Megamind is the titular main protagonist of DreamWorks' Megamind franchise. He was Metro Man's self-proclaimed nemesis until Metro Man went into retirement. When Tighten supersedes him as a greater evil, Megamind quits villainy to save Metro City, and subsequently becomes Metro City's new protector.
He was voiced by Will Ferrell in the movie and by Keith Ferguson in it's video game adaptations and sequel installments, Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate and Megamind Rules!.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
Megamind (2010)[]
- While he was a villain in the first act of the movie, he was actually shown to be quite honorable and less antagonistic than he seems. He does frequently abduct Roxanne as part of his schemes, but never comes close to hurting her directly. He also treats his best friend Minion with respect.
- His threats to Roxxane like feeding her to crocodiles were all bluffs and he never really wanted to go through with them.
- Even as a supervillain, Megamind mostly commits vandalism and although many people are scared of him, he is played for laughs.
- Even after taking over the city, he was never shown hurting anyone and all he did was cause mischief with his brainbots, proving that he was never really a villain out of malicious intent. This also proves that he is not a tyrant.
- Though Megamind intends to defeat Metro Man and is delighted by his success after numerous defeats, he eventually mourns Metro Man's presumed death.
- While dating Roxanne, he makes repairs to the city, returning the artwork he's stolen and cleaning the trash from the city.
- While arguing with Minion, Megamind openly states that he doesn't want to be the bad guy anymore and was sadden when he left him.
- He lets Roxanne leave peacefully instead of forcing her to love him and did not become envious and upset unlike Hal.
- When he learns that Hal began misusing his powers to steal things and to win Roxanne's heart, he is disgusted by Hal's behavior and calls him out for using his gift of power for his own personal gain.
- He goes to Roxanne for help, saying she's the smartest person he knows who can help him, despite her often getting in the way of his plans at times.
- He tries to convince Metro Man to come back and help save Metro City when he learns that he is still alive. When Metro Man rejects the idea, he is let down and willingly returns to the prison.
- After seeing Roxanne kidnapped and taken hostage by Tighten, he decided to take responsibility for his actions and breaks out of jail to rescue her.
- He made amends with Minion and felt remorse for how badly he had treated him and also for lying to Roxanne.
- He calls out Hal for having a petty excuse to villainy and for bringing his misery for himself.
- He saved Metro City from Tighten's destruction.
- After he defeats Tighten, Megamind feels remorse and makes amends to everyone for his past evil actions and now assumes the role of Metro City's new protector, using his Brain-Bots to repair all of the destruction he and Tighten have caused.
Megamind: The Button of Doom[]
- When he and Minion inadvertently reactivate Mega-Megamind, a prior creation with his personality purposed to defeat Metro City's resident hero, he eventually comes up with a plan to successfully destroy it before the robot causes too much damage.
- He catches Damien and his friends using the dehydration gun on their parents, and rehydrates them so the children can be punished for their misbehavior.
Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate and Megamind Rules![]
- He stops the Go Fish Gang from robbing an aquarium.
- He inspired Keiko Morita to be a superhero herself with his speech.
- He prevented the Doom Syndicate from launching Metro City into space.
- He invited Keiko Morita, his number one fan, to be his assistant.
- He exposed Dude Monkey for performing fake heroism just to get views.
- He prevented Nighty-Knight from invading the aquarium.
- He shows remorse for turning Mr. Donut into a villain and helps break him free from his amnesia so that they can defeat the Go Fish Gang.
- He defeats all of the sentient roaches in his heroic lair together with the help of Minion and Kaiko by sucking them with a vacuum and sending them into space.
- He tries to fix the problems in Metro City in Roxanne's body when they switched bodies for a day.
- He apologizes for touching Keiko's science project and tried to redeem it when it turned evil.
- He apologizes for undervaluing Keiko and atones for it with a cake on her birthday.
- He accepts Machiavillain’s challenge in trying to pass three heroic trials so that he can leave Metro City.
- He tries to destroy the transmitter so that his brainwashed Brain Bots can be disabled only for it to hit the comet instead.
- He tries to stop the comet from hitting Metro City only for Machiavillain to take credit over it by using Megamind’s statue against it.
- He forgive Keiko for stealing his binkie and said to her that telling her to leave is the last thing he will want.
- While he nearly killed Roxanne after being freed from the virtual world that he was trapped in by Machiavillain, this was because he was still thinking he is in a game, plus he immediately saved Roxanne and felt remorse for trying to kill her and even asks her if trying to kill her is the only bad thing he did.
- Even when Machiavillain turned everyone in Metro City into a villain, he refused to rejoin him and return to villainy.
- When Machiavillain brainwashed Roxanne and orders her to attack her he refuse to harm her even when she attacking him, as well as saying that he is willing to bet his life and everything to show that Roxanne will not kill him.
- He stopped Machiavillain for good and freed Roxanne from her brainwashing.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite shedding his villainy, he still retains his arrogance, jerkiness, and can occasionally do questionable things such as dehydrating Roxanne's doorman in order to get into her apartment, disguising himself as Bernard to date Roxanne and rudely mimicked a guy when he didn't buy his death ray. He can also still sometimes be a jerk to Chum (Minion), belittling him or treating him like a mere servant rather than his best friend.
- He can be mischievous at times, like when he showed joy in rehydrating the parents so Damien and his friends could get a far more severe punishment. Although they did deserve it, Megamind still took a small amount of sadism out of it.
- His blunders can cause problems, such as him blowing up a building without realizing people were still in there, or even endangering people in his chase from Tighten.
Trivia[]
- Previously, he was considered Inconsistently Admirable, but it was later decided that NPG was more fitting for him, as he eventually lost many of his villainous qualities.
- He is one of the three redeemed Dreamworks villain protagonists to be Near Pure Good, the other being Mr. Wolf and Diane Foxington.
- He is one of several Near Pure Good heroes who also has Villainous Benchmark page, others include Scorpion from Mortal Kombat Legends, Bucky Barnes from MCU, Starlight Glimmer, Piccolo, Meta Knight, Kyoko Sakura, and Ereshkigal from Fate/Grand Order.
