“ | Oh, God, why are you doing this to me? Do you hear me?! Any kindness you take away. You're the one who gave me the dreams. You brought me the gift! Some gift! My dreams are lies. What have I done to deserve this?! | „ |
~ Joseph ranting to God |
Joseph (Yossef ben-Yaakov) is the titular main protagonist of the 2000 DreamWorks direct-to-video biblical animated feature film Joseph: King of Dreams.
Based on the bible figure of same name, Joseph is the youngest son of Jacob, and grandson of Isaac. He was born with the divine ability of interpreting dreams, either his or from others, and gathering information from them. Envious of his abilities, his brothers made a trap and sold him as a slave to Egypt, and then framing his death. He then has to live in Egypt and eventually gain a high position in the Pharaoh's eyes with his dream interpreting abilities.
He was voiced by Ben Affleck who also played Batman in the DC Extended Universe, while his singing voice was by David Campbell.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He was always a kind boy, which made his father proud of him.
- Unlike some interpretations of his original counterpart, he was never arrogant about his dream powers and wanted to work alongside his brothers, which only makes their jealousy and action of selling him into slavery even more unjustified than it already was.
- He prevented Potiphar from ending up in a hustle by a dishonest man.
- He got over his own anger on God while in jail and managed to survive in there patiently.
- He managed to interpret the Pharaoh's dreams regarding the incoming famine on Egypt.
- He helped save food during the seven good years by being the right hand man and counsellor to the Pharaoh.
- He fell in love and married Asenath, who helped him ensure all Egyptians had good lives through the famine.
- He eventually allowed his family to come in Egypt and live with him and his wife.
- He is heartbroken to hear of his mother's death, despite not having seen her for many years.
- He stands out from Moses for being just as admirable as him by saving Egypt, as well as having less resources since Moses's miracles have more direct influence than Joseph's dreams.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- When he saw his brothers again, he was very bitter to them which, while understandable, was taken too far when he imprisoned Simeon until his brothers took Benjamin to him to prove his existence, and framed Benjamin for having stolen from him and pretending to sentence him to death, just to see how his brothers would react. He only forgave them when they are shown to be willing to be taken in Benjamin's place, which makes him see they are, indeed, better than before. While he forgave them, and his spitefulness is justified, he still took it too far and didn't feel remorse.
Trivia[]
