Girl Bird[2][3] is a minor character who appears in the Angry Birds series. She is a red bird similar in appearance to Red, whom she serves as a love interest towards, save for her blush spots and bow. She made her first appearance in Angry Birds Seasons, for which she was created for the Hogs and Kisses update, alongside the similar Female White Bird. Since then, Girl Bird has made very sporadic appearances in the series, most notably in various educational books.
Appearance[]
Girl Bird has a near-identical general design as Red; she is a spherical limbless bird covered in red feathers, with a tuft of two red feathers, three black feathers that make up her tail, and a peach-colored chest. Also similar to Red are her two large black eyebrows; however, they are slightly smaller than Red's eyebrows, as is her beak. Furthermore, Girl Bird has a pair of eyelashes and large blush spots on each of her cheeks.
For attire, in her most notable physical difference from Red, Girl Bird wears a large bow on the top of her head. In most cases, this bow is yellow in color. However, while witnessing a caterpillar metamorphosis, Girl Bird wore a pink bow instead.
Personality[]
Due to the nature of her appearances, Girl Bird's personality has been elaborated on very little. Her appearances suggest her to be more laid-back in nature, with her eyelids almost always being drooped over the top half of her eyes. She's also not very aggressive, as she has never seen attacking a pig on-screen. With that said, she is not necessarily against violence either, as after the pigs were defeated at the end of the Hogs and Kisses, she took no issue with the freshly-thrashed Cupid Pig hanging by the string of a balloon.
Girl Bird is also inept or at least unknowledgeable about the outdoors, as simple concepts such as rainbows and metamorphosis confuse and amaze her.[1][4] Despite this lack of knowledge of nature, she still cares for it greatly, even trying to get a caterpillar to stop eating a flower at one point.[1]

Angry Birds Seasons[]

In Angry Birds Seasons, Girl Bird appears in the portrait that can be viewed upon completing Hogs and Kisses 1-15. In the portrait, she can be seen with Red, taking care of the boy and girl eggs with him. Girl Bird can also be seen in the app icon for the 1.2.0 update, which included the Hogs and Kisses episode, replacing Red who is seen in most of Angry Birds Seasons' other icons.
Girl Bird does not make an appearance in the Chinese version of Angry Birds Seasons, due to the release's omission of Hogs and Kisses. In addition, whether or not Girl Bird is still canon to the plot of Hogs and Kisses could be considered in doubt, as the plot given for the episode in The World of Angry Birds Official Guide makes no mention of her.
Angry Birds Friends[]

In the Facebook version of Angry Birds Friends, Girl Bird made a minor appearance in the game's Bird-O-Matic mode. Here, she was one of the characters the player could use as a base for their avatar, being one of the only bases that was free from the start without needing to be purchased using Bird Coins or, initially, real money. This was also the only time Girl Bird, in her original form, has been seen without her bow, since the player is able to equip her with a variety of accessories instead.
Due to them not featuring the Bird-O-Matic, the mobile and Windows Store versions of Angry Birds Friends never included Girl Bird; in addition, with the mode's removal from the Facebook version as of June 10, 2020,[5] Girl Bird no longer appears in any version of the game.

Angry Birds: What a Surprise![]
One day, Girl Bird comes across a caterpillar, and proceeds to observe its behaviors and actions, the first of which being consuming a sunflower; this strikes fear into Girl Bird, seemingly unaware that flowers are a regular part of a caterpillar's diet. Once the caterpillar eats all of the sunflower's petals, it begins metamorphosing, frightening Girl Bird to the point she hides behind a tree, unable to bare the sight, though she is seemingly able to get over her discomfort by the time the caterpillar finishes making its cocoon, simply showing confusion instead. Her mood would then brighten as she witnesses the now-mature butterfly emerge from the cocoon.
Angry Birds: Where is it?[]
On a seemingly sunny day, Girl Bird notices a large gray cloud drifting in front of the sun, before said cloud begins precipitating. Now caught in a heavy rainstorm, she notes that the rain droplets appear below the storm cloud, and finds a caterpillar hiding under a leaf as a form of shelter. Once the rain stops, Girl Bird spots a resulting nearby rainbow, commenting on the colors at the top and bottom of said rainbow, red and violet. She would then proceed to meet with Red by a tree to play with him.
Angry Birds: Sing the ABCs[]
Girl Bird decides to sing "The ABC Song", selecting a letter on each verse that starts the names of various subjects she comes across, such as a butterfly and watermelon. On the last verse, Girl Bird sings for various other members of the Flock to join her the next occasion she recites the song, in her first and only interaction with any character besides Red in the franchise.
Angry Birds: Red's New Friend[]

Following the inevitable lack of success he had in trying to befriend a rubber duck, Red spots Girl Bird hiding from behind a nearby coconut tree. Upon emerging from her hiding, she soon agrees to the infatuated Red's request to become friends.

Girl Bird has a very close bond with Red, and it appears that the two are romantically involved. Her first encounter with the flock leader occurred while he was looking for a new friend, following a rejection from a rubber duck toy; upon meeting her, Red would immediately be smitten by her and the two became friends.[6] By the Candy Floss Fields incident, the two had become romantic partners, snuggling and looking after two eggs together. They are also shown as a couple in various Valentine's Day cards that were available on Angry Birds Seasons' Facebook page, which call the two "love birds".

Legacy[]
Girl Bird, likened by former Rovio Entertainment Art Director for Marketing Kati Nohynek to Ms. Pac-Man in terms of design, was initially created solely for promotional purposes,[7] thus explaining her lack of major roles. With the exception of educational books, she would eventually be phased out of the series entirely by Stella.[7] Nevertheless, Girl Bird would later gain a cult following among fans, who would nickname the character "Ruby", a name which would later be used by Rovio themselves in a YouTube community post.[8] In 2024, Mexican artist KrimaDraws would reimagine the character as Red's sister, sporting the fan-made name and a brand new design and backstory; this iteration would later be officially recognized by Rovio and be incorporated into Angry Birds Friends.[9] However, due to controversy regarding the overhaul in her and Red's relationship, KrimaDraws would later announce the characters would become separate.[10] Due to this change, it seems unlikely that Girl Bird will make any future appearances in the Angry Birds series.

- In the icon for the 1.2.0 update of Angry Birds Seasons Free, Girl Bird's bow is colored cyan, rather than yellow. This was likely done to create more contrast with the yellow "Free" text on the icon.
