- This article is about the character from the Classic Dimension. For other uses, see Mighty Eagle (disambiguation).
- "Once upon a time I was the mightiest warrior of the Flock, but that was a very, very long time ago..."
- — The Mighty Eagle, The World of Angry Birds Official Guide[4]
The Mighty Eagle, also known as just Mighty,[1] is a character that appears in the Angry Birds series. He is a giant eagle and a former member of the Angry Birds, characterized by his inmense size and strength. He was introduced in the v1.5.0 update of the iOS version of the original Angry Birds (which also added the Ham 'Em High chapter). In the earliest games in the series, the Mighty Eagle is a premium feature that is summoned by launching a sardine, his favorite snack, getting him to cause overwhelming destruction in the level.
Once the mightiest warrior of the Angry Birds, the Mighty Eagle was overwhelmed with guilt and shame after failing to foil one of the pigs' plots to steal the eggs, and has since retreated into solitude in a cave at the Pumpkin Plateau. Since then, he has rarely interacted with the Angry Birds, but has formed a close bond with the Blues, who frequently visit him to listen to his war stories. Although he wishes to return to the flock to redeem himself, his fear of rejection has kept him away, causing him to become grumpy over time and get angry at anything that disturbs his peace and quiet.
Appearance
The Mighty Eagle is an enormous eagle, being far larger than the other birds combined, with a large yellow beak ending with a hooked tip. His crest and tail each consist of three long, black feathers with squarish ends. Most of his body is covered in white feathers, except the bottom half which has brown feathers instead. His eyes are black and have purple bags underneath them and thick eyebrows above them.
His finalized sketch depicted him wearing a captain's hat and a leather jacket.
In Angry Birds Epic and Angry Birds Fight!, the Mighty Eagle received a slight redesign. His brown feathers are now mahogany, his thick eyebrows are smaller, and his eye bags are magenta.
Personality
- "Matilda is always telling me to let go of the past, to forgive myself for my mistakes... I'm sorry, I just don't want to talk about them."
- — The Mighty Eagle, The World of Angry Birds Official Guide[4]
The Mighty Eagle is a mysterious character, deeply shaped by his past experiences. Once a formidable force against the pigs, his failure to protect the eggs led to a profound sense of guilt and shame.[1][4][5] This drove him to retreat into self-imposed exile in a cave, where he lives in solitude. Over time, the Mighty Eagle has become grumpy and short-tempered, lashing out at any intruders who disturb his peace.[1] He spends his time resting or listening to broken records in his gramophone.[4][3]
Despite his gruff exterior, the Mighty Eagle harbors a deep nostalgia for his glory days, frequently reminiscing about his past victories and sharing war stories with the Blues, his only regular visitors.[4] Due to his long exile, he has developed an inferiority complex and believes the other birds see him as useless.[1] He wishes to return to action and redeem himself, but his inability to let go of his mistakes keeps him away.[4][1]
Game appearances
Angry Birds
In the original Angry Birds, and most of its re-releases, the Mighty Eagle is a premium feature that was introduced in v1.5.0 for iOS in December 2010, and in v1.6.3 for Android in August 2012.[6] He essentially works as a way to easily skip hard levels. He can only be accessed through an in-app purchase that costs $4.99 and the approximate amount in other currencies,[6] although the player can also try three free levels with him. However, in Rovio Classics: Angry Birds, he is available from the beginning.[7][8]
In gameplay, once bought, the Mighty Eagle can be used in any level by pressing the eagle eye icon at the top left of the screen at any point. Doing so will make all of the birds in the level disappear, replacing them with a single can of sardines. When this can is launched and hits an obstacle, the Mighty Eagle will swoop down from the top left side of the screen to grab the can, then collide with the ground and fly to the top right. In his trajectory, the Mighty Eagle destroys virtually anything he touches. Upon hitting the ground, he also causes the level to shake, breaking all joints in the structures for even more damage and causing the pigs to be slightly launched into the air; any pigs that do survive automatically pop shortly afterwards.
It is worth noting that the Mighty Eagle can only be used once per hour on levels that have not yet been beaten, but can be used indefinitely on completed levels.[6] When used, the Mighty Eagle replaces the traditional star-based scoring system with a "destruction gauge",[9][6] which fills as more damage is caused by the Mighty Eagle and any birds previously used; achieving 100% destruction results in "Total Destruction" and yields the player with a feather on the given level. In most levels, Total Destruction is only possible by first using the standard birds to cause as much damage as possible and then summoning the Mighty Eagle for the final attack.[6] Additionally, in most recent versions of the original game, the Mighty Eagle cannot be used in Daily Challenges or the Mighty League.
