Thunderbolt deals damage and has a 10% chance of paralyzing the target. In Generations I and VI, Thunderbolt cannot paralyze Electric-type Pokémon.
In a Double Battle, Thunderbolt can target any Pokémon around the user. In a Triple Battle, Thunderbolt can only target a Pokémon that's adjacent to the user.
Prior to Generation VI, Thunderbolt has a base Power of 95.
In Pokémon Channel, Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on one occasion only, without being instructed by the player to use the move. On the first day, when the player tunes into Prof. Oak Report after doing a few tasks with their Pikachu, Professor Oak says that Pikachu has behaved remarkably. In response, Pikachu excitedly uses Thunderbolt, destroying the TV by mistake. Pikachu regrets using the move, and Oak is forced to send the player a temporary replacement, the black-and-white Retro TV.
The Pokémon Channel demo included on the Japanese Pokémon Colosseum Bonus Disc ends right after Pikachu uses Thunderbolt on the TV.
