Lost Signal is the third episode of Power Rangers Dino Fury.[1] It marks the debut appearances of the Tricera Blade Zord, Ankylo Hammer Zord, and Dino Fury Megazord, as well as the Sonic, Hover, and Reverse Dino Keys.

Synopsis[]

The Rangers intercept a mysterious message from outer space and Zayto is desperate to know if it was sent from his home planet. Unable to decipher it and losing hope, he remembers another important message from the past.

Plot[]

Sitting down at Dinohenge, Zayto reflects how far away he is from Rafkon while holding a pendant. He remembers that he received the pendant from his mother as a gift for becoming a knight, telling him never to give up when all things seem hopeless. Amelia sees the pendant and asks Zayto what Rafkon is like, the latter calling it home before the Sporix decimated it. Even though there were a few survivors from the attack, Zayto does not know if anybody out there is still alive after being gone for millions of years. Zayto asks Amelia if Solon got the Tricera Blade and Ankylo Hammer Zords online, but while the latter said that she has not yet, they found something on the commlink he might like to hear. The two teleport down to the chamber as Solon revealed that she received an intergalactic message from space in the same galaxy Rafkon is located in. Unfortunately, when attempting to play it, the commlink fries up due to an overload, and the modulator burns, making it impossible to hear the message. Amelia believes they might get some help from Madame Indigo, a psychic that can do mystical communications, but Ollie tells Zayto that psychics are frauds and suggests that they go to the observatory and ask the local scientist. Zayto decides to do both ideas, starting with Amelia’s idea.

The trio goes to the local fair to see Jane getting a session with Madame Indigo, who tells her to shield her eyes with her scarf to unlock her full potential. Jane does so, hoping to use this skill to find a Sporix cell for the Rangers, but struggles to find her bearings as J-Borg follows her. Zayto asks Indigo about the message, using his pendant as an energy source, but only gets the information he already knew. Dissatisfied with the message, Ollie pretends he and Amelia are a couple and asks her a question about their future together, getting another generic message from Indigo. As the Rangers leave, Ollie said that he only pretended to be a couple with Amelia to prove that Indigo was a fraud. Zayto decides to go with Ollie’s idea next.

Meanwhile, a blind Jane continues to wander the city, almost stepping into fast-drying cement as J-Borg did. J-Borg notices a Sporix Cell beginning to hatch, but Jane is too far away to notice and unknowingly hitches a ride on a school bus. The Sporix Cell hatches into Vypeera, who starts attacking civilians, just as J-Borg calls the Ranger hotline about the Sporix Beast’s appearance. The Rangers get the message from Solon and teleport to Vypeera’s location, with Mucus teleporting in as well. Vypeera showcases her ability to freeze people with her chest eyes, using them against Zayto before attacking the frozen Ranger. Keeping their eyes averted from Vypeera, Ollie and Amelia morph but find it difficult to fight her without looking at her. Meanwhile, Mucus finds the camcorder J-Borg dropped and gets an idea, convincing Vypeera to leave with her. Ollie and Amelia check on Zayto, and they head out to the observatory to find out if they found out what the message said. Unfortunately, the scientist said they could not find a match, disheartening Zayto as he leaves to be alone.

Amelia gets a call from Stan, who asks her to come back to BuzzBlast for help, explaining that while their broadband connection is okay, they cannot broadcast any of their content. Suddenly, Vypeera appears in a video, using her abilities to freeze the entire city of Pine Ridge as Mucus puts the video on a loop. Solon gets the video back in the chamber as well, but before Zayto could tell her to turn it off, he gets frozen as well. Fortunately, Solon turns off the video, freeing Zayto, who figures out that her cyborg eyes made her immune to Vypeera’s powers. Solon finds out that the video is being streamed from the rooftop of BuzzBlast, and Zayto cannot contact Ollie and Amelia, realizing that they got affected. Zayto is at a loss of what to do as he cannot fight Vypeera without looking at her, and he cannot figure out what the message was. Solon takes note of Zayto’s pendant, realizing that it was comprised of the same material as the modulator, and believes she can use it to decipher the message. Recalling what his mother told him millions of years ago, Zayto refuses to give up against Vypeera and looks for a new approach. He sees the Sonic Dino Key from the Boost Key rack, realizing that if he can only hear, he does not need to see to fight.

Zayto teleports blindfolded to the BuzzBlast rooftop and activates the Sonic Dino Key, amplifying his hearing. With this new advantage, Zayto manages to take on Vypeera as Mucus teleports away and hears the video coming from her laptop. Zayto destroys the laptop, cancelling the video as everyone, including Ollie and Amelia, is free from their frozen state. Angry that her plan is ruined, Vypeera sets her sights on destroying Zayto, only for a morphed Ollie and Amelia to teleport in and defend their friend. Jumping off the rooftop, Vypeera grows into a giant.

Because the Tricera Blade and Ankylo Hammer Zords are still not ready, Solon first sends Zayto the T-Rex Champion Zord to deal with Vypeera, and he converts it into its Battle Mode. However, Zayto struggles to fight her without looking at her. Thankfully, Solon tells Ollie and Amelia that their Zords are finally ready and sends them in. Ollie and Amelia have their Zords attack Vypeera, and the former gets an idea on how to stop the Sporix Beast. Ollie has the Tricera Blade Zord cut a section of the road into a square. In contrast, Amelia has the Ankylo Hammer Zord smash the square into rubble. Then, Amelia uses the Hover Dino Key to send the rubble in Vypeera’s direction. Ollie uses the Reverse Dino Key to reform it back into a road, completely covering Vypeera’s chest eyes. Under Zayto’s instructions, Ollie and Amelia use their Dino Fury Keys to combine their Zords with the T-Rex Champion Zord, forming the Dino Fury Megazord as they join him in the cockpit. The new Megazord overpowers Vypeera before defeating her with the Mega Slash, reverting her to a Sporix Cell. Before Void Knight can get his hands on it, the Rangers get to it first and teleport away, much to his fury.

Ollie places the Sporix Cell back into the case back in the chamber as Zayto thanks his mother for reminding him never to give up when things look bad. After finishing a new modulator for the commlink, Solon activates it, only to hear that the message is in a language none of them can translate. Despite that, Zayto is hopeful that the message came from Rafkon and uses the commlink to send out his message to his homeworld, asking if anyone from his planet is still out there.

Dino Fury Keys[]

Dino Fury Keys in Lost Signal:

Errors[]

  • When Vypeera jumps down from the building rooftop, a small group of three civilians are seen still sitting in the back when they should have been running from the monster.
  • It's never revealed what happened to Jane after she boarded the school bus, nor how J- Borg freed her foot from the cement bucket.

Notes[]

  • Total Sporix Beasts Collected:
    • Void Knight: 1
    • Dino Fury Rangers: 1
  • Void Knight merely has a cameo at the end to reclaim Vypeera after she is destroyed, only for the Rangers to take her instead.
  • The Hengemen are absent in this episode.
  • Based on the global shot of Zayto's broadcast signal, Pine Ridge is located in central California.
  • Solon reveals that she's a "polyglot" [2] meaning she is capable of speaking multiple languages, with the exception of French, which she admits she finds difficult.
  • This is the first Megazord formation seen with the first three chosen active Rangers.
  • This is the first episode that the Ranger Hotline is used.
  • This is the first episode where Zayto is seen wearing modern clothing to blend in on Earth. In the two previous episodes, he wears his Rafkon Knight Uniform.
