Elite Goombule is a variant of Goombule and, by extension, a Goomba which appears an enemy in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. They appear as a boss in the Trash Pit.
Physical description[]
Elite Goombules resemble a palette swap of their counterpart, with a blue body and a lime green yolk-like orb at their heart, but a protective black shell appears on their head.
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story[]
Mario and Luigi only encountered two Elite Goombules during their journey, after obtaining all ten Attack Pieces in the Trash Pit. An Elite Goombule's helmet-like shell protects it from any jump and hammer attacks, and it can therefore only take damage from a Green Shell attack.
An Elite Goombule is an Level 2 enemy has 16 hit points with an attack power of 15, a defense of 13 (999 against jumps and hammers), a defense of 13, and a speed of 12, taking normal damage from fire and dropping 2 coins. When slain, it may drop a Mushroom or Syrup Jar (1/4 and 3/10 chance, respectively).
Behind the Scenes[]
As with regular Goombules, Elite Goombules are based on cells.
Nomenclature[]
In Japanese, the Elite Goombules have the name Katabō, from a pun on katai ("hard"; written 硬い) and Saibō ("cell"; written 細胞). Their Spanish name, Aceroomba, comes from acero ("steel") and English "Goomba." Italian calls them Goómbuli Eletti ("Elite Goombules" (Goómbulo means "Goombule," being based on Glóbulo ("globule")); singular Goómbulo Eletto). In French, their name is Goomblindé, of unknown origin. German translates their name as Abwehrzell-Gumba, meaning "Defense Cell Goomba." In Korean, they are called "Armed Goombules" (Mujang Sepoba, written 무장세포바; Mujang means "armed"), despite not carrying any weapons or having arms.
