“ | Actually I do and right now, they really need me, so I really need this! | „ |
~ RJ, after Vincent told him that he didn't need the others and should only look out for himself. |
RJ is the main protagonist of Over the Hedge.
He is a con artist who gets himself into a food debt with Vincent, a ruthless grizzly bear who is willing to give him one week to get all the food back, or else he will find RJ and kill him. RJ then realizes he can't do this alone, so he finds a group of mostly naïve winter animals who don't have much knowledge of the world outside the woods, so RJ decides to manipulate them all into helping him with his goals using his charisma.
He was voiced by Bruce Willis.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite manipulating the animals for his goals, he did do his best to also create friendships with them and started to feel remorse for his actions when they treated him nicely.
- After he betrayed the animals and noticed them being taken away by Dwayne LaFontant, he sacrificed the food he got to pay his debt to Vincent in order to save them all, with it working by RJ causing the Verminator to pass out after giving him a shock.
- When all of the animals were cornered at the end of the film by Vincent, Gladys and Dwayne, RJ told Verne that he will distract Vincent so that he could get his family out of the hedge safely, but Verne then tells him not to do that because Vincent will kill him, but RJ just tells him that he is the one that Vincent wants and that Verne should take care of his family.
- Along with Verne, the two came up with a plan to defeat Vincent, Gladys and Dwayne, by using the Depelter Turbo on them and trapping them all in a cage, which worked.
- After seeing how much the group had grown attached to him, RJ decided to join their family and became an uncle to Penny and Lou's children, Bucky, Spike and Quillo.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite redeeming himself and feeling remorse for betraying and manipulating the animals, RJ still has a mischievous side to him, shown when he, along with Bucky, Spike and Quillo mess around with Hammy after the events of the film by pranking him and also filming it by throwing boomerang's at him, despite knowing Hammy was getting annoyed and paranoid by it.
- He is a bit of a deviant, as he recorded Verne taking a bath while he was naked, though then again, they're animals and don't wear clothes, making this moment ultimately played for mischief and thus making it a minor prevention.
Trivia[]
- RJ was originally on the IA wiki until it was found out that he showed remorse for his corrupting factors and subverted them in the end, making him proposed and approved here.
