Use in Power Rangers[]
After the finale of Power Rangers Super Ninja Steel which adapted the second half of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger, Saban had subsequently sold the franchise to Hasbro, where they adapted the previously-skipped Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters as two seasons of Power Rangers Beast Morphers. LuPat was amongst many Sentai skipped over in favor for the then-currently airing Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, which premiered as two seasons of Power Rangers Dino Fury. Dino Fury show-runner Simon Bennett clarified that LuPat would be difficult to adapt properly due to the sensitivity and potential political controversy of police brutality, racial prejudice, and criminals that had occurred in the United States at the time.
In an unprecedented move, the cast of Dino Fury were announced to return in a 10-episode third season titled Power Rangers Cosmic Fury, which adapted Zords and monsters from Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. Despite LuPat having been skipped, Cosmic Fury adapted the two Ganglers Pekka Zeppelin and Experimental Body into Monster Miner 5 and Monster Miner 6 respectively. This was unplanned due to their suits being amongst many Toei had intended to clear out from their warehouses and given to Hasbro before its discarding.
To date, with the exception of the two monsters, Lupinranger VS Patranger currently remain un-adapted in any form of Power Rangers media.
Plot[]
- "The Lupin Collection, a set of mysterious treasures gathered by the legendary phantom thief Arsène Lupin, has been stolen by the Ganglers! The phantom thieves who fight to recover what they've lost. The police force who fight to protect world peace. Whose side are you on?!"
- ―Narrator
Gathered throughout his lifetime, the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin assembled a vast collection of dangerous items known as the "Lupin Collection". When this collection is stolen by interspace invaders known as the Gangler, two teams set out to retrieve it! Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger, who desires to live up to Lupin's name, aims at stealing back the collection from the Gangler. While Keisatsu Sentai Patranger, who hopes to uphold justice, aims to retrieve the collection and take down the Gangler! With two rival teams confronting each other for the same goal, just who will emerge victoriously?

- Beginning in 2020, it aired in South Korea as Power Rangers Lupin Force vs Patrol Force (파워레인저 루팡포스 VS 패트롤포스?).
- On October 21, 2019 [12][13], the Indonesian dub premiered under its Japanese name verbatim. The dub was made available on YouTube in the same year. While the broadcast episodes were censored, the episode, Number 11: I Will Continue Shooting, suffered the worst cuts; all of the human gender swap scenes were removed, essentially halving the episode length. The episode was left uncensored in the YouTube version.

Bandai Namco Games released Nari Kids Park: Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger as part of their Nari Kids Park range of games for the Nintendo Switch console. It was released on November 21st, 2018 in Japan for 4,800 yen. The concept for the game was that it was “digital transformation and play,” where players can “become,” “meet,” and “play together with” the heroes and heroines they see on TV.[14] The game features several mini-games where players can play as the core Lupinrangers and Patrangers; clips and pictures from the show; and 2-player co-op locally. It was released alongside Nari Kids Park game for Ultraman R/B and HUGtto! Pretty Cure. The game entered the sales charts at #36.[15]
Notes[]
- This Sentai Series has multiple notable firsts. Specifically:
- The first full-fledged Sentai that is not crossover team-up related to have two Sentai Teams coming to blows with one another. A permanent heroes vs. heroes team-up if you will.
- The first Sentai to feature a Sentai team without a Blue Ranger (Patrangers).
- The first Sentai to have more than one collectible gimmick/mecha System: the Dial Fighters for the Lupinranger, the Trigger Machines for the Patranger, and the X Trains used by Noël Takao.
- The first Sentai not to have an ending theme for the TV series.
- The first Sentai to have one person as two 6th Rangers for different teams at once.
- The first Sentai to feature no new villains who join the initial antagonists, either as generals or a separate force.
- The first Sentai to air entirely in the new timeslot introduced during Kyuranger and Kamen Rider Build.
- The Patrangers were the first of the two teams revealed.
- Lupinranger's name contains a reference to Arsène Lupin, a fictional gentleman thief and master of disguise created by French writer Maurice Leblanc, and also to Arsène Lupin III, a fictional character created by Monkey Punch and the protagonist of Lupin the Third manga series.
- This series was the final Sentai series, aside from Super Sentai Strongest Battle, to have a full televised run in the Heisei era; Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger is in a similar position to Choju Sentai Liveman in that it will run during the transition of reigning emperors.
- An interview with Gregory Mitchell by TokuNation revealed the 2018 Sentai was originally going to be flight-based. [16]
- This is the only Sentai TV series to use the “VS.” title outside VS Sentai crossover films. As well as being the first VS Sentai title to have the “VS.” part to be pronounced as the letters (ブイエス Bui Esu), instead of the usual Japanese translation word “対/Tai”.
- This is the last Super Sentai show to both premiere and end in February.
- This is the last Super Sentai so far to have a "-ranger" suffix.
- This is the first Super Sentai series not to first appear as a Pre Cameo in movie since Shinkenger.
