"Origin unknown. Found by the Jackals, alone in an abandoned village in the Congo (DRC). Killed three Jackals before Zane made contact and brokered a deal. Services in exchange for wire transfer to anonymous off-shore account."
Not much is known about the early life of Grinch, however his eastern bantu accent suggests he received a Western education. Grinch appeared to be educated in both Coalition and Allegiance battle doctrines combined with self-taught survivalism.[1]
In 2017, Grinch was found by a Jackals patrol, lead by Commander Viktor "Zane" Metiko, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Three members of the Jackals were killed by improvised traps and sniper fire. Zane negotiated a cease-fire and contracted Grinch for the Jackals. Coalition intel later revealed payments from known Jackals shell companies to an anonymous off-shore account in the Cayman Islands.[1]
In March 2020, Al-Qatala's new leader Khaled Al-Asad launched a full-scale assault against Verdansk in Kastovia. Operators from Coalition and Allegiance were deployed to Verdansk to stop Al-Qatala as part of the Armistice initiative.
Prior to the release of Modern Warfare, Grinch was intended to have a ghillie suit on his default skin. This is reflected in an early image in the beta version of the Operator selection menu.
In Grinch's intro video, he wears this ghillie suit.
All of Grinch's Finishing Move preview icons show him with the ghillie suit.
Grinch's Forest Spirit skin bears the emblem of Zakhaev Arms on his shorts, despite not being affiliated with the faction.
When Raines revives Grinch, he jokingly calls him "Green Man" which is a reference to the Dr. Seuss cartoon character, The Grinch.
In some lines of dialogue, Grinch is noted to hear voices in his head.
With Grinch selected, he will remark "We need eyes in the sky" when requesting for a UAV. This line is a reference to the 2015 war-thriller film Eye in the Sky.
Grinch is 1 of 2 characters in Modern Warfare that lists their blood type as "Unknown" in their biography. He shares this trait with Simon "Ghost" Riley.
