giving the inverse of the right thing to do, making the Rangers realize what their mistake was. For example, when Sarah tries to do several things at once with her holo-clones, he tries to play several different musical instruments to demonstrate that it's better to focus on one thing at a time. It turns out that Mick also has a sense of humor.
Non-Ranger Powers and Abilities[]
Powers[]
- Shape-Shifting: Mick can change into anything he imagines, be it an organic or inorganic thing.
Abilities[]
- Mechanic Skills: Mick is exceptionally gifted with mechanical engineering and repair, being the top Mechanic on the Warrior Dome, hence his name.
- Power Rangers Knowledge: He also knows a great deal about the Power Rangers and their arsenals, more specifically the Ninja Nexus Prism.
- Skilled Blacksmith: Mick is a skilled blacksmith, being able to forge Ninja Steel and Super Ninja Steel into Ninja Stars for the Ninja Steel Rangers to use.
- Skilled Inventor: Mick is also a skilled inventor as he was the one who created the No-Howl Drop to neutralize Wolfgang's sonic howl.
Weaknesses[]
- Artifacts in Camouflage: Mick cannot entirely conceal himself within the objects he uses as disguises, leaving, for instance, a shock of his own hair exposed. This can make him too easy to spot in his surroundings.
Non-Ranger Arsenal[]
- Datacom: A wristwatch-like device, much like the Communicators used from MMPR to Turbo. Originally connected to the Warrior Dome's main computer, it is used for communication, looking up information and also contacting the Rangers.
- Communicator: While visiting Pine Ridge and meeting the Dino Fury Rangers, Mick got a communicator to communicate with others and teleport. He returned it when he left to follow the Nexus Prism.

Etymology[]
- Mick is often a shortening of Mickey, which in turn may or may not be a shortening of Michael and its variant names. Michael is derived from Ancient Hebrew meaning "he who is like El (i.e. Yahweh)".
- Mick's full name is a play on the word "mechanic."
- This is acknowledged by Ollie Akana, in where he confuses Mick's full name as "Mechanic".
Notes[]
- Mick and Dane are the only members of the team to not be given morphing sequences. They also are the only two members to never use a Ninja Power Star except their own transformation stars.
