Detective John McClane is the protagonist of the Die Hard film series. McClane is featured as an Operator of the NATO faction in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Warzone, as well as a playable character in Call of Duty: Mobile. McClane was released on May 20th, 2021 during Season Three of content for Black Ops Cold War and Season 3: Tokyo Escape of Call of Duty: Mobile as part of the "Die Hard Operator Bundle" which was available between May 20th and June 19th, 2021. In Black Ops Cold War and Warzone, the bundle returned during Season Six between October 11th and November 10th, 2021.

The "Hidden Gun" Finishing Move, included in the Die Hard Operator Bundle, is a reference to a scene in Die Hard, in which McClane pulls out a concealed pistol taped behind his back to wound the film's antagonist, Hans Gruber.
McClane has a unique pose when walking in the menu screen.
