"Ateret Dahan was never supposed to go into the military - she was supposed to marry young and start on a family. That was the plan that her strict religious family laid out for her, following in the footsteps of her mother and sisters. But Ateret began to question the plan after her new husband died in a car accident, leaving her widowed before she turned 20. In the middle of this crisis of faith and identity, Ateret joined the IDF - the first in her family to serve, in spite of their religious exemption. Within their ranks, Ateret found community in the other young women serving beside her, women with goals and dreams of their own, women who inspired her to find and follow her own passions. It wasn't until she was running across the battlefield and dodging a hailstorm of bullets to drag her fallen comrades back to safety and tend to their wounds that she realized what that passion was combat medicine. Ateret "Doc" Dahan serves with Special Tactics Rescue Unit, getting dozens of soldiers the medical care they need both in the field and as they fly back to safety. Esteemed for her courage during battle and dedication to saving lives; "Doc" is a symbol of hope for wounded and weary soldiers, a reassuring presence that spurs them forward."