Angry Birds Seasons
In Angry Birds Seasons, the Mighty Eagle is once again a premium feature, introduced on August 22, 2011, in iOS versions, and March 13, 2013, in Android ones.[6] He works the same as in the original Angry Birds with no noticeable differences. However, in Year of the Dragon and Ham Dunk, he is replaced by the Mighty Dragon and Mighty Basketball respectively, both of whom work similarly as he does. Additionally, he cannot be used in the Pig Challenge.
Angry Birds Rio
In Angry Birds Rio, the Mighty Eagle is once again a premium feature that was introduced on October 27, 2011, in iOS versions and December 18, 2012, in Android ones.[6] In gameplay, he works exactly the same as in previous games, but can be used for free in Playground. Additionally, if the player restarts a lot of times in one level, they are offered the Mighty Eagle for free, although he can only be used once.
Angry Birds Chrome
In Angry Birds Chrome, the Mighty Eagle returned once again as a purchasable feature, introduced on December 1, 2011.[6] He works the same way as in the other games, but can be used for free in the first 21 levels of Poached Eggs.
Angry Birds Trilogy
In Angry Birds Trilogy, the Mighty Eagle makes an appearance, being usable in any level. Unlike other games, he is available for free and can be summoned once the player resets the level three times. Like most birds, he also gets profiles of his own detailing his personality.
Angry Birds Friends
In earlier versions of Angry Birds Friends, the Mighty Eagle appeared purchasable in the shop but with Bird Coins, which only gave a determined number of sardines. He worked the same way but could not be used in tournaments. He was removed when the Facebook version was changed to be more like the Windows 10 version in January 2020. He was released at launch along with the actual game.[6]
Angry Birds Fuji TV
In Angry Birds Fuji TV, the Mighty Eagle appeared again, but this time could be used for free, and was introduced at launch.[6]
Bad Piggies
In Bad Piggies, the Mighty Eagle makes a cameo, with one of the variants of the Golden Pig Statue bearing his likeness.
Angry Birds Go!
In the 1.0.0 version of Angry Birds Go!, the Mighty Eagle made a cameo as a statue in the Jenga course, as well as on the Halloween loading screen, driving a kart which is not usually accessible.
Angry Birds Epic
In Angry Birds Epic, the Mighty Eagle can be summoned with the "Mighty Eagle's Favorite Dish", sardines that can be obtained by purchasing them and that get him to instantly defeat all opponents on the screen. The Mighty Eagle also appears in his dojo, in which he can increase the Mastery of certain classes.
Angry Birds Fight!
In Angry Birds Fight!, the Mighty Eagle appeared in the Prize Slot and Mighty Quest Event.
Angry Birds 2
- Main article: Mighty Eagle (spell)
In Angry Birds 2, the Mighty Eagle appears as a spell purchased with gems, working similarly to previous games. He also appears in the Mighty Eagle's Bootcamp.
Angry Birds Transformers

Angry Birds Reloaded
In Angry Birds Reloaded, the Mighty Eagle was introduced in v1.9.0 on March 17, 2022, working the same as in the original games.
Animated Appearances
Angry Birds & the Mighty Eagle
After the Eggs were stolen by the pigs and were locked in an impenetrable fortress, both the Blue and Yellow birds chose the Red bird to bring the sardine to Mighty Eagle's cave. After Red offered the sardine to the Mighty Eagle, he destroyed the structure with one fell swoop.
Ham'o'ween
When The Blues were going Trick-Or-Treating, they went to Mighty Eagle's cave, where the Mighty Eagle gave them a candy.
Book Appearances
Angry Birds: Captain Badburger
While never appearing physically, Angry Birds: Captain Badburger features Matilda mentioning Mighty Eagle while seeing the Saucy Pickle and Harry Marry pass by Piggy Island, saying that he told stories of ghastly things pirates get up too on the open sea. This statement ends up being prophetic, as Captain Badburger and his crew end up attacking the Flock later in the book.
Angry Birds: The Attack of The Monster
Mighty Eagle never appears in the book's main story. However, he has a character description in the book.
