Poached Eggs is the first episode of the original Angry Birds. It tells of the earliest known conflict between the Angry Birds and the Piggy kingdom over the former's eggs. The chapter is divided into three parts, called "themes", each with 21 levels, totalling 63 levels. The first theme is set in the Cobalt Plateaus, while the other two are in the Great Cliffs.

As the very first overall chapter of the entire Angry Birds series, Poached Eggs remains one of the most iconic episodes of the franchise. It established the general gameplay of the series, and introduced the basic characters and enemies of the games. Many levels, particularly the ones from the first theme, have been reused, parodied, and homaged at later points of the series. Being where the episode begins, the Cobalt Plateaus have also been a recurrent location in Angry Birds, appearing in most games, shows, and comics. Poached Eggs was followed by Mighty Hoax in February 2010.

Storyline[]

One day, in the Cobalt Plateaus, the Angry Birds are looking after the eggs. In the meantime, King Pig and some pigs are eating some grass nearby. Smooth Cheeks, tired of the grass, notices the eggs and orders his minions to go steal them. The birds are distracted by a mosquito that touched the eggs, and give chase to it until they either lose it or kill it. This gives a Minion Pig enough time to snatch the nest and take the eggs to King Pig, but it does not take long for the flock to learn of the theft.^[1][2]

Enraged, the Angry Birds give chase to the pigs, but King Pig's army has built several fortresses that are in their way. Regardless, the birds are able to destroy each of these strongholds and chase the pigs into the Great Cliffs, where they defeat the tyrannical monarch and get back the eggs while an injured King Pig looks nearby.^[2]

Angry Birds Friends[]

Poached Eggs was included in Angry Birds Friends' web version. It was later removed along with all other episodes when the web version of the game was redesigned to be more like the mobile and Windows 10 versions in early 2020, being replaced with the Piggy Tower mode.

Angry Birds Reloaded[]

Main article: Hot Pursuit The chapter returns in Angry Birds Reloaded in the form of Hot Pursuit. Due to the game having chapters being ordered by 15 levels each in 3 pages, the number of levels had to be decreased by almost a fourth of its original amount, but some of the levels that didn't appear in Hot Pursuit later appeared in When Birds Fly, Wrecks & The City, Pigs In A Banquet, and Off The Menu. The order of levels were also scrambled around.

Notice that in the old version of Cutscene 1, Chuck's design in the Cutscene has a different design that has never been used. The first cutscene as it now appears in Angry Birds Classic. Trivia[]

• Before the episode colors were removed in version 2.1.0 (2.0.0 for the Windows and MacOS release), the color of Poached Eggs' episode card was cyan.
• In Angry Birds Trilogy, the pigs are seen using a magnifying glass to cook the eggs.
• This is the only episode in the original game where the Bad Piggies do not use any special technique to capture the eggs (e.g. in Danger Above, the pigs use balloons to capture the eggs).
• In the current final cutscene, the eggs' size is larger compared to the birds, larger than King Pig.
• Before the world button was removed in 1.3.2, the level select featured the following images:
  • Red, Jay, and Chuck with 3 Minion Pigs
  • Red, Bomb, and Chuck with 2 Corporal Pigs and a Minion Pig
  • Bomb, Jay, and Matilda with King Pig and Foreman Pig
  • Before version 1.2.0, the game had a location view that would appear when you enter the game. It features the following pigs:

• In the old version of the opening cutscene, Chuck had a prototype design that was only ever used again in the Angry Birds Trilogy classic 3ds/PSvita loading screens. Eventually, in version 2.0.0, the opening cutscene was modified to have the characters' standard designs, including Chuck's design.
  • In specifically 1.0.0, both middle cutscenes' castles were in the color of the next theme, including the ground next to them.
• 45 levels appear in Hot Pursuit, 13 appear in When Birds Fly, 2 appear in Wrecks & The City, 2 appear in Pigs In A Banquet, and 1 appears in Off The Menu. Therefore, all of the Poached Eggs levels appear in Angry Birds Reloaded.
