A former Rangers Training Battalion instructor and current squad leader, Isa "Byline" Juarez started her military career off in journalism. A native of Maywood, CA and daughter of Oaxacan immigrants, Isa started writing for her school paper because she wanted something to boost her college transcript. But Isa was never good at doing things halfway - if she was in, she was all in, and journalism became her passion. She went on to join the ROTC, eager to embrace the world of military journalism while earning her tuition. She embraced the military routine with the same dedication she'd shown to journalism, and quickly became a star student. Before Isa graduated, news broke of the first women to successfully make it through Ranger training. As Isa covered the story, she felt a connection to the single-minded resolve of these women. Seeing that same resolve in herself, she set her sights on the same goal and threw herself fully into training. She passed her second time through Ranger School - failure would never deter her from achieving her goals.
Isa stayed with the Rangers after earning her tab as part of the 4th RTB, guiding others through the same course. She developed a reputation as a straight forward instructor who took great pride in raising others up, taking special interest in helping other women succeed. After a few years, looking for a fresh challenge, Isa transferred to an infantry unit deployed throughout Southeast Asia and the Middle East as a squad leader. The unit relies on guidance and leadership from "Byline", as well as her journalistic talent for asking the right questions.