Powers and abilities
True to his name, the Mighty Eagle is an extremely powerful warrior,[3] boasting enough strength to easily destroy virtually any material if summoned. Additionally, due to his experience, he is very wise and knowledgeable of history and pig weaknesses.[1]
Transformations
Space Eagle
- Main article: Space Eagle
By passing through an extraterrestrial wormhole of some kind, the Mighty Eagle can turn into the Space Eagle.[10] In this state, he somewhat resembles a raven or crow with its purple plumage. It also has two plume feathers on top of his head. The Space Eagle's beak appears to be strongly curved, but that's to be expected. Space Eagle appears much larger than Earth-going Mighty Eagle, but his power remains the same though it's a little weaker. This transformation only appeared in Angry Birds Space.
Alpha Trion
- Main article: Alpha Trion
By being exposed to the radiation of an extraterrestrial device, the Mighty Eagle can turn into Alpha Trion. In this state, he gains a robotical look with a helmet. As an Autobird, he can change his form to turn into a jet or a person. He uses a Grimlock-esque weapon able to drag any block in a random direction and break almost anything with ease. Plus, in vehicle mode, he automatically causes earthquakes. This transformation only appeared in Angry Birds Transformers.
Relationships
The Flock
Due to his solitude, the Mighty Eagle very rarely interacts with the other Angry Birds[5] and prefers to keep his distance from them, as they disturb his peace and quiet.[4] However, he believes they see him as useless and wishes to join them in their fight against the pigs.[1] Sometimes, Red and Matilda try to convince him to return to the flock but with limited success.[5] Out of all of the birds, the Mighty Eagle can only stand the Blues, as their energy make him feel young again. He allows them to visit him, tells them his tales of the past in exchange for a can of sardines, and even plays with them from time to time.[1][5][3][4] Due to this close bond, the Blues act as mediators between him and the other birds and are the ones who (ocassionally) turn to him when they need help.[1]

Commonwealth Plush toys
On December 17, 2011, the Mighty Eagle was made into a plush toy and could be bought for $100. It can be found online, mostly on the Angry Birds Store. It is the most expensive Angry Birds plush. This plush could also be won if someone collected 280 Easter Eggs and had a chance of winning it in the Angry Birds Friends Easter Hunt, along with some backpack plushies. He would later be re-released in 2021 by Might mojo Toys in a smaller size variant.
Other versions of Mighty Eagle such as from The Angry Birds Movie would be produced by Commonwealth.

Trivia
- The Mighty Eagle usually appears as a silhouette in the games; with the only times this isn't true being the Power-Up shop in Angry Birds Classic, Mighty Eagle's Bootcamp in Angry Birds 2 and in the entirety of Angry Birds Epic.
- Mighty has visited Santa's workshop according to the Christmas comic. In the comic we see the purple bags around his eyes aren't there, indicating he was much younger when he visited.
- The Blues in the comics have mentioned Mighty having multiple places of residence, of "rejuvenation spots". The primary appears to be high atop a cliff, as depicted in Ham'o'ween and the comics.
- In the Year of the Dragon animation descriptions and shop descriptions, it is said that the Mighty Eagle transformed into the Mighty Dragon, but in the comic, it is said the Mighty Eagle was an old friend of the Mighty Dragon and the Mighty Dragon was accepted to look after his rejuvenation spot while the Mighty Eagle was gone.
- In 2011, Rovio released a software development kit for mobile game developers to implement the Mighty Eagle into their games, with the first game being the iOS remake of Death Rally.[11][12]
- In the Trilogy version, if you get 100 percent for a level, then the feather you receive will be golden.
- Also in the said game and Angry Birds Rio, Mighty uses Terence's Corpse sounds when he hits the ground.
- Mighty Eagle is the only bird of the main series who has nostrils. However, the nostrils are absent in his movie design.
- In the latest versions of the games, the Mighty Eagle makes noises of Terence when hitting the ground.
- His sound effect when he was summoned was used in Gundam: Build Fighters TRY when the Try Burning Gundam uses any of its abilities.[citation needed]
- Before Mighty Eagle was added to Angry Birds Classic in version 1.5.0, there was an early version of Mighty Eagle that was found in versions 1.4.0-1.4.1 that was going to work a lot differently. The early version shows that Mighty Eagle was originally going to fall straight down onto wherever the bait initially lands, whereas the finalized version has Mighty Eagle swoop in.[citation needed]
